  1. Dont sweat it man... you gotta do what needs done first. As a matter of fact I literally just finished up a deal with a guy. Just had to sell one of my most prized pieces in my gun collection, cause as a family we could use the money for some really nice things for my kids.... So I offed a gun I knew would sell quickly. It sucks and I miss it already, but theres always another toy to buy. Only get one shot at doing right for my kids. :drinks:

  2. I just kept waiting and waiting for him to shoot himself. terrible gun handling, terrible safety, lots of misinformation, lots of telling you shit that aint right...not to mention I was unaware that you can "shoulder" a handgun. I must have a lot of learning left to do. And I love that this dumbass mentions Tex Grubner Outdoors, thats the asswipe that shot himself in the leg practicing close range drawing and weapons retention.

  3. Rusty Duck spray will help clean up the blued metal parts, although from those pics its looks like the finish is pretty beat and would probably truly benefit from a re-bluing to look good again.

You could also clean it up to the best of your abilities, and take some stell wool to it, whatever to clean it up and remove the bluing, and go with a product like duracoat from Lauer weaponry... duracoat is a tough, spray on finish available in just about any color you could imagine. it is east to apply, looks good, and is pretty long lasting.

As for the stock, its only wood...sand it down and re finish it with the product of your choice, stain it whatever color you like, and then poly it. or use something like tounge oil or something similar. hand rubbed oil finishes always look killer on gun stocks.

  4. Theres a rare, limited edition 1911 I want. Called the "Dia De Los Muertos". therr is usually one or 2 floating around the market for sale, but whenever I come across them is when I dont have the cash. When I have the cash, I can never find one for sale with a realistic price.

Also on the list are the FN five-seven, and some sort of really laid out, custom DA revolver in a large magnum caliber, preferably something cutom and along the lines of an "alskan bear gun" or guides revolver.

  5. like the title says.. I know we all like pics, so lets see pics of what you've been carrying the most lately, or what you've been putting the most rounds through recently... or just shit you own...post 'em up

These 2 arent in the safe ever...either gettin carried, shot, or cleaned....They both live in the nightstand.

First up, tried and true 1911, its a Daly EMS series..been shot a hell of a lot..blueing is wearing off and its a little rough from use... but this gun and I have a connection... it always goes bang, is smooth as silk and puts em right were you want, has a trigger job and polished guts...

    1911two.jpg

Its a little heavy, and a little big for some, but I like it. Its with me at work, and on the night stand at night, always cocked n locked unless its getting shot or cleaned.

This is what I shoot the most rounds out of as of late. Its cheap, accurate and fun. 15 bux and you can shoot all day and then some. Rossi model 518 DA in .22LR, adj. sights, definitely a good nuisance critter eliminator and plinking toy..it hard to set this thing down sometimes.

and it is especially fun to shoot these out of it. So so so quiet..I think my boys cap guns are louder...these have no gun powder in them, primer compound only...

  6. The best thing you can do for yourself is go to the range and ask if they have guns that you can shoot and that will help you decide. If you are dead set on 1911 than Rock Island is the WAY to go... Dollar for Dollar the best 1911 available for sub 600 BNIB... In my personal opinion i believe you would be better off with a Glock or Springfield or Kahr... They are all great guns...

Ultimately it will come down to what you want to carry and are comfy with...

Also if you want it for HOME defense only then get FRANGIBLE Ammo... It will take down a human but will not penetrate walls....

If you want hollow points than look into Hornady Critical Defense or CORBON Powr'ball ammo

If you have any further questions hit me up i can help ya or call my uncle and get you a quick answer

Smoke, most of the 1911 talk was to others on here or in general, I dont think Op was considering a or leaning towards one....

And +1 on the ammo recommendations... either is a good choice.

  7. I don't mind people going off topic since it lead to more info. I'd really have to convince my girlfriend for me to get a shotgun since she is afraid of all guns but doesnt mind the pistol lol

Best bet..dont ask her, politely tell her what you are going to buy. Go buy it,andthen take her shooting and teach her to use is properly. Mostpeople that are afraid of guns are afraid of them because of a lack of knowledge, not because of a bad experience, so typically if you can educate someone on the safe useage of a firearm, they will be much more apt to being "cool" with it.

To the OP, if you would like my opinions on what makes a good home defense shotgun, shoot me a message and Ill gladly give you my recomendations and what to stay away from. Again I am no "expert"...but, much the way some of you are with your knowledge of systems, is how I am about guns, and have been for a long time. I carry alot, Ive been shot at, Ive shot at others, and I am somewhat getting into some shooting sports... (theres a gun club around here that hosts a wicked, tactical style shotgun shoot every year, went and watched last year to see what it was about, Ill be shooting in it, and kickin ass n taking names this year....5k shells is a hell of alot of practicing..lol)

  8. Wow i never would have thought this thread would get to 2 pages so fast lol.

ATM I'm not planning on carrying one especially since all the places i go are basically school and work lol.

