Also if I ever read of someone setting their gains by ear again I'm gonna drive to their house and whack them over the head with one of these.
me too!

I can't drink yet

the way you glassed those pods makes it look pretty damn easy. looks good
i'm new to this speaker pod building thing but it actually was pretty easy, the hard part is putting bondo on them then sanding it down to get that perfect smooth surface ready for paint, that's very time consuming
-
looks great so far
thanks man, just trying to get people to recognize the kind of work we do here at my dad's shop

Got some more work done

Well here I am doing a build log of my friends maxima, it's going to be running two Skar Audio VVX 12's in a ported box in the trunk on a planet audio 1475rms at 1 ohm monoblock amp. For speakers it has Lanzar 6.5 coaxials in the front and rear doors 125rms per speaker. On the rear deck it has pioneer 3-way 6x9's. Here are a few pics of the speakers pods we are making for them. Will post more pics of the build as we finish it up, stay tuned in for the final product!

congrats bro! I still have 2 years left. gotta make the best of it b4 I get into the real world lol

holy shit talk about sunroof flex!

No one likes kicker these days but i love my Solo X 10"s
I like kicker, look at my build log of two CVX 12's in a ported box behind the third row seats of a honda pilot, kicker subs really like polyfill. get's loud as fuck!!

No, it is simply the T3 TSNS 10. That video is of Kryptonite's woofer, he is a member here.
ohh ok, do you know of any 10" woofer that's beefier than the TSNS?
-
I love how the magnet is more than 10" how the hell do you build a box for that?
-
Teh Kryptonite Edition!
is that the 5000 rms rated one?
-
if i remember right, didnt they actually rate the tsns 10 at more like 3500 rms because of suspension or other issues which would prevent it form safely handling the full 5000 like the tsns
I stand corrected I guess it's rated at 3750rms but still there's no TSNS 10" on T3's website anyway but here's a little video
-
I just want to get a sub that can handle 5000+ rms daily.
the only ten that I know of that is rated at 5000 rms daily is the t3 audio tsns, beast little sub!
This may get some interesting replies. JD ftw?
correct me if i'm wrong lol i would like to know about more powerful 10"s also

Anything with Sundown Audio gets an A+ from me

I would go with number 5, 8 18's

Box size has alot to do with mechanical power handling. If you are going to be pushing your woofer beyond it's rated RMS power you need to be very mindful of this fact and put the woofer in no larger than the minimum suggested enclosure for music program.
We design our woofers for very small enclosures and power ratings are there for a reason -- you can continue to push a driver like the SA-8 beyond RMS power and it will not be stressed whatsoever thermally by the time you can cause mechanical issues. The motor, especially on the SA-8, is VERY strong -- being an 8" driver there is limited mechanical throw available. The driver retains high motor force all the way up to the point where you can start breaking it.
In any event... based on my testing so far you can expect something like the following on mechanical power handling vs. ported box size on the SA-8 :
1.25 cubic feet = 300 watts
1.00 cubic feet = 400 watts
0.8 cubic feet = ~450-500 watts
0.6 cubic feet = ~500-600 watts
You may ALSO need a subsonic filter depending on box tuning. The rated RMS power is 400 watts RMS -- if you push past that you are voiding warranty coverage. We are bringing in re-cone parts and they can be fixed, though, for those of you who like to push things. If you have any doubts about your ability to monitor your listening habits just stick to the 0.60 recommendation.
To re-iterate... they are not fragile. I have ton ALOT of testing on them with enormous amounts of power -- the above considers full bandwidth music program that can drop to very low frequencies and is a safe suggestion.
If you are an SPL competitor then you probably already know this and these suggestions don't really apply for burps @ tuning. We have put in excess of 600% of RMS power on them for SPL burps.
do these recommendations also apply for the SA-10 and SA-12 but with a little bit higher sizes or does it change dramatically for the SA-10 and SA-12, and would it make a difference in what box sizes to use if you have it ported or sealed?

well the two guys that did these speaker pods have been working with car audio for 20 years so they know what they're doing, I did my own at the same time, it's pretty easy if you have someone to guide you through all the right steps
