  1. AAA doesn't come out and bring a spare, so you will be towed to the nearest service station, been there and done that

run flats are good, but 50 miles and if you are traveling you will still be screwed

no need to hinge anything in the well. you can easily cut the section of the well out, toss a sheet of steel in and mount the spare under it, a threaded rod with the lug nut would hold it steady. it is better to be safe then sorry

I work on a lot of MB's and Porsche's that do not have a spare, but a tube of goo and an air compressor, talked about ticked off customers... most of the time the customer drives a bit and it either breaks the bead, destroys the side wall, or has a bent rim which won't hold air

also the steel plate can be welded in or glued in with the body glue that Chrysler uses a lot on their panel replacements. remember to get a pretty thick piece because you will putting pressures on it from the weight of the tire and also from the vehicle traveling/bumps

  2. where should they go then in your opinion?

several vehicle makes have them in the front door, so I am not saying they do not belong in the door, just your application which will require metal removal to get them in unless you are going to build some big goofy pod.

Most 6x9's are mounted in the rear deck for some midbass response. though it usually throws the whole audio system off.

I think that if you do attempt this, forget the top of the door install and aim for the bottom section of it.

  3. no need to bag on him, he's tryin something new and if he wants 6x9s then hes gonna use 6x9s

    He stated

    all suggestions welcome thanks

please tell me that we don't have to have a group hug before we post. I have been around for a pretty long time around 12v and home audio, and when I see something stupid or great I will comment on it. Positive, negative, or offer advice. Or would you rather me blow smoke up someone's arse?

the OP would get better sound by getting some cheap 6x9 boxes and tossing them on his dashboard. Or do you think a 6x9 playing at your elbow is great sound? then we can go round and round about the time and effort to "fiberglass in" the 6x9 which would include about $120 minimal investment in FG products.

As a professional in the industry, should I encourage misplacement of speakers, installation methods, crap equipment, hack shops, hack jobs, piss poor installers and piss poor installations? Should I be just thankful they bought some gear from someone? sorry but I can't do it.

Regardless it is the OP's vehicle, I do not own it nor the equipment, it is his choice, but would be counter productive to the over all sound.

He is in college, when he graduates with his new found education, he can reflect on the moment and say that it was a waste of time and money. Then he can be off to make his fortune and fame.

I hope that clarifies my opinion

  4. is that the layout with 2 speakers in the door? it looks hideous. why waste the time with 6x9's and not a set of quality speakers?

the whole door panel seems easy enough to build out and wrap in a single piece of material, but if you don't have suede throughout the vehicle or consider the lines blending from the dash to the door, kick panel to the door, door to sill, door to B pillar, then it is going to look like you took your vehicle to a plumber to install.

  5. OK, you can remove that radio if you want but your info in SID will cease for the audio portion of it... no big loss. as for the retaining SID for everything else, on the radio harness, pins 17&18 grn and wht, loop them together as they are your IBUS info from the SID. The steering wheel controls are interfaced with your horn, which is a straight ground, the buttons are resistor base and you could re-use them with a PAC SWI-X controller or a SWI-X Jack, I would probably grab the IBUS wire at the SID, looks like it was blue at pin 22

I don't know if there is a kit, but if you want to get crazy with it, remove the SID and the AC panel and repaint all together with the new kit

    and there you have it
