  1. Okay, I will try unplugging the stock amp. The reason I cut the wires is because that us what the installer at my car audio shop said was the only way to do it with the JBL system. he said that there is no harness for that setup. Does anyone know where the stock amp is or of a website that could help me locate it? I know there is one stock amp, but I thought it powered the small stock woofer. Would there be two or is the one in the back the amp I was bypassing and need to unplug?
  2. Powering off the deck. I have a '97 Explorer w/ JBL upgraded sound system. To wire the speakers to the h/u, I had to do some funky shit because of the JBL. I had to cut wires in the passenger's kick and bypass some electronics.
  3. I hear static and music when I am playing something through the aux cable, even when the h/u is muted and is on a different input. Example: I plug my iPod into aux input, play song 1, then turn on h/u and play song 2 on a cd. If I mute the h/u, I can hear song 1. If the iPod is off and h/u is muted, I hear static.
  4. Is it okay for the Aux input and other input cables to run very close to poorly insulated wires for the 4 speakers in my doors? What makes me hear the aux input when everything is muted?
  5. So, you're saying I should check my ground and put the polarities that I changed back to the way they were before? Also, I noticed that if I mute the h/u and played something through the Aux cable, I can hear it very faintly. What would cause this? This also happened at the same time as the static.
  6. Okay, I found that the RCA's to my amp, the AUX input cable, and my iPod direct connect cable are all crossing the power to the cigarette lighter. Would this cause the problem? Also, could this be caused by loose connections on the speakers?
  7. So this is my story and I need someone to tell me what i did wrong and how to fix it... Along time ago (2 months, not that long...), I installed a head unit. I messed up the polarity and wiring for the speakers, but I still rode around with it like that until this afternoon. I finally decided to fix all the messed up stuff, so I opened up the passenger's kick panel, where all the speaker wiring is, and I use a key from the12volt.com and fixed the polarity and stuff. I listened to all the speakers individually, an they each sounded great.Then I came here and read a previous thread of mine and y'all convinced me to put in an inline switch on the remote wire for my amp. So I did that. Then, I was just bored and was messing around with my car, and I decided I would move my iPod cable out of the glove box and into this super-cognito spot. Then, I finally turned on my h/u and listened to it, and I heard a shitload of static. So, I changed the input source to a CD, and the static continued. It is there when it is paused, it is there when it is playing. It sucks. I made sure nothing crossed any power cables and all that. What is causing all this crappy static and how do i fix it. (Sorry for such a longass post. I figure the more info y'all have, the better someone can help me figure out what's wrong.) Peace, Tanner
  8. Yeah, I was actually going to put a switch on the remote wire, which is why I asked if it was enough to protect my amp/subs. Thanks a lot, y'all. I'm off to pick up a switch.
  9. So, I have 2 12's chilling in the trunk of my Explorer, but my car is the only SUV of the family and sometimes, we need the whole trunk to do things. When I want to take the subs out, what do I have to do? I was told that if the amp is getting power/signal and there are no subs hooked up to it, it is awful for the amp. Besides unplugging and removing the subs, what should I unplug on the amp? Do I need to undo the ground and 12v+ wires, or is it legit if I just unplug the remote wire so the amp isn't on?   10. As of November 27, the subs are in. I would post pictures, but the set-up is kinda boring. Nothing spectacular. Thanks for all your help, people of SMD forums.
  11. So, I bought the subs and amp and all that jazz tonight. As I was looking at the diagram for my head unit, I saw that there is this cable call Subwoofer Output. It looks like a white RCA cable. There is no red mate to it or anything. On the actual amp, there are red/white RCAs labeled input and red/white RCAs labled output. What do I plug into the "Subwoofer Output" cable? My understanding of what it does is that it controls the level and such of the subs from the head unit. Thanks an asston, y'all.
  12. Alright, that works. So, just drill through the firewall and use an o-ring to connect the power directly to the battery terminals? Sounds doable (hopefully).
  13. So no burning wires and no way to not hook the power directly into the battery?
  14. So, I was talking to a friend and asked him how he would wire the amp to the battery. He said that there should already be power cables that I should splice the amp power into. He also said that if I ran the amp power directly through the firewall and into the engine compartment, where the battery is, the wiring would burn. Is any of this true? Thanks.
  15. Okay, legit. I think i remember seeing that when I did the h/u install. And I assume there will be a place for the remote cable on amp as well? Thanks a ton, bro.
