  7. Well i feel pretty dumb right now. Yesterday, on my way home from work i stopped by this little car audio shop, mind you i was kind of intimidated by the 3 big suv's with rims, and the chrysler 300's, so i didnt know what to expect. I was just looking around when the owner asked if i had a system. Naturally, i take him outside and pop the trunk, and turn on some Young Jeezy - white girl, for him to preview it. I told him i couldnt turn it up too loud because my amp shuts off after a while. He gives me this look of confusion and before he even said anything i jumped right in and said "THE POWER WIRE IS TOO SMALL! I GOT THIS WIRED WHEN I WAS 15 AND DIDNT KNOW WHAT I WAS DOING!" He then asks me how i wired the subs. Come to find out i wired them down to 1 ohm. He said "Well theres your problem!" 5 minutes later he got the same amount of bass (even more id say) out of my kickers, with no stress on the amp whatsoever, no battery drop, no flickering lights and most of all no protection mode! Turns out Jl audio's 1000/1 doesnt like 1ohm so he wired them to 2ohm and its much better. Thank you all for your tips! Even though they werent the problem, ive gained some more knowledge in the car audio field!!
  8. yeah, i tried doing some research on all the settings for my amp and no one really knows. and it doesnt help that i dont have the manual that came with the amp either :/
  9. here are the specs to the box. I built the ported box. since i have two subs i pretty much made two boxes side by side, and divided the two boxes by two 3/4" pieces of mdf. and to answere your question EL1t3Bass, all my money goes to driving my ass to work 5 days a week. so $100 in gas, my car insurance, phone bill, and all that good stuff. the rents dont pay for shit. (how it should be) lol http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_enclusure.php?series_id=25
  10. yeah, thank you guys for the help. And i know i didnt research enough lol. Im 18 and working at a healthcare center. Been working full time since 15 and saving up for a system. TRUST ME, this isnt my idea of a nasty system but im makin the best of what i got. My buddy sold me the used kickers for 100 bucks. The amp on the other hand is a friend of mines, hes lettin me borrow it. (hes the kid in the article with the chinstrap) He has 4 10" JL audio w3's, and the 1000/1 was powering those. But he got a new car so he gutted his jeep. And even if i had my ideal system, it wouldnt be in the back of a 2000 grand marquis, thats for damn sure.
  11. I believe subsonic and infrasonic are the same thing. so in this case my Infrasonic filter is shut off. I was told by the guys at the local car audio shop to leave it alone. The Lp filter slope is at 12db right now. Im running a kenwood head unit. The Rca's are by monster cable. Since the amp is a 2 channel, i ran the subs in parallel. Then i got Y splitter for the rca's. And the ground is bolted to the bottom of my trunk panel. I cut a "x" out in the carpet and bolted the ground right down, away from the carpet. Also i was wondering if you guys were familiar with JL's amps and settings. The polarity (normal/reversed) Infrasonic filter, theres a setting called "Q", and the center frequency. Im not sure what those all are.
  12. Nah its not an up-firing box, i faced the box up so my teachers and the enterprise lady could take pictures and stuff. It's normally faced outwards. And plus the box is so damn big (even in a grand marquis lol) that if it was up-firing the ports would be blocked by the trunk lid. Im also powering the two cvr's with a 1000/1 JL audio amp. The input sensitivity is just about halfway up. Anywhere further than that they get distorted. And i also just recently put some polyfill in there to help. It made a little difference but not a whole lot.
