Is it ok to have the port on the outside of the box?
-
I finally have every thing planned out! I have a few options to chose from.
What do you guys think?
OPTION 1:
OPTION 2:
OPTION 3:
I like the positioning of option 1, yet the simplicity of option 3.
-
i generally tune my boxes from 33-36 hz
How do I tune it to that?
-
Still need help tuning it.
-
Ok. Now That I understand that, what would be a good "tuning"? I'm going with a 12 square inch opening.
-
What do you mean by squar feet? Isn't squar feet 2D (only a surface) Would that mean the opening has to be 12 to 16 ?
-
Damn, that´s one weird box! why does it have that shape? and, if you have 1.5 cubic feet before displacement, the port should be external hommie, if not, it´s gonna get way to small for that sub!!
Said that, i would get an external 4" aeroport maybe? something like 12" long giving you a 39 hz tuning, i don´t think you would be able to play low frequencies too strong with that small box, so why bother trying? depends on your music likes my friend, if you want to play lower then you could get something like 16" long, giving you a 35 hz tuning if you use 5" of the port inside the box and 11" outside the box getting around 1.4 cubic feet after displacement.
I forgot to ask you, what´s the sub displacement???
1. the box is over 1.5 after displacement, with room for a port.
2. the box is shaped like that because it's part of a bigger box and the "cut out" at the bottom back is to make room for the lip in my truck.
3. I do want to play the lows.
The recommended box volume for my sub is 1.5 after all displacement. Once I find the right size port I will adjust the box to have a final volume of 1.5.

Really need help!

This is the the box I need help porting.
The I would like the port at the bottom (facing forward) but facing up would work too.
The box is just a little over 1.5 cubic feet. I left room for the port. I will be putting in a 12" DC XL. As for the tuning I don't know, what ever you guys think is the right choice.
Here are some of the measurements.

They even ran an episode on the show "Trucks" except they went a bit further with it.
I've seen it. I would like to throw a V8 in but don't have that kind of money.
-
The swap is very simple. It's the same engine with more displacement. Just swap out the ecu and your good to go. The trans bell housing will bolt right up also if I remember right.
Edit: I think I might be wrong. Let's start here. What engine is in the truck already?
I know I should have said this from the beginning (don't ask why I didn't).
My truck is a 1993 Mazda B3000 with the original 3.0L V6. It decided to quite on me, which means rebuild or get a new one. I figured since I need to pull the engine out ether way might as well upgrade. I found a 2002 Ford Explorer V6 for sale and this brings us to where we are now.

GRANTED it is a lot easier said than done but if you really wanted to do it...
It's more have to the engine is finished in my truck ('93 Mazda B3000) and I was looking for an upgrade.
-
Does any one know how hard it would be to put a 2002 Ford Explorer 4.0L V6 into a 1993 Ford Ranger(2WD)?
-
Finally! It is nice to be getting some where. I've been trying to find the right system and now I'm getting some where. I'll let you all know what my decision is as soon as I make it.
So far I think DC XL, just waiting for a reply on price + shipping, and the AQ 2200ds will be $868 for both + duties so most likely another $113. So, $981 for the amps.
-
Your car would have a much easier time getting attention if you were louder with less woofer rather than trying to have aesthetics make up for it. Just go with freaking dc xls or something. You will be better off
That means I have to replan my whole box and set up... All well (it will give me somthing to do during winter). Ok guess I will give 2 DC XLs a shot. Now How do I power them?
-
Why do you want 4? People don't realize that its possible to get louder with less cone area
Show, I'm turning my truck into a show vehicle.
-
You could most likely get to 2 dc xl 12's for less then that and be wayyyy louder.
I want four, I need to know where to get them and I also need a to get them here.
-
hmm, how much would you pay per woofer on the p3's?
Well sonicelectronix has them for $150 with a "make an offer" I was thinking $110 - $130. At their price with shipiing and all the taxes and stuff, all four would come up to 912.04 CND.
-
also im curious, what made you go with RF P3's and an MB Quart amp? is that all that is available in your area or what?
I just got my first sub from a friend and it was a RF P2D412, I loved it, but it's not enough. Since I liked the sound of the RF Punch series I figured that I might as well go for the P3. And since I'm on a tight budget, the MB Quart was the cheapest fit.
-
wait....so you want to waste MORE money by getting 2 amps because its a convenience? have you ever heard of a bass knob? all audioque amps come with one. you can control how loud they will get....
True... Sorry if i seem a little dumb, I've been working nights a lot and with little sleep.
Where can I buy a audioque 2200d, that will ship to Canada? Then best thing the stores around my area sell is Pioneer.
-
i assume you will have 2 amps? why not just get the D4 models and wire each amp down to 1 ohm?
or even better yet, just buy one amp, go with the audioque 2200d and wire to 1 ohm this way
it will be easier running 1 amp rather than 2.
I want to be able to listen to only 2 subs at a time while I'm driving or have my girl friend in the vehicle (she don't like the boom... yet!)
-
I'm going to be running 4 Rockford Fosgate 12" P3s (P3D212). I want to run then in pairs (2 subs 1 amp). I was wondering if running them on the MB Quart ONX1.1500D was good or not?

Cool! Thanks for all the help. Now I just need to find the right amp and the time to hook it all up and I'll be good to go!
-
+ to + and - to -. It's called parallel wiring
Oh I looked on a few sites and it seemed as if it would keep it at the same ohms.

Good, because this is what I think I'm going to build for my truck.
