  1. you gys are thinkin too conventional about this

you dont need a bigger spider you need a new material.

think about a rubber band and ow much it can move from its original size.

a stiffer stronger material that has similar properties should be utilized

a material which can actually expand.

anything is possible if you think hard enough on it.

some things just require insane amounts of thinking that people dont want to do.

things like time travel for instance

A lot more RND is put into new driver technology than you think. And I doubt a car audio company is going to revolutionize loudspeakers suspension systems for the sole fact of a 8 inch high performance spl subwoofer, no disrespect, just saying.

  2. It depends on which coil you have. The ones in my Nightshades are 50mm coils but there were also other different sizes. Iirc there were 42mm, 50mm, and 56mm length coils that were used in the Nightshades. The 46mm coil was in the origional and was the loudest of the 3, the 56mm coil was the long coil option that Jake was offering, and the 50mm coils are the newest that have the vents in them. Only a select few have the vented 50mm coils since the Nightshade is no longer in production.

Appreciate it, so I have the 56mm coil. While I have this thread open might as well ask. Do you know the xmax on the nightshades with long coil/extra spiders?

  3. If its a cracked magnet/top plate then reconing wouldn't help huh? Also, the coils still read close to 2 ohms. Would I need to take apart the sub and have them "rewound" or should I just get a whole new kit? Also, how to check for cracked magnet/top plate?

I doubt its a cracked magnet if its still playing, it's pretty a rare occurrence and the only reason I say that is because when my top plate cracked the sub was completely stiff. If your coil is blown, then you need a recone, if the magnet is cracked, then you pretty much need a whole new sub.
