  1. After the entire trouble shoot, the problem was the worn out aluminum pulley. The grove on the pulley was getting thin. Even though the alternator come with a two-year warranty the pulley was in a ware and tears case. So thanks to Chris at Mechman Tec support, he only charges me ½ the price of a new aluminum pulley plus the shipping. Now I have installed my stock alternator with Mechman voltage adjustable adapter. I still can set the voltage output of the stock alternator to 15.5v cold and 14.4 when hot. All 3 batteries are still being charge. Now my stock alternator installed back into my 2011 Toyota sienna and it sound super quiet, it sounds like a new car. Before with the high out put alternator my car have a loud winding sound all the time. I will put the Mechman alternator on the side just for the look in my car garage.

    lol

a worn out pulley? and it makes noise so you go back to stock to have a quiet oem sound?

seems like mechman is using real quality parts here.... even if 1 groove wore out on the pulley if you have a 6 groove belt that is more than enough for 200 amps still with 5 grooves. how does only one groove wear out? how does the pulley wear out? rubber vs metal. the metal should win. the belt wears not the pulley.

this reminds me of that time mechman was trying to get out of warranty because the customer put more than one run from the charging post and they said it can hurt the alternator. ya right guys.

and they charged you for a pulley that costs 10 dollars? so you payed 5 plus shipping? if you payed more thats pretty shitty especially if you are still under warranty period.

When I had my mechman alt I wore out the pulley, the belt had slipped on it slowly over time and it heats up the metal and slowly wears it down/melts it. I switched to a singer 2 years ago and he uses steel pulleys because of this, but I just killed the rectifier in his, probably my fault either running my batteries too low, or because I had to take out my rear battery in the back between the alt and the amps. Either way if you push any alt to far it will fail. Luckily he just charges cost for parts and does the repair for free. I will say after how I was treated with mechman I will never be buying one of there products again, they do make good alts but they basically left me in the ditch to die. Singer on the other hand will always get back to me and has given me excellent customer service. Either way you gotta make sure you dont let your battery's get way down and undercharged, that will kill an alt fast.

  2. I had a d3100 that had a cell go bad in it, so it would float fine, but if you put even a small amp load on it, I mean 10 amps even, it would drop to 10v easy, I shipped it in, took them a few times, the first time they tested it they said it turned out good, but they said they always charge it back up and retest, and they did and it fell flat on its face they said. They shipped me a brand new battery free of charge, I have had great service with them, I have talked to them before about sealing up a leaking d3400, which is my fault more as it saw some pretty high voltages, spiking up to the 16's, I reglued it and it holds a load fine, and that one is 4 years old lol

  3. Introducing the newest, latest greatest tool in our lineup. The DD-1+. Finally, the official release date is set for March 15th

2014. I am opening up the presale now though! http://www.wccaraudio.com/smd-products/smd-tools/smd-distortion-detectors/smd-distortion-detector-plus-dd-1.html Actually, i have 13 units available. First come first serve on those! If you do order and do NOT get one of the first 13, don't worry, your money is safe and your order will process. The first 13 will ship MONDAY morning!

The DD-1+. It is not the "DD2". It is "Plus" because we are not phasing out the first model at all. This is just

the DD-1 on steroids. It has more features and a digital readout :D

Here are a few bullet points -

    * Sets audio system gain overlap, continuously variable from 0.0dB - 15.0dB in 0.1dB steps

    * Checks gain overlap of an audio system without making any adjustments to the existing settings

    * Verifies that the gain overlap of an install hasn't been tampered with after install

    * Features our Patent Pending Distortion Detection system plus digital microcontroller and our proprietary firmware

    * 200V maximum input (same as DD-1 HV)

    * Quasi-RMS voltmeter (can detect clipping at any frequency)

Want to know how it works? Check out this video.

Wondering what to do with your old DD-1? I say Keep it! They aren't discontinued! If you would like to upgrade though, i am offering a $49.99 trade in

discount. This is for unit's in good working condition and still in decent cosmetic shape. I suppose as long as it doesn't look

like a truck ran it over, i will consider taking it in. CD's, Manuals, and Probes aren't necessary as i know those won't be in

the best shape from normal use.

Please email attn: jason at [email protected] and let him know you are planning on sending in your original DD-1. Send it to

us with your name, email address and phone number to contact you. We will invoice you seperately with the discount and put you

in the rotation when the new "+" units arrive. If you don't want to send in your original DD-1 and then wait 4-6 weeks, i

understand! just wait till we have them in stock, the offer will still be good.

    thanks for your attention!

