  1. The little 1x3 that was cut off has smaller squares than the bigger piece. When he cuts the diagonal piece, he's taking the bigger squares, sliding it down to the smaller squares and making a smaller set of squares. The resulting piece is shorter than the original piece. He could keep doing this, but the squares would get smaller. That's what I observed lol
