  1. Okay, boys. Stop strokin' your hard-ons. Can we stick to the subject, please?
  2. I have a large knowledge base about electrical systems, subs, etc. I have an accessible o-scope, so over-setting the gains is not an issue. The size enclosure I planned to make was going to be in the 4 cuft area tuned to around 34 hz. (Any input on aeroports?) I know when a sub is being pushed beyond it's limits, I just want to know what the DC can realistically take, as I've never heard of them until I joined the SMD forums. As well, I just happen to stumble over the T3 T.2000 last night while browsing the internet. Would anyone recommend the T3 over DC or vice-versa? Thanks.
  3. I'm willing to spend what I have to for the amp. Money isn't a huge issue. I've got all the gear I really need, it's just a matter of swapping out the sub, fabbing a new enclosure, and finding what amp to purchase. Kind of curious what amp people have been running them on. I hear some people pushing as much as 2x the rated power to the sub, whereas others run it below rms.
  4. Have big 3 done. Enclosure I will be custom fabbing for the sub (Have a 15" ported now). Getting at least 2 Kinetik KHC1800s for the rear and a 1400 up front regardless of what I get. Will get more if needed. I want a big, bad sub that comes in a small package. Just wondering what amp would be best for the XL. As well as any other necessary upgrades I must do, I will do.
  5. So I've been doing alot of thinking, lately, and I think I've finally come to the conclusion I want to upgrade my old Cadence system. I've been looking at (And drooling over) the DC level fours and XL's. I think I want a single 10" XL or Level Four. The only thing I'm wondering about is what would be the best amplifier (For the price) to power either sufficiently? I won't ever really be doing burps. Just music. (Live in a small town up in North Dakota. The comps here rarely do burps.) So I don't need an amp that's going to throw 10,000rms at it for a burp. Just one that's going to make it pound like a beast daily. Thanks in advance!
  6. I have to take off my car's back panel where the trunk latches to get my enclosure in/out. It's the biggest pain the butt I have ever dealt with.
  7. ^^x2. You're going to want an extra battery in the back regardless of the alternator or not. Might as well do it first to hopefully prevent having to get an alt.
  8. How is that relevant? Any subwoofer size in the right box can "Play lows". To the OP now, like everyone else said, you can fit two 15's in there perfectly, and would personally suggest that way to go. If you REALLY want an 18", have the sub facing up, and the port on the bottom of the box facing toward an area with open area to get some air movement.
  9. Well the major thing about ported is you can tune it to a certain frequency, and get more SPL, or better lows out of it, whereas a sealed isn't going to have those advantages. As well, sealed usually seems to "Punch" a little bit harder (As there's air cushioning the back of it) and is a little more crisp. IF you're into alot of rock, metal, etc, sealed will definitely seam cleaner, although ported can be made louder.
  10. Gross I believe means total box area. NET is ACTUAL box area after you remove port displacement. And although Kranny suggests bigger, the Alpine Type-R specs actually shows 1.7 gross, or 1.3 NET. As well, the recommended tuning frequency is 33hz I believe. Longer ports are always better to hit the lows.
  11. What everyone else said ^^. Mixing subs is never a good idea. Seeing as you have 4 12" subs fit in your vehicle (Or house?) I'd suggest selling them, and getting 2-3 matching 12's or (2)15's.
  12. Thanks guys for your replies (Although both are vastly different). Do you happen to have any suggestions on what to get for around $150-$200?
  13. So here's the thing... I've been looking around for some 15" subs and came across a Power Acoustik MOFO 15"... I've personally never been a huge fan of PA, but after seeing some of the videos, that thing seems to pound like a MOFO for the price. I guess the title is pretty given. I've also heard of people giving it 2kw rms. Does anyone have any input on how good it REALLY is? SQ for a daily driver on it decent? Any other subs around the same price you'd recommend over it that would be better for SPL? (Forgot to mention, I'm all about SPL, but I want a sub that's at least listenable to on solid music.) Thanks in advance, guys.