I will be doing this once they go in stock, you said the offer for trade in will still be good, I cant complain for $50 to get this beast of a machine, having the ability to see gain overlap on peoples systems that wern't set yet is fucking awesome

I want it cause it has a screen on it and red is awesome ha ha

    ******************

nevermind, I understood it wrong, I thought it was you trade in your old one and pay $50 and get the new one, not trade in your old one and and pay $200, will keep my old one I guess :'\

  4. Just got my recones done :D did it all from parts, back in buisness, its no ones fault, part of it was cause I accidenlty turned bass boost on and didn't realize it and clipped the shit out of them for about a week, burner 1 tinsel lead, then I put the 1 working 12 I'm the box alone with 3.4 cubes for it, was crazy loud, seemed more them 2 in that box, but blew it from crazy excursion, which I wanted cause i was gonna recone them both

  5. He posted this 2 weeks ago and has tried to contact XS multiple times during that time span...... Just saying.

This was posted on Monday, while our entire sales and tech staff was at the SEMA show in Las Vegas... essentially, we were closed for all practical purposes. Any emails sent during that time would have received an automated response explaining such, if sent to the correct address. Same goes for anyone calling in last week or the week before. Now that we are back in the office, we are catching up as quickly as possible.

This will still receive the same consideration as any other request for business or service, and will be handled in the order it was received. Posting about it on a forum will not give anyone any special consideration, and as mentioned in my original post above, will more than likely tie our hands as to how lenient we can be with our findings.

For anyone who has been waiting to speak with us, we apologize for the delay, and greatly appreciate your patience. All phone lines and emails are in full operation now and we are happy to help any way we can!

I will give you a call on monday when you are open, my issue is I dont wanna ship a battery if there is a chance It wont be covered because it gets expensive, the battery had started leaking awhile ago and it is now getting worse to the point where idk if I can even keep using it, started to leak down into my amp rack

  6. really makes me happy i didnt go with XS for my batts ive seen quite a few of these happing at shows here

Any battery manufacture will have issues, no one company is perfect. I dont know how many swollen kinetiks ive seen.

And its never installer error, its always the companies who makes the products fault.

From what I can tell, where it is cracked is below the rope handle which is a high stress area for the plastic to support a 46lb battery (possibly why XS went away with this style handle on the other batteriers). But then again I never moved them around by a handle anyways (no matter what style handle), unless your just asking to potentially have a battery drop on your feet

I removed the ropes and never really carried them like this, it just randomly cracked there very small, they are good batteries, but this is the second one that took a shit on me, my first one was a d3100 that had a cell die in it, now this one is leaking really bad, had it leak down into my new amp rack a bit, I am going to try and get ahold of them so I can send it in

  7. That really is a nice idea...think I'll use it for my car :D

Here are some more pics, the main piece is a donut that bolts to where the tire goes, the amps fit perfect on that :D you need cooling though, otherwise it gets hot as hell in there

One 2/0 is directly from the alt stud, the other is from the front d3100 battery, both fused to that center point, the battery hooks to that middle stud, and another fuse goes to the main sub amp from there so the battery is totally protected with fuses

  8. call them first thing in the morning and get an RA#,you'll more than likely get it handled faster than waiting for someone from XS to see this. My 3400 made a hissing noise one night after I had been driving,I'm starting to wonder if there's a problem with the D3400's and heat. I have a battery wrap on mine to keep the heat down but it was on it when the battery was hissing so IDK.. I try to check mine often because of that,my D1200 in the back has had no problems though. Nice setup btw.. I'm wondering how much space between and how you mounted those amps but I'll see it in your BL.

The d3400 was up front in the engine bay originally, but it never got hot, its pretty far from the main engine heat. The Amps have about a little less then half an inch between them, before the fans they would get very hot and shut off after around 30 mins of full tilt, but now with those fans they stay nice and cool even full tilt for over an hour or more, you can feel the air through it really well, havnt had them shut off once after making the fan system, the middle fan does around 130 Cubic ft per minute ha ha, and has a lot of static pressure, pulls in fresh air from behind the rear seat area :D

  9. So I have a d3400 here that was leaking around the seams earlier last winter and slowed in the spring. Now it seems to be bubbling out liquid around the top and making a squealing noise and it seems to have cracked the casing iteseld, idk if its from pressure or what, but I have never dropped this battery, and it is located in a very secure place so it doesnt move around and is held in nice and tight. This battery see's no more then 14.3v for charging and is setup with a mechman 220 amp alt. All 2/0 gauge wiring, it had started leaking earlier this year but was holding the voltage fine, was told pretty much to keep running it, but I had the option of sending it in, I decided to just run it as it was working alright. Now it has gotten a lot worse and seems to be going all over. Its 34 months old, so 2 months from the warrenty being up, hoping Nathan will chime in, im more then willing to ship it in for warranty.

The battery has fans blowing on it as it goes through the amps then the battery, ill post some pictures of how my amp rack is currently setup, I havnt updated my Build log for awhile so you will get to see some new work that hasn't been posted also :D

Battery was part of the 2010 Group Sale buy in December, so 34 months ago. I do still have the original Receipt also!

From Today November 4th (Didnt Push on it at all, this was just what it was doing)

    Back In April

3 - Kicker 650.4 amps mounted in the tire wheel, along with a cooling system, speaker junction, fusing, and battery tray :D

    IMAG3908.jpg

    IMAG3913.jpg

With the top piece it holds it so it doesnt move at all, I have more room then how the stock setup was for a trunk and all my mid/high equipment installed :D

    IMAG3816.jpg

    IMAG3538.jpg

A Lot better and space saving this this old amp rack with the old tire rack not even being used!
