  1. thanks all, got a great deal on a pair of w6's bnib, i can upgrade the amp later if i need to i considered all the ideas (came close to going with 4 w1's)
  2. oh ok all the subs i listed i think can be run fine off 500 watts, matter of fact when i go duals in the future will probably go with a slash 1000...so till 500 a piece what about DD or Audioque btw, i really do like the sound of the gti's and the w6's but pretty sure im gonna need a pair of those to really slam
  3. both the sundown and gcon 15" look pretty sick, any more suggestions?
  4. I believe you are correct and that is actually what I plan on doing in the future...big 3, 1000 watts and a pair of nice 12's I wanted something in the meantime though
  5. for use in a Cadillac Deville off a JL Audio Slash 500/1 I previously had a pair of Image Dynamics ID 12's before running ported off around 250 watts, wasn't really bangin Lots of trunk space to go with a large ported box if need be, Subs I was considering, W6, W7, IDMAX, IDQ, JBL GTi, but I guess I can really go with any sub I can order online now that I've found a box builder also considering a pair of lower end models like W3's or Alpine Type R's I want as much slam as I can get while maintaining decent sq
  6. probably not gonna like what u tell me, lol, but those chest thumping mid bass type frequencies, i'd say i don't much care too much about anything below 50 hz
  7. have a 500 watt JL Audio Slash can i get nice slam from this sub off that amount of power? i believe JBL suggests 1.5 cubes sealed or 4 cubes ported, I could go either way , preferance would be sealed though, but ultimately, just want the most slam I can get
  8. it would be 150 x 2 up front at 4 ohms and the 1000 in the back so 1300 watts total the concern has sprung because forum members here have stated the value of good electrical and so I'm still learning
  9. head unit is Clarion CZ309, preamp voltage is 2 volts i think stock alt is around 138amps, no sub yet, ones I'm looking at will run at either 2 or 3 ohms big three is coming
  10. was wondering the following, I may have an opportunity to purchase one of the following amps used at a good price, JL Slash 500/1 or 1000/1 if I turn down the gain half way on the bigger amp, will it still strain my electrical more than the smaller one?
  11. was looking at possibly getting Hertz High Energy comps up front and possibly coaxials from the same line for the rear using a 4 channel amp (75 watts per...bridged to 150) can someone estimate which setup would be the loudest and possibly if the differences would be substantial or not? 1.front two channels at 75 watts each and rears off head unit power 2.amp bridged to the front comps and rears off head unit power 3.all speakers ff the four channels at 75 watts each also, if I went without the rears in these scenarios...how many db's would I lose roughly? from what I think I'm learning, 3db seems to me the magic number for noticable audible diffeenes
  12. car audio is dead in this town, the once big canadian car audio forum is a graveyard and the shops have closed and are closing faster than ever which leaves us with best buy..or online dealers i wil say there is a ton of used gear around though alot of which is real high end
  13. one of the big problems in my area is sourcing stuff, most of the top shops are out of business and/or carry crappy gear, and I really hate doing the online thing i have no skills and no tools to build a box and all the local builders seem pretty amateur...a custom box shipped to me would be expensive the shop prices are in line with the market....If i had the time skills and tools i'd buy everything used and install myself but i have none of that now I have doubts......anybody local in Toronto can build a box and do an install? that would open alot of the options that have been suggested
  14. Hello, ......so my first foray into this hobby was pretty much a disaster, for my Caddilac Deville I went with a Clarion Deck, pair of infinity coaxials up front, an SDX 12" sub with prefab box, all powered by a 4 channel MTX older amp I purchased used...wiring was from Knu Conceptz....installed at a reputable place and all sounded pretty crappy i then upgraded to clarion sss501's comps in the front...still crappy...then a pair of 12" Image Dynamics ID's in a custom ported...still crappy then my amp and speakers kinda gave up around the same time,...was probably all underpowered so I've researched..and researched and researched...and my new plan is as follows with 2 goals, a) get a decent sounding system and try and learn a bit more about the game A local shop can do Hertz High Eneryg comps in the front for me at a decent price for both install and equipment....same decent enough deals on a pair of amps...either matching 4 and 1 channel Kenwood XR Digitals or for a bit more Hertz HDP 1 and HDP 4 I feel real good about that...lots of praise on those speakers and amps As far as the sub..that part gets tricky....all the shops near me tend to offer great deals on speakers, decks, and amps but not subs, further more, they charge alot for custom boxes that really don't seem to be that all that great and finding a local private box builder has been real tough... the good news, since JL Audio is everywhere around these parts and the shops push the hell out of the w6 and w7 HO Boxes there is a ton of them used at good deals so I was leaning towards one of those and by most accounts...those drivers are pretty good with the majority of complaints I seem to read pertaining solely to pricing...they pop up all the time locally for $400-$500, usually nearly new I think my plan adresses 3 areas of debate that I read about all the time and would like to experience for myself a little 1. Ported vs Sealed.....I would ike to hear the difference and the JL option would allow me to later switch to a sealed box quick and cheap 2. Active vs Passive...again, would like to hear the difference and I could start with passive and then adjust to active down the road with the amps in question 3. Rear fill vs non rear fill....the local shop can drop in hertz coaxials at a later date for cheap Also, regaring the sub option, was considering the following as alternatives, a)the local shop will do a pair of Hertz HX300s in a custom box for around $700 b)I can get a used near mint 15" JBL GTI MKii and also a near mint 15" Digital Designs 2500 series and then have the shop build the box total price would be around $600 your thoughs are all appreciated
  15. I called DD and they recommended the Z91 but it's around $1000, I have no doubt that it meets my criteria but at that price I'm wondering if it would offer increased spl over a pair of Gti's or IDMAX's which would still cost me significantly less
  16. I was thinking either JBL GTi or something from DD
