  1. Sq will be there but i really want to get the max output on the subs so ima go ahead and do the big ported box tuned around 36hz and make a new topic to see what the result was.

Im pretty sure its going to be good on 3 cubes each ive read on other forums on google that they like huge boxes. The power will be right for these subs i played with them a little and they really can take power better than i thought and get pretty loud and still sound clean.

  2. Have a box im going to build for a friend who has two jl audio w7 12 subs on about 2000rms of power total.

I have an older design that i have that would give each jl audio 12 sub about 3 cubes each tuned to about 34hz.

I was reading that jl wants the sub to get around 1.75 cubes but i heard many people say they like bigger boxes a lot better and tuning around 34-36hz.

Hes going for more of a very loud setup and doesnt care much about sq although he will still get it with those subs. Also gains will be set correctly.

Question is has anybody given jl audio w7 a lot more box than recommended or does any one know whats the very best box i should go for. Its going in to a 2 door tahoe truck.

  3. My dd-1 said the cda-105 was volume 28 was clip free for the sub preout, and volume 29 for the front/rear preouts

That was with bass/treble at 0, hpf off, and subwoofer volume at 15.

the cda-117 was clip free to max volume with same flat settings.

Man thanks for the great info i think your the one that helped me with my pioneer too so thanks again. I will set the headunit at 28 then since she has a subwoofer and components as well and also raise the subwoofer level from previous 12/15 to 15/15. Thanks.

  4. I can turn it to 23 to the stock speakers and dont hear distortion so thats why i want to know if any one actually tested the real distortion level, since it did wonders for my pioneer when i found out that 60 was highest i could go, so i want to fix her setup to.

Im hoping its higher than 24 where its set at now since i think its better when you have the freedom to turn the headunit to a higher number without worrying about clipping, its just better for people who like to max out the headunit and dont know what their doing.

  5. What do you have your 105 set at as far as eq and stuff? When you say distorted did you test it with the stock speakers hooked up to the headunit or is that distorted signal you hear is from running it with your external amp?

I like to first hear speakers connected to the headunit then turn it up the highest i can go without it distorting which in my pioneer was 60/62, so im hoping someone has done that for me on the cda 105.

Whats is your sub level control set to ?/15

  6. I tuned this headunit to the amplifiers like at volume 24 but i was wondering what is the maximum unclipped level of this headunit if any one knew by chance?

I think the max is 32 but i want to know what is the highest i could go so i can retune the amps.

Also i have everything to flat but my subwoofer level control should be at 15/15 then set my bass amp right? because my bass dissapears if i lower it but just want some good input.

  7. Thanks for the info decaf thats what i meant by my questions.

So youve had experience with this head unit right? So leave the sla at 0 and then adjust my amps better right? Because when i put it at 0 (from 3) my setup got a lot quieter. Plus i have some tweeters still hooked up to the headunit (kicker ks) and those distorted a lot at around 52 when i had the sla at 3 so im trying to balance out the sound with my components as well.

Yes, reset using 0 for SLA. You will be able to turn it up louder and the tweeters shouldnt be as harsh... also your eq should be flat for now til you figure out gains/volume.

So with SLA at 0 just use whatever the highest volume you can go it before the tweeters start to sound bad, then set amp gains with that volume. You will be getting more voltage through the RCAs, and a cleaner signal.

Thanks a lot set sla to 0 and turned up gains and sounds a lot cleaner now. Put volume like at 58.

  8. Thanks for the info decaf thats what i meant by my questions.

  9. I have a double Din Pioneer f90bt the volume goes all the way up to 62.

I want to know if any one who owns it has found out where the volume distorts at exactly so i can tinker a little with some amps.

Also the pioneers have this setting thats called SLA that starts at 0 but when you raise it everything boosts on it from highs all the way to my substage and want to know where everybody has this set as it can go from 0-4 and each increment is very noticeable.

I ask since i know the alpine decks ive had there is a subwoofer bass control setting on it that ive always had to set at around 12-15(15 is max) to get the bass sounding right and with the pioneers the SLA seems to get my bass sounding harder but im wondering if i shouldnt do this and just increase my gain on amplifier a little to compensate.

Any info on where it distorts or SLA?

  10. Was using my skar 15 600rms sub on my old box i made and designed by an smd member for another sub i had(kicker cvx 15).

The box was 3.5 cubes, 15 inches of port per, and 35-36hz tuning. Running around 7-800rms to the sub.

I want to build a new box for my skar since i liked the other sub i had in this box better than the skar i replaced it with so i figured i should just make the very best box i can with the skar.

Can any one let me know what is the very best specs for a box for my skar 15 if im looking for the loudest output i can possibly get while still sounding decent in a daily driver. I want the box to be able to play the 38hz and up frequencies very loudly since it will be for various regular daily music which tends to be around that area. Of course if it can hit the 30hz to 36hz music loudly it will be great as well but i really want it to hit the higher bass very loudly for the most part.

So question is what tuning, port area, and volume would make the ideal box for loud output on 6-800rms. Thanks.
