  1. No doubt, some awesome work here! Man I wish I was closer to OK...

And Ray, those doors are gonna be sweet!

I kinda wish now that I had started with an armrest... if you don't do that at first, it's kinda hard to include later on.

Anyway, I will be wrapping my doors soon, and I too can use all the tips and advice I can get. I just sunk almost $200 in vinyl just to take the 10% chance that they can be done seamless. And now I'm starting to second guess myself...

  2. Okay, so I made a trip to find some vinyl, and here is what I found out.

For hard curves such as on my doors, stretch vinyl is needed. And most fabric stores don't carry it, it is a specialty item that must be ordered. And so far, the best that I have found is the 4 way stretch, as mentioned in this post from earlier.

I'm in the same boat your in but I think I going to have mine wrapped professionally (depending on cost). I did a little research and a 4 way stretch vinyl like this http://www.yourautot...om/al4stvi.html is supposed to make the job a lot easier.

So anyway, you were right, this is what I was looking for. And although I bitched about the price on it, in all fairness, it's really not that bad. I just ordered 4 linear yards. And a gallon of DAP Weldwood, this http://www.yourautotrim.com/noname37.html.

    Wish me luck! :ninja:

  3. looks real good steve

Wow, this looks more than just good. It looks freakin great! You have got to be so proud....

And now, thanks to this build, my girl "wants her trunk to be like that" - Which is a big deal considering she is not into systems much.

I told her she better start saving now, cause nothing in this trunk is cheap!

Anyway, great job, as expected. Now I'm really anxious to see what you have in mind for the doors....

  4. Gonna have to be stitched i think.

Maybe a 10% chance i could do it with heat form vinyl. But chances are id fuck up.

Take them to an uhpolstery guy

Okay, not really what I wanted to hear, but in a way it is. Thanks for takin' the time to look at them for me.

So, where do you think the seam will have to be, around the bottom curves?

Also, I forgot to mention this, not sure if it makes any difference, but the outside edge will get covered by the factory panel, like this:

So, what do you think? Still probably gonna need to be stitched?

Also, anyone have any ideas on patterns or designs?

    Again, thanks for your time!!

  5. I'm still up in the air about wrapping them myself, or taking them somewhere. Does anyone know of anyone in/around the Columbus/Cincinnati area that is good?

Lets see a pic of them.

Man, I wish I could afford to just send them to you. Especially after seeing your work...

But anyway, here is the pics you asked for over 6 weeks ago

I had just sprayed them right before taking these pics, they are actually getting pretty smooth now.

Thanks for your time fellas! :drinks:

  6. Depends on how well the panel is prepped.

If its ready for paint then no backing needed.

If it looks ugly and has dimples and un-even spots then get it with close cell foam backing. It will cover most of that but has a padded look.

Like steve used a padded vinyl on his box but hid doors are no foam backing.

That will show you the look difference.

Thanks man, that's exactly what I needed to know. They will be finished for paint, and the look of Steve's doors are exactly what I'm going for.

    Thanks Ray

That way to expensive for vinyl at the fabric store its 5 bucks a yard. thats like one square yard or more, plus they have stuff they are just giving away

Yeah, that is pretty high at $28 a yard. Don't think I'm looking to spend that much, I have all 4 doors to wrap.

+1 thats true too, I prefer the foam backing on doors sometimes because it makes them look softer and comfier, but a thin foam backing like 1/8 thick

Cool, thanks man! Yeah I found a place local that I'm gonna go check out tomorrow.

  7. Hey guys, I am finally getting close to finishing up my door panels, and I want to order some black vinyl to attempt to wrap them with myself. But which vinyl do I need? There are several different choices, and I am not familiar with any of them.

Do I need the fleece backed kind, like this?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/PALMA-AUTOMOTIVE-CONTRACT-VINYLS-19-DIFFERENT-COLORS-/120737308085?pt=US_Fabric&var=&hash=item1c1c811db5

    Or this?

    Or this cheaper one?

Or is there something better out there? Thanks for your time, and help!

  8. Okay, here is what I would do.

First, I would hold off on the dual alt setup. Plan to attempt that later, after all the other build stuff is done.

Then, I'd get a good quality HO alt, either a Mechman or a Singer, or whatever you decide, and do your wiring properly, and you should be good to go for the time being.

Then, I'd get back to work on all the other stuff you got to do :)

    Here is my thinking:

If you have one good alt, and three good batteries, and the proper wiring, than that should be fine for what your using.

Then later, when you have time, you can further explore the possibility of adding the second alt. Then you would have 2 high quality alts.

I'd probably steer clear from the OEM upgrades, you would probably be disappointed.

Although I'm sure it's tempting at those prices, I'd still probably just call Mike!

Hope that helped in some way...

Oh and Snafu, I'll be contacting you soon to make me a relay/ fuse box.
