  1. I am doing a project where I have to build an interactive powerpoint presentation. I've Chosen to do this on Car Audio. I am curious if I can get some help on some brands though, so I can try to use only quality brands for subs, amps, components. And for amps I want to try and keep it CEA-Compliant amps. I also plan to try and have at least 10 different brands for each section, but more if I can get enough for all sections. I know of a few or at least think I do, they are as follows:

    Subs

Fi, AA, DC Audio, Digital Designs, SSA, Sundown, RE Audio, Incriminator Audio, Rockford Fosgate, American Bass, Audio Que

    Amps

US Amps, Diablo Audio Technologies, Crescendo Audio, Soundstream, Rockford Fosgate, Stetsom, Sundown

    Components

    Need lots of help here

I think the rest of presentation I got the info for already, but I want to know what everyday Audiophiles suggest as quality brands

any help is greatly appreciated adn Ill post my rpesenation up if anyone wants, when it is done

  2. i know final ohm load is less than 4, both speakers are 4 ohm load but speaker terminals are bridged parallel internally, meaning it is dropping the ohm load of the speakers if two of them are wired (or so i understand it to be that way)

    car is 1999 oldsmobile alero

ground is good, i previously had a class d mono in it and it was about 3 times as powerful and it never got hot, ground is directly on the frame, paint has been grinded off

i set the gain by doing the test where you turn settings down and turn volume up a bit and then slowly turn gain up until some distortion, then i turned the gain down 2 steps form this and since then i have turned gain down another 2 steps, originally gain went to 8-9 before distortion, i turned it to 6-7 and right now its between 4-5

  3. as i thought it is something to do with my ip address

i am using a proxy and i can access the site from home now, but if i use my normal ip i cannot access the site, this is the only site that does this, so i am unsure as to why it is doing this

i do not see my isp banning this site as there is nothing wrong with it, so sadly i may have to use a proxy every time i want to go here, which sucks because this is about the only thing i check on besides email on the internet

  4. I have a class AB Rockford Fosgate Prime R500.1 amp. The speaker terminals are bridged in parallel internally and the 2 subs I have installed with it are dual 4 ohm, so I assume with the terminals bridged internally it presents a 2 ohm load. The amp is good at 2 ohms, and is putting about 200Rms or so to each sub, each sub can handle 500rms and the birth sheet rates the amp at 583RMS at 14.4v. I have not had the chance to see what voltage I am sitting at, but still I can only get about 30 min or less of music play before amp overheats and shuts down, i installed the amp sunday and this has happened twice since then. I have notice there are soem fans you can buy or I can get a computer fan, but I am nto sure how I should ount them to make sure they work when the amp is running and they wont stay on, and give good air flow.

The amp is mounted on the back of my back seat, the back seat folds down, right now I am playing it with seat fodled down and back window down to try and keep it cool. The boxed is sealed and takes up majority of back trunk, there is roughly 3 inches or so from top of box to the top of trunk. The back of my car is actually wrecked a bit, and the trumnk has a gap in it, so that should allow plenty of air flow in as well.

Any ideas what fans or such would be best and where I can find them?

To be sure about my wiring of the subs, I used the12volt.com wiring diagragm to make sure the subs present a 4ohm load to the amp, because previously the subs were wired at 2ohms and being wired at 2 ohms and then going to a terminal that is bridged in parallel, i think it was giving the amp a 1 ohm load

    2_4ohm_dvc_4ohm.gif

the subs sounded awesome, but amp would go into protect mode after minute or so of play, so I quickly rewired them.

  5. I am unsure why, but I cannot access the forum while at home. I have not changed any settings adn I have used 3 different browsers, and it will not allow me to access the forum. Tells me the site is either busty or i have a firewall blocking my connection, but I am ont he site now at school and called my wife to see if she coudl get on and it had same problem, and I do not have a firewall so I know that is not the issue.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Did my IP get blocked for any reason?

  6. i dont think thats the problem, as i said above a installed the exact same h/u but it was my friends and it worked, its just that my own h/u does not work, they were same model and all so i do think it was the protect mode or anything like that, i just think its the internal amp

  7. i redid all wiring today, and it still messed up, i found out a friend of mine has same stereo, so we hooked it up seeing if it would do same thing, and his worked just fine, so i think the problem may be the internal amp like pioneer told me

not sure what else it could be

i think ill just put it on ebay or something cause someone may know how to fix it, ill just have to look around for another one thats i can afford

    thanks for the help everyone

  8. installed h/u again, now i can go up in volume without it cutting out or shutting off, but if i use anything like bass, middle, treble, loud, or slam settings, it basically starts cutting out, so all of those are set at 0 right now adn then h/u works, not sure where the problem is, ill prolly take it out along with wiring and get some pics to see if its wired right

or ill have to fork over some cash for a new one

  9. currently only speakers hooked up are my front door speakers and tweeters, ill try to reinstall and see what the cd player does this time

also ill recheck all the wires, cant remember how the wires are done, a friend of mine hooked it up, back then i had no idea of anything car audio, since then i wished i had done research first, lol

  10. i contemplated 18s as well, but currently at 15s, my trunk is taller than 16 inches but if the box going in is taller than 16.5 inches, it will not fit through the opening, and even though my seats fold down, still wouldnt be room in the back seat to push box through, although i supposed if you built the entire system within the car already it would be possible, maybe mount subs from inside of box rather than outside, dunno

  11. i have the same question for my kicker 15s

here is a diagram i amde trying to explain what i was asking

    8zi5xt.gif

since my 15s are in a sealed enclosure, i wondered how i could wire them in parallel down to 1 ohm and each sealed compartment has a terminal where the pos adn neg inputs form subs go to the term on inside of box and the outside of box term goes to the amp

basically all pos terminals wired together and all neg terminals wired together

  12. i was actually looking at some soundstream amps and a sound storm amp got in the group soemhow and i didnt even realize it at first, lol

thats prolly how they stay in business, or like the multitude of crap thats out there that name their companies similar to good brands, so people think it may be a lower brand or something of that bigger brand and people that dont want to do the proper research to spend a few extra bucks for even a decent system

i know a lot of people that spends tons on a system and they dont even know what rms is frequency response or even port, they just thinking the person selling it knows everything and hooked them up

basically if i havent seen it on this site more than once, and in good standing with some people, i wont bother with it
