  1. whenever i accelerate i hear a humming noise coming from my speakers inside the car. and when the car is on i hear hissing noises coming from the speakers, very annoying. my headunit and EQ are not grounded to the car's chassis. it is wired up with the cars wireharness, i used a crimp wire connector. and rca's and power wires are away from each other. amps grounds are good. i tried a ground loop isolator, that didnt work.

can it be cheap RCA's? well im not sure if they are cheap, they are rockford but they are the very old. i dont even know if they sell them no more. but the RCA's are purple.

  2. I actually haven't done my big 3 yet. It got too cold out before I got around to it. I am, however, using the 1/0 from the battery to my Sundown amp.

Also, my battery is under my rear seat so my big 3 is a bit more involved. Well, the run from the alt + to the battery is just longer.

And, yes, I am getting a pretty good amount of dimming. I am running my amp at 1 ohm and used a DMM to set the gains to around 1k watts, but don't know how much current I am actually pulling. I get voltage drop down to about 12.1 volts on certain songs at full tilt, but on most stuff and at normal volume I stay above 14 volts.

how many amps is your alt?

  3. If you're gonna do it you might as well use 1/0.

I got mine from weldingsupply.com and it was pretty cheap. I think their 1/0 is a tad smaller than Knukoncepts, etc but it was good enough for me.

oh i see. so you did the big 3 and you have stock electrical? how is that working for you? any dimming? voltage drops? thanks.

  4. hello. every time i start my car my exhaust leaks some kind of black liquid. a couple of months ago a mechanic took out this "honey comb looking " piece of metal and replaced it with a small pipe. he replaced it because it had a crack in it and it was making this loud noise. i dont think he welded it good. but when my car runs it stops leaking. the only time it leaks is when i havnt drove for a few days and it also makes this hunming noise. i was thinking of bringing it back if he can weld it. what should i do? also can that be a reason im loosing gas?

  5. If you still get dimming/voltage drops, then you're going to have to look into investing in a larger battery and a HO alternator. Chances are you wont have to because your amp is under 1000w. Hopefully your stock electrical system can take a toll from that 750w amp, but you'll never know until you install it.

    big 3 = 0 guage or 4 gauge?

  6. It NEVER hurts to install the big 3, as long as the installation is done proper. If your lights dont dim or your voltage doesnt drop then it shouldnt be a problem, but installing would be good if you ever plan on beefing up your system one day by adding another SX or something. And running your speaker at 750rms is just fine, you can wire your speaker down to 2 or 8 ohms. Here's the wiring diagram to help you out

so if i install the big 3 their might be a chance i wont get dimming/voltage drops? what if i do the big 3 and i still get dimming/voltage drops?

    thanks alot.

  7. lol i take it you looked at my build log. i had mine around 1200. they got stinky some times but i was newer and listening to someone else who i believe told me "dont be afraid of a little clipping" so that should answer why it was clipping lol. but anyways, yes i think if you can keep the signal clean, 1200w should be fine. however, if you arnt very sure of yourself and your ability to design and tune a system then always go a little smaller. use that 750w amp untill you really know how to set everything up then start to look at bigger amps. dont push a sub to its limit till you know how to control it.

edit - i had an autotek

    thank you :)

haha yeah i did looked at your log.

would it be a good idea to do the big 3 even though i have a stock alt/battery?

  8. not a bad deal. i think i sold mine for a little less but i dont really remember. they can take a little over rms. keep it under 1500w, 1200w would be good.

wow i love that setup! so unique (to me)! with the amp guts all showing damnnnn. 150 db's!!! i dont think i heard that in person. haha mad propz.

1200 rms? dang are you sure? what amp did you use?

  9. It can "take" more than 1000w rms, but not for a continuous amount of time. they're good for short "burps" as they call it, but running that at 2000w for an extended period of time will shit all over the coils. That kicker amp will handle the sub just fine for daily. I'm assuming the amp is 750w @ 1 ohm, whats the impedance on the speaker?

the sub is dual 4 ohms. the kicker is 2 ohm stable @ 750 rms.

  10. my chevy would bounce around to and it would settle high than what it read when driving around, its like a bad floter or along them lines but the same thing went on in my ride it would read low 1 second then it would be up higher (where it was truefully supposed to be) then it would drop down especially when i stoped at stop signs. i really only noticed this when i was like 3/4 full to 1/2 full it would drop at stop signs then go back up when i accelerated (where it was supposed to be).

yeah this might be true. because my gas meter hand would go down and then when im parked or stopped for a long time it would go back up. i will observe. thanks.

  11. Has this just been ongoing, or has it just started in this cold? Vehicles consume more fuel when it is cold. The air is denser and the engine requires more gas. I have noticed that my mileage is SUCK right now.

Do check all that stuff that Cubs_Fan said too. Those are the first things to check.

or i was thinking my gas meter is off. because sometimes it goes down and when im parked and leave my car in a lot or something it goes back up.

  12. fuse protect the power sources, never over fuse what your wire can handle. for example if you use 8 gauge wire...it is rated for about 60 amps of current. if you put a 150 amp fuse, the wire will start to melt before the fuse pops. resulting in possible fire. yes fosgate has 500 amp fuses i use a shitload of them in my truck to protect the amps, and the batteries. i need that size because i have 12k in power which results in a possible 1500 amps of draw at full tilt

hey i gotta kicker 750.1 that draws 80 amps and a kicker 350.4 that draws 40 amps. so that is a total of 120 amps. im running stock alt. (70 amps) and using a AGU 100 amp fuse. it hasnt given me any problem but do you think i should upgrade to ANL fuses and get a 125 amp? what do you think? thanks.
