I would say yes you can run it, but i would advise not to unless you keep the gain at a moderate level. however, i do admit that i don't have alot of experience (beside what i see on this forum) with that DC 270xp... so if its as good as it sounds you may actually be ok. just get a 3100 and be done with it imo

i think how much they handle depends on the box. i had a friend put a type x in an spl box he had left over from a fully loaded FI bl, and he blew the type x on 1200watts rms.
