I hope you plan on showing up at some dBDrag events!
Looks like a super tight wall. Does it pass the dBDrag "string test"?

Thanks for the free education Tony!
I actually paid for the education several years ago.
It's funny how much easier it is to understand from your videos.
I can understand it all when I can relate it to audio.
Keep 'em coming Mr. D!!!

A forklift is not for lifting people. Shame on you Steve!

I need to compare the z15 and x15. I'm not sure which will fit.
These will be very helpful. Thanks Jacob!

^This
Maybe I'll be able to convince my brother to put a couple in his Forester.
I'm excited to see you getting into the SQ stuff with the JF signature and these(assuming that's what this is for).

It's great sound deadener. It should work great for you.
-
^Yeah that could be your problem. I hope it helps. Let us know.

If you have the gain set at 1 volt, that's probably the opposite of what you want. Your gain says something like .5-5.0 volts right?
Your head unit puts out 2-5 volts most likely. So your amp needs to be set the same, not at the lower voltage. If your head unit puts out 4 volts
your amp needs to be set to 4 volts. Otherwise you'll clip.

You totally missed the point dude. Its getting taken care of but you basically put them on blast about something that should have been handled directly with them.
I get your point, but I think this forum is here to share experiences with companies and their products. This thread does both.
People can see that there may be an issue with an item, AND that it is quickly resolved with great customer service.
That's a big part of how good companies like XS Power build their reputation and customer base.
Of course there is no point in arguing about it. The thread is already here anyway.
I'm done posting here until I get the I-BAR kit sent back and receive word from XS. I'll come back and let people know how the return goes. Until then...

Don't make a big deal about it. Nathan was cool about it and very helpful.
It's getting taken care of. So if you have nothing to contribute just stay out please.
-
If he wanted to say that he could have. I haven't caused any problems here n8.
Nathan was cool about it and he says to contact him through PM (as I did) or by making a post which I also did.
-
Cool deal, I just called and got an RTA. I'll be sending them back soon.
Nathan, is there anything I should do other than just box up the kit and send it in?
-
Thanks Nathan!
Now I just need to figure out if it's been a year or more. I know I got it in March last year. Hmmm...
-
^Thanks for the input.
I definitely did everything by the book, using correct hardware etc.
I'll probably replace the negative side with a piece of flat stock, aluminum or copper. That's easy enough. As for the positive side, I need to get a nice terminal/fuse block to make my new install work well. I'll see what ToolMaker or ProjectDb can do for me.
-
It seems like a terrible execution of a simple design. I'm just gonna replace what I have to with some aluminum or copper. I'll figure that out later.
-
^That sucks. How long did yours last?
-
I contacted Nathan. See what he says.
-
Also, if the failure was caused by over-tightening, there would be some evidence of twisting or thread damage/failure or rounding out of the whole. All of which are none existent.
-
Orion,
No, I didn't contact XS directly yet. I was too excited and decided to post here first.
SnowDrifter,
The bolt screws into what seems to be a lead nut that is is molded into the rest of the bar. Looks to me like there wasn't a good bond between said nut and the rest of the casting, hence the nut-shaped nugget that popped out of both I-bars.
-
And there was definitely no unnecessary stress on either of them. The cables had slack to allow the motor to rock, and the bolts were not overtightened. The battery is installed in the factory location, and with all the hardware supplied by XS Power. I don't see how this could be user error.
They both suffered minor melting caused by the loose bits arcing and sparking.

Todays negative terminal failure:
Positive failure from 8 months ago:
Both failed I-bars:

I'm uploading photos now. You can clearly see what I mean. I think they're 556s?

One year ago I installed an S3400 with I-bars. Only 4 months later, in July, I was a thousand miles from home when my car wouldn't start. The battery rested at 13 volts. So what was wrong? Turns out the Positive terminal had broken loose from the I-bar. The threads were not stripped, they were intact. But a lead nut had been pulled out of the I-bar and was sitting loosely in place, giving intermittent continuity and open circuit.
So I got that fixed by attaching my cables directly to the battery terminal rather than the I-bar. I figured it was a fluke thing and haven't had any other problems with my I-bars until yesterday.
So last night I was on my way home and was bumpin' along watching my voltage gauge. When I stopped at a red light I Saw my voltage drop to 10.4!!! But it went back up pretty quickly and I went on my way.
But tonight I was about to leave work and the car wouldn't start. I immediately popped the hood and checked the terminals. I couldn't tell that anything was loose and the car started up again and got me home charging at 14.44 give or take a bit.
So I got home and checked the terminals again and the Negative terminal was loose so I wiggled it a bit and it popped right out just like the positive terminal had done months earlier.
So now within 1 year of purchasing and installing my I-bars, both have failed and nearly left me stranded twice. Very disappointing.

^You probably could, but you might have to run the subs/speakers into clipping.
Whereas with the DD-1 you disconnect them to do the setup. Which keeps them safe.
