  1. No need for a locomotive the diesel in them is already a big generator and trains are actually electric. Of course they are 480 volts iirc so the build the amplifiers to take that and were in business.

Well we are close. 390v haha

390v? Those arent American volts. lol

Lol yes they are, volts are volts, no matter what country!

That is a/c output voltage, not dc volts in....

  2. Well its 2:44am and I havent been able to go to sleep, this thumb nail has turned about half black and has this stupid throbbing feeling. Its annoying. So Im on the net seeing what can be done about it, I come across some people on you tube burning holes in there nail lol. Why the hell why not. Its not going to get much worse.

Seems simple enough .Some Rum to sterilize it , hold a safety pin with a set of pliers, hear it up white hot, shove it into your thumb, and here we go lol

When the pin is white hot it melts right through the nail, interesting

    OOOUUUUCCCHHHHH!!!!!!!!

  3. Interesting any testing with a battery?

No testing with an additional battery, but if you look at the numbers it would only help in the situations were the voltage fell below 12.6V, since another battery is just a load to the alternator over 12.6V. We have an additional group 49 AGM battery all charged up and ready for testing. May do some dyno runs on Monday.

Would like to see what the results with your primary battery and a large AGM battery like a XS 3100 ran without a capacitor. This would be a similar set up like a lot of us members would run and see what the numbers would be. Also, stock alt?

Another big battery would only help on the runs where the voltage dropped below 12.6 volts. At least, that is what I'm guessing.

These statements I find the most interesting, and would LOVE to see some experiments to really find out what's helping, and what's not. I thought (probably wrong) that adding more batteries would help strengthen the power supply, not be "just a load to the alternator over 12.6V".

But I trust what you say, it makes sense. It just seems different when setting in a ride with tons of batts. It seems like they help keep the voltage from dropping much at all.

But thank you for showing us these test! Awesome info!

I would like to see the tests on a system running thousands of watts, a few alts, and a shitton of batts. The Tahoe.

I know its totally different than the tests with this tiny setup, but still be interesting to know exactly whats going on.

me too except the only problem is i have 8 amps on 8 coils and my wiring is all nice. I'm not pulling it all apart any time soon and even if i did, its just gonna give me an amp by amp reading. (nothing is strapped, not even a single pair of amps. They are all individual)

anyway, i am planning on trying the AD-1 on all sorts of things. Like Tony said, moving the cap further away from the amp was enough to change the results. Also, forget Amplifiers, don't make me do a "wire shootout"....ill take tests @ 50 ft , 10 and maybe 18" or something like that and see what brand delivers the most power. Ill even toss welding cable in the mix. The Dyno isn't just about your amp making or not making power, lots of things can be a factor :D Don't make me do a battery battle too if you catch my drift....do they even make those pretty blue things anymore?

Oooohhhhhh I'm tuned in, cant wait!

  4. I just went to set the DVR, can't seem to find it. Is it channel 284 on DTV?

EDIT: Nvmd, it's tomorrow(Sat.) at 10pm. Got it!

    Awesome!!!

And it is ch. 284 on directv! :)

like i said though my bro, i am not 100% sure what date MY episode airs....the show itself starts running tomorrow, but as for mine, just not sure. :D Sooner or later though!

Yes sir I got it set to record the whole series, so I wont miss it!

  5. Man, I went thru all 47 pages of the previous build log earlier today, and I gotta say, I don't feel near as bad now for taking so long with mine! ;)
Although you were bustin out a lot of work in between...
If anyone has not read it, or just don't remember like me, then you should really go back and check it out.
This car has came a long way from the day you got it back from the theft. Very cool build!

And I like how your son was helping work on it all the way back in 2006, that makes it even more cool! Wish I could get my son into this hobby...

  6. I noticed a little while back that almost none of my pictures are showing up on my build logs. :(

I have always used facebook, and never had any problems until now. I checked there, and all of my pics are still up. Just not here.

So is there any chance that maybe they changed the links? Or is this something to do with this site?

I'm just bummed, since I had 3 different build logs, with LOTS of pics and descriptions. Spent a lot of time on it, I'd hate to lose it all..

So anyone got anything (hope) for me on this issue? Here are the links to my bl's and my facebook...
