  1. the reason your sub went out that fast is you did not allow the woofer to be broke in, from the factory the suspension is verry stiff, they need to be played gently till the suspension is loosened up. this will normally take a week or two depending on the hours of use, 20-25 hours is usualy good @ arround half power. then let it rip

That is not true, it's a common rumor, but even nick and Jacob themselves said you don't have to have a break in period, they will just start to sound better as they get broken in. That is NOT why your sub smoked! Disregard that comment lol

alright lol im about to hook my sub back up and see what happens

  2. Well we can't really say that were your gains are set isn't clipping, and you could have been clipping on your head unit as well. How dis you set your gains? Just by ear?

yah by ear, i told the stereo place i had it set just under half and they said it would be fine as long as i didnt crank it up or turn the bass boost up. and i dont know any other way to set them. how could i tell if i was clipping?

Well if your OA smoked on 600watts it's almost a sure thing you were clipping some way. Unless you got a faulty sub im sure you would have known that a long time ago since you've already had it for a month

how can i tell if im clipping and i just looked at the voice coil and it doesnt look burnt and it moves in and out and theres no rubbing that i can feel/hear

  3. Pics of wiring would help also. Positive to Positive to Positive on amp, and Negative, To Negative, To Negative on amp should be 2 ohms final load. Sounds wired correctly, but then again. Are you sure you were not clipping it to hell? And when you said "They" Built your box.. Who is they? And did they do anything else?

sorry i didnt see this post and the place is called inovative sound solutions (ISS) and all they did was build my box

  5. They ran a wire from positive to positive and to the amp?

They ran a wire from negative to negative and to the amp?

Older way of wiring in parallel is to have both coils wired positive to positive and negative to negative and one coil from sub positive to amp and other coil negative coil to amp, what that does is to equalize the coils so they each see the power together at the same time.

but does that wire it down to 2ohm or should i rewire it and that still doesn tell me why it was smoking but i guess wiring would neccisarily have anything to do with that

one sec let me draw a pic of how they had it wired to the amp

  6. alright so heres my dilema, i was bumpin hella loud and all the sudden i smelled smoke, my sub has been in my car for over a month running on a mtx jackhammer. sub is dual 4 and when i had my box built i asked them what they wired the sub down to they said 2ohms but anyway. when i smelled smoke i shut my sub off and was right down the street from my house and ilooked back and there was a shit ton of smoke just billowing out of my port i was like ahhh sheeet!! and raced home. i pulled out my sub to find this..... the sub was wired like so. a wire from the positive on one side to the positive on the other side and same with the negative. (negative to negative on other side. and from there a wire from the positive and one from the negative to the amp. i looked on the12volt and according to them thats not even a real configuration for a dual 4. can someone help plz sorry to make so long but i dont even know if my sub still works

  7. http://ksu.craigslist.org/ele/2528852753.html heres what im lookin at and currently i have a 15" obsidian audio d4 wired to 2 ohm on a mtx jh600 and no lie it's loud as shit, too loud so my plan is to sell my current setup and downsize but still have a little money. so my question is, do these kicker and jl combo sound ok for the price? i know i will have to get a bigger amp and make a better box but i can sell/trade the jl for something better

edit:the guy says the amp is perfect but the subs are dual 4 and at 4ohms the amp only runs like 350w rms

  8. It's all about making your system work the best with what you have to work with. You can't ignore Hoffman's Iron Law; a small enclosure will help with power handling but you will sacrifice low end extension and efficiency because of the size of the box. No way around it.

Shipping time depends on where you live. We are in NC, so hop on FedEx's web site to check on transit times.

alright so my dimensions are 30" from side to side and 28" from back of seat to back of car and 15" tall what does that come out to?

    where in NC are you?

  9. 2 ft^3 ported for a 15" is a bit small. If you're talking about a single 12" that volume and tuning is perfect. For a 15" try to stay between 3 ft^3 to 3.5 ft^3 ported to 35 or 32 Hz.

k thanks, and since i ordered friday when do you think it might get here like wednesday or say thursday just to be safe?

  10. good choice, you should be very happy with that in a decent box

Very true. A box can make or break subwoofer performance. Stick to what is recommended on our site and you'll have a great subwoofer/box combo! :D

lol i didnt even really look at the requirements. erm would 2cubes at 35hz ok?
