  1. lol...you could get help for free from experienced box builders here. Dont know why people need to buy designs and shit.

Somehow I feel like I am taking advantage of people if I am having them design me an enclosure "for" my vehicle (he takes vehicle specs and models it) and pay them nothing for their time. I designed my own box at first, and I know how to design a basic enclosure, but I don't know how to model it in the vehicle with resonant frequencies, proper listening angles, etc etc. I just wanted to see if that fee was in line with other designers and see if the difference would be big enough to warrant spending the money.

Thank you guys for your opinions so far, I appreciate it all!

  2. Where did you get the carpeting from?

I got it from best buy actually, was like 10 bucks, bought some spray adhesive and went to town.

first off port area is simply WxH. LxWxH would be port volume. anyway port noise is sorta like whistling kinda noise. think of forcing alot of air through a smallll hole... like blowing real hard on a bendy straw, it whines or whistles. as for damaging the sub.. meh its possible in certain scenarios, but in yours, dont worry about it. like someone else said itll more than likely act like a sealed box (with an admittedly large leak lol). no bog deal. bump it for now untill you can build a better box and they enjoy the improvement in your bumpage and in also learning something

Thanks for the advice bud. When I get some extra time and green I will buy supplies, design a box, and post the design up here BEFORE I start to build, lol.

  3. I am no guru, but I am assuming that you are using .75 mdf, I am also assuming that you are talking about the P2D415 woofers.

Working off of those assumptions the math works out like this:

    39 x 18 x 21 with .75mdf = 6.98242 cu ft.

    6.98242 - sub displacement (0.066 cu ft x2) = 6.85042 cu ft.

Port width and height of 3 and 16.5 with tuning of 32hz = 13.209590389186754 port length.

    all math done with: http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp

  4. Eh, looking at my box design vs the port calculators using a port area of ~ 15, I am seeing that I will have to pretty much scrap my box design for something more square so that I can wrap the port around. Currently my box is tilted in the back, and I am not real sure how to wrap the port around with the way it is designed right now. Thank you guys for all your help, next time I will try to make my design in sketchup and post it before building it so that I don't waste a whole sheet of mdf ><

As far as damage to the sub goes, how would I keep that from happening until I get the time to make a whole new box? Do you think I will cause a whole lot of damage with the amp I am currently using, low end Sony Xplod XM2200GTX?

  5. The length isn't everything you need the right amount of port area for proper tuning.

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but I thought that the port calculator handled all that? You give it 2 numbers and a frequency and it spits out a length? Is there more to it than this? Maybe sometime down the line I will remake the box, I will definitely make the tuning a bit lower, and the port a bit bigger, probably use a circular port.

  6. Well, as promised, I finished my box, here are the pictures:

It sounds nice in my little celica :)

    Things to do:

Try to clean up the port a bit

Get better amp, the xplod is getting extremely hot

Weld in supports to the seat to mount the box to, to help prevent theft, and movement

Thank you guys for all of the help you have given me, I really appreciate it, wouldn't have gotten this far without you :)

  8. you could have done the rectangular version and made different sizes as well

Part of my problem is with my current design 1 of the walls of the port is shared with the box, so if I were to try to make that interchangeable the port wouldn't really be sealed right imo, if i were to move the port over far enough to eliminate that problem then I am looking at a gaping hole in the baffle ><
