  1. @pstone, thank you, im hoping this will be the last install in this car so im trying to make sure its perfect

@cortez, that box sounds interesting, i may hit you up on that, as far as sub stage im not 100% sure what my substage will be just yet, been kickin around a few ideas with a good friend and am leaning toward a dc xl 10", or maybe a pair of lvl 3 10"s, hell i even like the aq subs too so who knows, the amp im really unsure of right now but it will be between 1500-2200w or somewhere there abouts.

im getting the electricals all fixed up before i get the substage decided on and put in. i think it will be easier to decide what i want and need depending on where my final voltage ends up ect ect. i dont wanna out power my car and tear up a bunch of nice gear, as stated abocve im hoping this will be the last install in this car.

as far as engines ill be keeping the staight six and will probly end up at a final rear wheel HP around 350-400 if im lucky. but this car is my daily and does 80mi a day and has been for years so again i dont want to out power the car. plus im old now and drive like a grandma everywhere i go anyway haha.

  2. now on to my install of my new amplifier. i decided to go with a rockford fosgate t4004(grey box) still with the kenwood deck and polk db coax speakers, no sub or sub amp just yet.

after a ton of tinkering and failed experiments i was left with this wiring mess

    IMG_0415.jpg

this of course this is unacceptable. so i ordered upgraded wires and off i went

ran my new speaker wires and pulled out all the mess and got this

    IMG_0421.jpg

power ground on the driver side

    IMG_0432.jpg

rca's and remote wire on the passenger side, trying to follow factory wiring as best as possible

    IMG_0438.jpg

    IMG_0437.jpg

after getting wires set where i want i was able to get some panels back in

thats where im at now, while i concentrate on moving and deciding on what sub amp combo ill use and what alt to go with and weather or not to run a missing link or not....

  3. i have an 89 toyota supra turbo that i previously had a soundstrem 405s 5ch running on a kenwood excelon x994(i think) and pushing a set of polk db501s and a set of db651s and a sundown sa-8. for some reason or another i broke the sub then shortly behind it the amp went too. i started to wonder if i didnt have an electrical issue and so everything gets pulled out and we begin "round 2" i will be thinking harder and planning better along with making sure the car can handle the "2" amp set up ill be running this time.

    starting with my big 3

  4. ive actually upgraded to 6.5 in the door already but they sit funny and im thinking a well mounted 5ish might actaully provide better sound. here is what i mean....

the smaller speaker is boxed the lager is open in back

    IMG00028-20110303-1308.jpg

    proper speaker proper mount

    IMG00024-20110301-1807.jpg

bigger speaker proper mounts for a 92 door not for 89

    IMG00029-20110303-1352.jpg

    IMG00031-20110303-1401.jpg

    IMG00030-20110303-1400.jpg

do you think a proper mounted five would be better??

glassing is a non option in this car as i cant figure out how to do it without it being awkward looking...ideas thoughts?

  5. id go morel of polk any day, thats my personal preference though, id say morel has much better standing in the SQ realm than polk

looking price wise i could probly do the morel tempo series for not a touch more than the polks. that will probly be the way to go

also ive got 6.5 all around now but my fronts are tucked a way i dont care for too much. the factory speaks were in enclosures but only a 4". im thinking of maybe going to a 5-5.25" component in the front and modding the factory " box" do you think i would get better sound that way? can provide pics if needed. the factory fours just didnt offer enough sound.

  6. ok 89 supra currently has kenwood kdc-x994 4x 6.5" polk db651 to open air(doors) two boxed in pods(rears) also have a soundstream reference 405s five channel. well it seems my amp is dying and i was looking for new stuff anyway but the time is much more near than expected. what i wanted to do ultimately was get the

    4x polk mm651 about $100 a set

    1 or 2 sundown sa8s

    these will be powered by

polk audio pa1100.5 around $375 ish

    also want to put in

    2x jl audio 6w3v3 d4ohm around $100 ish each

    powered by a

    polk pa400.1 around 150/170 ish

but upon thinking about that ill end up doing a near complete rebuild i started to wonder what else was out there for the same cost.

any thoughts would be great, idle love to get the best i can for the price...

now what im after is a good daily driven car that leans more towards SQ but not really, but deffinatly not a SPL but i do like to pound on occasion, i really want to have a great sounding stereo for any music imaginable without tweeking setting every time i change genre. i listen to lots of rock and lots and lots of talk radio but a bit of rap and little country. i just want it to be good all the time if i can. thoughts? ideas? ridicule?

    thanks in advance.

  7. yeah i would think so too but I'm reading a lot of things where people are saying they aren't even close, but the nx5 is only 350ish new so it seems pretty decent if it delivers.

    The NX5 will deliver 120 x 4 @ 4 ohm stereo and 800 x 1 at 1 ohm mono...

For reviews please google the NX5 as there are lots of reviews and talk about the Nano Series.

For one in particular on NX5 look at http://www.caraudio.com/forums/amplifier-reviews/496920-massive-audio-nano-amplifiers-nx5-nx4-n2-review.html

Don't Follow The Herd, Be Heard!

yes I've read a lot of good stuff for sure and I've read some bad but the bad seem to be nitpicking it for some reason, another question is can this amp do .5 ohm? and if so how would it handle it heat wise as that seems to be the biggest complaint with this amp.

  8. hmm weird, the nx5 is got some pretty big numbers in a small footprint and I've found them pretty cheap. just didn't know if it would be worth the cash or not, i love the look and the potential if the numbers are anywhere near what it says.

  9. a friend of mine in the supra world is raving about the massive audio nx5 amp, and massive audio in general, but I've never heard of them. does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the brand or amp in particular? i like the stats on it and the price seems ok. reviews that I've found are good too, but I'm still not sold on it.
