  1. i dunno bro....for you to smell a sub it must have a dirty signal or something...or your really overpowering it hard. I can get my subs to smell some too but only after a long time at full tilt and at 2 1/2 times the RMS.

what is the model # of that amp so i can look it up.......i dont know that ive seen a CV amp before. Id like to see what its all about.

its a cerwin vega exl 1200, they have it on their site, its the biggest they make.

  2. I am aware of the power rating, just thought that if it was all turned down that it wouldn't see the 1200rms, and plus volume at 1/2, bass setting all the way down and nob was only at half, do you think that half a turn of the bass nob added that much distortion, that is why I didn't go past half because I know it adds distortion.

  3. I have a 15" fi ssd w/o any options and I have a cerwin vega 1200w amp pushing it and everything is turned down at its lowest setting as far as gains and boosts go, and I haven't turned the radio past half volume. I was bumpin today and and felt the urge to turn the bass nob up just a lil, no more than half way, and I started smelling that sad sad smell of voice coils. I need some input on this, too much amp? bass nob distortion? or is it just not finished breaking in, even though I have played it at least 20+ hours since i have had it just to break it in before I turned it up a lil. Please help me out with some info, preciate it.

This was a quick and temporary setup done in my 97 crown vic, I have the stock 200amp alt (p71 package), kicker 1/0 power and ground, fat mat sound deadener, junky jvc hu, a 1200 rms @ 1ohm cerwin vega amp, and a 15" fi ssd bone stock. The setup does alright and once I upgrade my mids and highs I will get the fully loaded Q and maybe a better amp for both speakers and subs. The box is roughly 4 cubes after sub and port displacement and it's tuned to 33htz, hits really well for such a cheap setup. Please feel free to comment.

  5. I thought that thing was called a "yute", or at least thats what they said in one of the mags I get every month, it ain't the prettiest but I think they were trying to bring back another classic same as they did the gto, and they just did it as cheap as possible too by using an existing design. I think its things like this that help GM financially because they don't have to spend all the extra on prototypes and models and build all new parts.

  6. well this sucks, I also got the shaft on shipping, said it was supposed to be delivered yesterday and nothing, so today I check the tracking number and it just got shipped today and it said it was a week ago, so another week to wait, it had better be well worth it.

  7. Well its pretty gay to say the least all that work for nothing, theres something wrong with the voice coils, it hits but it makes and unbearable scratching sound, a sound I have never heard in my life.

For the record the sub, amp, and everything was wired properly, must be a faulty woofer. Check on multiple amps rewirded and its just bad bad bad bad.

I hate to hear that, I have had the same thing happen to me when I bought a kove armageddon and it was used but I got it for like 40 bucks and it sounded good till half volume and then it roared on a good note, I ended up finishing it off with a wall socket.