Got some good advice thanks guys.

I know that..sorry for getting so OT....but if you are purely looking for a home defense gun, and have limited time/experience with pistol shooting/operations... buy a revolver or better yet, buy a 12 ga shotgun. Hr makes a great remington 870 clone that is available through dicks for less than 200 new. A 12ga is hands down the best home defense weapon someone can own. Especially is that someone doesnt own other guns or isnt a shooter...its a whole hell of a lot easier to hit something in the dark with 00buck than with a single bullet. Not to mention a typical round of 00 buck has 9 pellets in it, each one is about the same size as a 380 bullet...and most likely at home defense ranges, all 9 pieces of shot are going into your target...so lets think about that...1 shot with home defense 00 buck= getting shoot 9 times with a handgun, where as getting shot once with a handgun= getting shot once with a handgun. Not to mention the manual of arms is much much less complicated with a shotgun, especially if you were to buy a side x side style... put in 2 shells, close breech, shoot, repeat. bout as simple as it can get. I would definitely not recomend a pistol as your only go to gun, or as your first ever gun, especially if for home defense.

  9. ^^Thats what this place is for man....No problem. And if you have any questions regarding 1911s and what not..feel free to send me a PM... I'm no master gunsmith...but I sure do know an awful lot about 1911s. Its my gun of choice. And for the money, you cant go wrong with a rock island if you want a cheaper 1911, made in phillipines, on tooling that made the original colts no less. They are cast frames, forged slides, have pretty good tolerances, and shoot amazingly well for what they cost.

  10. ... and I love the 1911 just cant afford one the way I want it....

You could just buy one of the lower priced 1911s, like Rock Island armory, Springfield GI model, or the like, and the as you get to know what you want from it, mod it. Alot of simple things like extended thumbsafeties and beaver tail grip safeties are fairly easy to fit to the gun yourself, and just about every big city has a 1911 'smith or 2 for installing things like sights etc...thats how I did my first 1911, started out with a plain jane GI model rock island for 4 bills, and when I waqs done with it, it was every bit as laid out as the nicest Kimber or springfield you can buy. And all said and done, I had less into it then a comparable kimber.

  11. ...And Kimbers aren't pricey 1911s. In the grand scheme of all things 1911, kimbers are merely run of the mill, Dont take that the wrong way, I love kimbers, and im not bashing them (they just arent expensive in 1911 land, hell I have a seriously modded Charles Daly that was like 5 bills new, and has had a grnad worth of aftermarket thrown into it, and its still a cheaper 1911)... You wanna talk pricey 1911s.... go look up Ed brown, Les Baer, Nighthawk, Christensen, SPW, etc.. those are pricey 1911s...Avg cost of above makers is 3 large and up. Those are pricey.

  12. You 2 guys above saying the 1911 isnt a beginners gun..Why is that? Is it because you have to carry it cocked and locked? It is no less safe than a glock, or a revolver for that matter. 1911's have a very redundant safety system... thumb safety must be off, and rear grip safety must be depressed fully before gun can fire. I own several 1911s. I am very proficient with them, and I see nothing wrong with gettin a 1911 as a first hand gun, if it is what you want to buy. Carrying a cocked and locked 1911 is no more dangerous than carrying any other gun. What isnt recomended, is carrying a pistol you are un-familiar with, regardless of make or model. If you have spent time familiarizing yourself with the safe operation of a 1911, you would be fine carrying it. Much like any other gun, dont carry it around and expect it to save your life if you dont know dick about it. 1911 is actually a great beginners gun, if you know what you are talking about. Most pistol shooters can pick up a 1911, and even if theyve never shot one, can hit with it as good or better than what they normally carry. A 1911 has great ergonomics, and can fit any sized hand because of the replaceable grip panels and the choice between flat, or arched mainspring housings.... along with having a very low bore axis, and being available in many different calibers, actually makes it a great platform to learn off of, not to mention the fact that the 1911 is hands down, no questions about it, the most readily customizable gun in the world. You can pick your grips, pick your sights, pick your barrel length(3,4,5,6 inch)and so on and so on... and have exactly what you need for the task you will be using it for, so tell me again why it isnt a good beginners gun? because it can be fit well to your hand, or because it points and shoots so well for many many people, or is it that its only a single stack mag? or is it the .45acp round?. I have found that about 90 percent of the gun guys who say "1911s are dangerous", "1911s arent a good gun for a noob", are typically guys who dont own a 1911, dont carry regularly, or just plain dont know what they are talking about. Sorry to have kinda made a rant there..but I really hate when people spread mis-information around.

  13. Alright, well i know this doesn't help really haha but I was watching youtube and a guy is singing it's normal then completely out of nowhere the bass hits, not like a drop. It's very unpreddictable. Anyone know this song? Or a song like this.

wow...thats one hell of a description there. One time, I heard this song, and this dude was singing about this thing at this place, then this lady all started doing this stuff, then the guy got all mad, and then some people started dancing....remember that time?
