  1. So... to help put yet another exclamation point on the SMD DD1... today I had a guy drive from Pottsville, PA to my shop in Salisbury, MD (3.5hour drive) with his Saturn... (some met him at Carlisle a few months ago... he runs a pair of Audiopipe 15" subs off a Audiopipe 3k in a Saturn TRUNK car.

well... if you were at Carlisle then you know he did a 147.6dB. Not bad.

WELL... he got here today... did a test (now you know with weather scores can change, so we wanted a baseline for comparison... 147.2dB

AFTER retuning his mids/highs amp and his sub amp... new score...

    149.1dB!!!

    THATS 1.9dB PEOPLE!!!!!

YOUR TOOL BOX AWAITS ITS NEW FRIEND! :)

  2. my apologies on the "nothing in stock" comment then. That's what just about EVERYONE has been saying bout their subs being on backorder... month away or so...

I agree Rusty is cool as hell... he talked to me one day and was cool. Very nice dude. So I can agree the customer service is top notch. As far as DD customer service sucking the big one.. I WILL AGREE WITH THAT. They do suck. And DC for the win on that one (only time I'll ever say that Chode!!)... Rusty called me back one day when I asked for him and he wasn't available I said no prob I'll call later... well 5 min later I got a phone call from Rusty.. and I didn't even leave my number. Thats awesome and I even told him that.

I have no problems with DC... I've said it before, I truly believe the absolute best subwoofers available today are from DD, DC, AA and Sundown. Period. Those are the brands you see in the lanes tearing it up. Those are the brands some great sounding SQ guys are using... They do it all. There are bandwagon groupies for all four and they are true and loyal to the brand they chose.

oh... DD, AA, Sundown and D (cough) C FOR THE WIN. :)

  3. i'm not against DC... Rusty is cool... I stayed away from carrying DC b/c EVERYONE seems to be a rep for them. Chode, Cherry, and everyone else that has a DC logo in their sig. And Cherry what's so wrong with DD? DD was and still is breaking more records than DC will ever think of.

I find it hard to stand behind a line when it's so "whored" out by having EVERYONE and their sister and their baby momma aunt's son a "rep"... kinda speaks lowly of the company if you ask me.

oh and order your DC now... oh wait... they have nothing in stock... kinda like T3.

edit: and why are you so anti DD???

  4. I got the chance to use one of these thanks to Ric of PCA. Real shit. It was so easy to do. I'll say it took 10 minutes to do because I have 4 amps and and I'm running active. Play the tones, roll the volume or gain and look for the light... Just as easy or easier than the videos that have been posted. Even though I've already got my system distortion/clipping free, I'm still gonna buy one. I highly recommend you guys get one. Thanks Ric for letting me use it.

For anybody that hasn't had a chance to use it....

    YOU MAAAAAAD!!!

    drinks.gif

I told Steve I tuned some systems up with it at the show... I counted 11 setups... pretty cool. You are right... it is super easy to use and setup with... infact the more I use it the faster I can do it... Ask Chase... I believe it was under a minute. He was like... "that's it?" lol

I believe everyone experienced distortion detection (as TWISTEDCHILD420 says) clapping.gif and said they could even notice a difference (except chode... I set his up then he still touched it before the meter got to it dry.gif)

  5. Hummmm. I understand your logic, I'm trying to think of something that can "distort" a sine without being "distortion".

Sure looks and sounds like a duck.

    reasons:

    box flex

    environment of car

    transfer

that jacket laying on the back seat

the blow up doll in the front seat

bottle of mountain dew in the port

    cracked window

window not rolled all the way up

there are actually alot of things

  6. Sounds good, now since we all went out and bought TPI 440's (which have all of a sudden been dubbed cheap pieces of junk for some reason <_< ) and other forms of O-scopes based on your recommendation that using an o-scope was the only right way to set amplifier gains....how bout a little make up sex for the misinformation.

Im wondering where all these o-scope naysayers were back when that's all you herd about around here?

Maybe somebody I know will buy one first so i dont have to waste anymore money.

    lol

and Punky you know if you come here I can help you setup the gains with my super cool dd1. :)

I have love for TDH like that. :)

  7. a little more info for you guys...

We all know that when you clip your system it adds "dirty power" so I wanted to see what kind of dirty power Gary had before setup with the SMD dd1. The results are surprising. :)

    BEFORE TUNING WITH SMD dd1

    ACv- 62.09

    amp- 39.14

    2430.2026 watts SPL score 150.8dB

    AFTER TUNING WITH SMD dd1

    ACv- 56.14

    amp- 34.07

1912.6898 watts SPL score 150.9dB (after playing music for over 45 minutes straight with the truck off!!!)

edit: in other words... 517.5128 watts where "dirty" or distorted power and it didn't help the score at all. and FYI I have seen a few people (one re re on youtube said this too) say that "i've tuned by ear this tool is useless you can hear distortion"... I have been doing car audio for 16+ years. I have built countless SPL and SQ setups not to mention everyday bangers... I can tell you this... This is the fastest and easiest way to set up tuning, and I thought I got the cars pretty close by ear (judges comments on my competitors setups confirmed that) but this takes the cake so to speak. Gary's truck sounded fantastic before, and anyone who has heard it would agree... like i said in the vid though.. it sounds BETTER now.

if you don't add this to your toolbox as an installer of audio both home and auto... then you are insane. bottom line.

  8. Wow, that's impressive. Were these previously tuned with a scope?

one was. Mike's. The Oscope broke and I was going to order another 300.00 one, then Steve came out with this. I waited and it was more than worth the wait. MUCH MUCH easier to use. Seeing a light out of the corner of your eye when you are inside a car with a flashlight turning the gain knobs with sweat dripping off your eyebrow is so much simpler than trying to see a line on something you have to shine the flashlight on making you drop the screwdriver and have to dig around in french fries and chicken nuggets to pick it up... (a headache I'm sure some of you have done)... trust me this tool is much simpler. I applaud Steve, Tony and Juan for making this product and getting it in our hands.
