  1. Would be cool to bump the AI show to a 2x or 3x.

Oh I know but, it is going to be a long day with SQ in the morning and SPL at night. Not to mention our first time offering it and I'd hate to charge so much for a new format right out the gate. It is a quick ramp up and nothing says by request we couldn't do just a single org event in the future.

I am hoping that one day it will get to the point where will take all day because of the amount of competitors we have just in SPL and not because of SPL and SQ at the same time.

  2. So to officaly announce we have given the go ahead from Moe at IASCA along with Mike Jaffe to be Northern California's IASCA's sanctioned promoter. So this weekend's show in Corcoran will be the last dual org show as the next shows will be triple org shows. Now we have only agreed to promote the SPL portion of IASCA. The SQ side we are not fully capable of doing that. We are however, capable of handling the SQ side of MECA and will be doing that for the remaining shows. I posted three shows today on termpro and as soon as Wayne is back in the Country I will talk to him about adding IASCA to our termpro profile as well bumping the 2nd and 3rd shows up to 2x and 3x status.

  4. Dan is truly an ambassador for this Hobby we all love so much, actually most of our veteran competitors are really. This past weekend at LCCA was fun, wasn’t really there to compete but, to hang out with everyone. I know a lot of people were upset about the date of finals being moved to October and that the location for CA was up in the air again. I heard LCCA has offered the use of their facility for this purpose. If it simply the matter of us having it there Rob and I are more than willing to donate our time again for Finals.

Ray and Kyle thanks for being great multi-org competitors. I truly was moved by your kind words (ask my wife, it brought a tear to my eye). I have not said much online but, believe me I try to keep my ears and eyes open to what is going on. Even at the shows I do not say much but, believe I do listen and try to improve things were we can.

We have really tried to keep the cost down for shops to host shows and that is why the shows are popping up. At first the intentions were to do one show a month. Luckily for the competitors that has changed. Then of course it brings us back to the Finals issue for dB Drag. Majority of the MECA competitors do not plan on attending Finals but, they do it for the state record and of course fun. I really urge my true drag competitors to continue to do it for the same reasons.

Majority Car Audio Competition organizations allow you to track your scores and points through out the year. When I was actively competing I had a membership for IASCA, USACi and dB Drag. When MECA started I was fortunate to help get it off the ground out here as well as competed the first year. MECA is in its 3rd season in CA, IASCA may be coming back and dB Drag has been here for over a decade. There are other formats/organizations that have come and gone.

My point is, dB Drag combined with IASCA and USACi for a one location Finals. As much as the drive may suck, Finals will be off the Hook. Not to mention, when this hobby was at its prime there was only one finals location for all the organization individually. Manufactures will be more inclined to sponsors one Finals location then multiple locations and organizations. Furthermore, as great a show SBN is I understand that it was a logistical nightmare for both competitors and judges.

To all of my old veterans who have been in this for the past decade or more we all know how it use to be. Jim Jean, Rusty and Timmy can all vouche for how crazy Finals were when there was only a single location. I know we have all have fun with it here in CA but, one location may not be such a bad thing for the sport/hobby overall.

I hope we all can move forward and continue to have fun at shows and grow and keep our current competitor base because lets face it is no fun playing by your self (pun intended). It was great not making 129.9 brackets in LCCA (not really) and hope to see more brackets full in Bass Race this weekend.

    FYI!!!!!

    EVERYONE KEEP SEPTEMBER 22ND OPEN.

  5. Thread is titled “Judge Dale……you make the decision”.

I LOL when I saw the title because it sounds like something from People’s Court. Seeing how I keep tabs on this section I knew this can only go in one direction…..to shit!

I am not sure the exact intention of the OP but, I can only see the thread as being negative for the competition scene. Especially for the Northern Cali, California and over all West Coast. That is the last thing we need out here. With dB Drag changing the date of Finals back to October and with the recent new judges in the area (us included) it really makes this region look unstable and hostile.

There a lot of things that are weighed in on the business end of any competition organization and unfortunately, competitors opinions are normally the last. I feel the OP felt the urge to express their side of this story. Others of course have expressed theirs. Since the OP couldn’t restrain themselves from insulting others members of SMD and the competition community this thread needs to be locked. If someone feels I am wrong feel free to man up and start a thread under your name and continue the discussion. However, to come in and stir the pot like this is unacceptable. I will discuss with the Mods about deleting this thread entirely.

  6. 1ST OR 2ND GEN S10?

    You competing with it?

Musically and for decent numbers I always recommend flared ports. For this application I'd run 2 6" flared full lengths and corner load them and woofer firing up. You could do woofer forward and port up. In that configuration I'd use 4 4" flared ports. You'll move a lot of air and sound good but, lose numbers metering. I have lost count how many boxes I've built for my s10 but, my loudest single woofer set up was 1 18" woofer and ports firing up. It sucked for driving around but, it was loud.

Wow ... First time I've ever seen a moderator direct someone to another Car Audio forum for advice ...

    To the op ...

First thing I would do is to scout out a couple of shows in your area and listen to a few Sound Quality vehicles to get a idea what it should sound like ...

Second I would find you a nice headunit with great equalization and crossover capabilities ... Please remember that installtion is just as important as product ...

If I'm not mistaken, you have 6.5" driver locations in your doors ... Start looking for good replacement drivers and possible tweeter location up high near or on your A- pillars ...

Like MichiganCapri said ... CDT is a good brand, so is Blues Car Audio ... my brand of choice ...

Best of luck with your build Sir ... Please keep us posted !!!

And I have PLENTY of Sound Quality information you can read here on SMD ... I will post what I have if you like ...

/\ Number One person to talk to on SMD right there about SQ.

I don't ever send people away from SMD but, sometime you need peek at the grass.

don't start a thread like this until you have read at least a couple builds in a vehicle like yours and two got a basic lay out of equipment you want to use. SQ>SPL as far as attention to details go. Money wise its exactly the same by the time your all said and done. Both can be done on a budget with some used and some old equipment.

  10. DVA-9861 is a nice piece too that I have....fiber optic out as well it is not a dead head but, like all new alpines you can shut down the internal amplifier. I"m not selling it sorry but, just wanted to give some advice if your shopping for an alpine single dvd player. also the 9861 can control alpine's 701 which is a bit out dated but, still a great piece. of course ainet control through out and the 9861 has the ipod direct cable.
