Let me also add that the run was done totally sealed. And for the guys who aren't familiar with Bass Boxing, that score was the average of 30 seconds on music.
I don't know what's going on with my arm in that pic?
-
It was a 157.5 @ 25hz.
-
Won't be able to do it this week. Should be able to next week though.
-
No need for a clutch on the pulley. It's computer controlled. I hated the factory electrical in my Yukon cause of that. It then hated me after installing a second non-computer controlled alt. Ecu kept freakin out.
-
No isolator here. Thats the voltage regulator.
-
What do you need?
-
There's a few of us from Sumter. Time really is short this week but I'll see what I can do.
-
Yes I still do decals.

You're gonna need a clamp meter to measure amperage output. Then you're gonna need a good way to put a load on the system. Clamp the alternators separately. Any extra batteries in the system should be disconnected also.

Just got my new 300a alternator from MechMan. Matt has been great to work with. Super fast shipping. This will be an install log of this monster alternator going into my 1993 Ford Explorer 4.0L. Currently there is an XS Power d3100 under the hood and one in the back. The system consists of a Sundown Audio sax-100.4 for the doors and a pair of Sundown saz-3500s @ 0.5ohm each powering a pair of Sundown Z v.2 12"s.
Start by removing the intake duct.
Once it's out the way there is plenty of room to get to the alternator.
Next thing is remove the belt.
There are three mounting bolts. Unbolt those, undo the plugs, and unbolt the battery wire from the back of the alternator.
Here's a few pics of the stock 95a alternator next to the MechMan 300a.
Here you can see the dedicated grounding stud.
Notice the much smaller pulley. Helps keep output up at idle.
Close up shot of the larger than stock + stud and dedicated grounding point.
Now simply reverse the steps above to install the new alternator.
TESTING:
Using a single saz-3500 @ 0.25ohm as a load on the system we clamped 180a of current @ 14.9v from the alternator at idle which is between 600-700rpms. At 1500rpm we clamped 250a @ 14.9v with absolutely zero voltage drop. A single amplifier @ 0.25ohm just wasn't enough of a load to get full output from the alternator.
Just before leaving I got my second amp installed and hooked up. Won't get any more clamp testing done until tomorrow but cruising home with the volume full tilt playing music the voltage held up great. Worst voltage drop was into the mid 13v range on hard bass notes.

That's Egg. He's cool. Goes by Spl140.2 online or something like that.

I did a little testing yesterday... got rated power at 11.3v / 0.95 actual load.
I blew up two of my bench supplies last week so only had one running + my 4 year old Wal-Mart deep cycles so it doesn't hold voltage the greatest right now
Need to get it in a car.
Depending on how next week goes I might get to drive up. We can throw it in the Explorer for some good 12-15v testing.

I would come finish it off for ya but me thinks you need to get your hands dirty a little more. That & the fact that I would have a severe allergy attack from all the dust collected on that thing.
-
what ever happened to this?
this truck is a big turd. its just chillin at the shop collecting dust.
^That pretty much sums it up.
-
It's the weekend & last I heard he was out of town.
-
dayummm, das hot. Who do I have to kill for a sticker?
Come down to SBN & I'll have a decal for you.
-
Fyi: This is the one from the cracked windshield vid.
-
Your Team Sundown decal is crooked. We must fix that asap.
-
Gary Fletcher's 159.4 was sealed on the dash.
-
This was a Meca event.
-
Brandon goes by qcguy on here.
-
Brandon is as legit as it gets. He'll get you hooked up.
-
With the sae-1200s you would have one amp on each coil at 2ohms and wouldn't be seeing full power. You'd be better off with the saz-2000.
-
I'll have to do more testing and get back to you. This setup is tuned too high for sound quality. Because of my sub par electrical I never got into them hard with the two amps @ 0.5ohm. They take one saz-3500d at 1ohm like it's nothing. I have no doubt that they'll handle the pair @ 0.5 thermally as these subs have an insanely good cooling design. I would not consider these spl subs at all. More like a daily sub that gets loud.
Thanks to Sundown !!!!Jacob and Brandon !!!
in Sundown Audio - GREAT Amps/Subs! GREAT Customer Service!
