  1. current system: Alpine HU, Clarion EQS746, Alpine Type R 12" in a custom ported box being powered by a Kicker 750.1, Kicker 350.4 powering Alpine and Polk Speakers, Rockford digital cap 1 farad, big 3 done in 4 gauge, stock battery (Duralast -_-), and stock alt. (70 amps).

at idle my volts sit at 14.8 and for some reason when i start driving it goes down to 14.5-14.6(before big 3 idle was @ 14.4-14.6). i do get voltage drops down to 11 volts on some songs/full tilt, but i think the big 3 helped out quiet a bit. before the big 3 the volts were worse. every time i see the volts go below 12 volts i back down on the sub volume on my EQ and it sounds pleasing to me.

i was planning to upgrade to a single 15" or 2 12s but i might be in the same situation due do my electrical system. dont get me wrong IMO this 12" is pretty loud for one 12" ;]. so should i invest in a batteries and a H/O alt.? id appreciate it if you can be specific on what brand of batts and alt. thank you for your time people.

  2. IMO the box is the most important factor in deciding how loud a sub will be. Based on my own trial and error. I went from one ported box hitting 138db to my fourh box hitting 148.8. All with the same amp/sub combo. Cant emphasis enough, test, test, and more testing. An experienced person who know what their doing will almost always have the louder system versus a beginner. :)

oh yeah i know that. i know someone that specializes in making custom boxes. i know what you mean by testing and testing. i had a type-r 12, it been through 4 boxes. it went from ok loud to really loud :]! i just want other people's opinion. i cant buy all the subs at once. people are so helpful on here <3. thanks.

  3. Ground your RCA output at the deck (more than likely this is what it is, happens all the time)

Try a different pair of RCAs

Make sure all grounds are sanded down to bare metal

my deck and eq are not grounded on the car's chassis, the ground wire from deck and eq is wired up with my car's ground wire harness. i used a crimped connector. you follow me? i couldnt find an area to ground both devices.

  4. Move any RCA cables away from the power wires. Re ground (sand down paints and make a good connection) bad quality RCA's can sometimes cause this noise if they arent insulated good. like hone audio rca cables are a no go in cars. usually not enough insulation. (rubbers etc)

im thinking it may be the RCA's. they are rockford fosgate punch, but they are really old. i hope its the RCA's.

  5. Single ought. 1/0 or 0/1. Gotta do big wire. That's why it's called the BIG three. lol. The bigger the wire the less resistance. The more power is delivered to the amp from the power wire. And the more power returned to the battery through the bigger wire on the grounds from the big three.

okay but having a thicker between the alt and the bat+, wouldnt it drain the crap out of my alt?

  6. car: 1993 camry

system: kicker zx750.1 powering a 12" alpine type r, kicker zx350.4, rockford digital 1 farad cap, and using 4 and 8 gauge wires. stock electrical, 70/80 amp alt and a duralast battery >.<

i do get dimming and voltage drops, that is if i put the gain up a bit. the more i back down the gain the lesser i get dimming, regardless i still get the same results.

i would like to know what would be my best move? save money for a H/O alt? new battery? big 3 first?

    thanks alot people. peace.
