Hang on. You're running a 13 and 2 10s at the same time and wondering why it sounded like ass? Are they in the same box?
No they aint in same box the 13 is running off the JL 1000/1 in its own ported box at 31hz and the 2 10's are each in there own box 1 on each side of the 13 wired at 2ohms on a JL 500/1
its hard mix matching sub sizes and sealed and ported enclosures. youll get cancellation most of the time. better to get one good bass sub setup, then some like 8s or something if you really wanna hit the mids.
Yeah I wondered about mix matching like that BY the way the 2 10's are in ported boxs at 30hz.. But I figured the 10's would be hitting the notes the 13 really wouldnt so best of both worlds right but maybe not but that was my thinking) I already know Im getting new battery now but Im now thinking about selling the 2 10's in theyre old sealed box with the 500/1 Ill wait and see when i get batteries in.. Im damn near back at square one again
well if the 10s are in a 30hz box and the 13 is in a 31 hz box they are gonna be peaking about the same note/same freq, if the tens were tuned to 50-60 they would be able to pick up the mid notes a lot better, just not a lot of people do it because its basically more work than its worth. its all in how the box is tuned, you just dont see it done much.
Tru that was the last thing I could think of other then the electrical was the box building Im not a pro by any means and I built my own boxs I had a guy I know thats real good with building boxs look at mine and he said he thinks the ports were to small on all of them but didnt know until he knew the exact measurements said they was built good but maybe off in port area and figures i lost my piece of paper with measurements on it

Who done did your install???

Also Im not in my truck bumping for hours at a time 20-30 mins here and there not always all out either I like good quality music instead of the all bass no music.. not hating on nobody but I love good sound quality something you can ride in for an hour without getting a headache or ears bleeding from some screwed up setup you feel me

well Wood let me ask you this since I already have a stinger battery for the back and I can get the battery cheaper(know a battery guy now) then the ALT probably.. would it better to go that route then.. like I said Ill be able to get an ALT in 2-3 months tops
-
alt, if you can afford it, always get an alt first.
just my opinion. id rather have a steady 14.4 than a steady 12.9.
I would almost always get batteries first. Reserve>charging.
Although the 2 work hand in hand, you can't charge your amp with your alt so I will almost always get barreled first, as your alt splits it's amperage between the batteries it's charging if I'm not mistaken, just takes a little longer to charge them to full capacity.
thats not how it works. if your alt can keep up you wont need a "reserve" batteries dont run at 14 volts, they run at twelve and charge at 14.
amps make more power at 14 volts than at 12. in normal situations your car should run COMPLETELY off the alternator and only use the battery for starting.
Well I do have all JL amps slash series and they supposedly put out same watts from 14 to 11.5 volts I do believe.. If that helps you out

how bad is your voltage drop right now?
Dont listen to kranny, he bought an alt of ebay
you should be able to get away with just a new battery.. do the big 3 deep cycle battery should be good
Haha I damn sure wont buy an alt off ebay no offense Kranny.. but I was burnt once off ebay never again.. Have you or anybody you know done the big 3 on a 2000 F150 wondering how difficult it is damn sure dont want to be cutting into the wrong wires.. I do appreciate the help and quick responses guys

how bad is your voltage drop right now?
I havent checked that yet it was getting to dark and mosquitos was out pissing me off hahaha but all I have is a cheap DMM not sure how accurate it is so Im not sure yet.. but if this helps I turned the radio on for 10 secs maybe 20 tops (engine not running) to see if everything powered up right and when I went to crank my truck it barely started

Should I get New Alt or battery?
Ok so I have a question about getting a new battery(xs d3400) or H/O alt.. I have a 2000 Ford F150 xt cab... Im running a 2500 watt system( JL 1000/1 on 13w6,,JL 500/1 on two 10w3,, and a JL 300/4 on highs and mids... I know thats not 2500 watts but gives me a little room to play with because my highs and mids aint doing the job right now.. I have a stinger battery Im going to put in back but I havent done it yet not sure how to hook it up yet(under hood batt + to + on back batt and same with - to - or ground back batt to frame???)... But anyway I hooked it all up today(except stinger batt) and it sounds like SH&* the 13w6 sounded way better by itself so Im guessing its all not getting enough power... by the way I am running 0awg wire from battery under hood... but it is a cheap $90 dollar battery I bought 3-4 years ago from Autozone when I was only running a 700 watt system... So my question is can I get a xs d3400 battery under hood and put the stinger battery in back and run all my stuff off stinger batt without getting a H/O alt?????(my alt is stock by the way) would that fix the problem or am I ultimately going to have to get new alt(not a problem but alt would have to wait 2 months) ALSO I DO NOT HAVE THE BIG 3 done Im a little scared to do it( I do understand BIG 3 would help out alot but id rather pay a mechanic to work on my truck so if they screw it up there fixing it if I screw it up Im SOL)... Please chime in any advice would help... like i said I dont mind getting new alt in 2 months but cant afford to do both right now...

check out the Alpine cde 123 its one Ive been looking at think its around $200 has bluetooth,, Ipod connects on front and back looks like a solid deck seen it on Crutchfield.com

yo man what kind of undercoating did you use? I want to use it on my boxs and by the way I got 2000 F150 doing a JL build also u sealed or ported
-
ok man so i just finished my sealed box for 13w6 and must say I like it better.. more solid crisper bass.. the ported box may of been a little and i mean a little louder on a few notes but overall I like the sealed better.. But im one of those people who worry about what it sounds like on the inside of my truck instead of the outside but my neighbor did come over and he said i was rattling more shit in his house with the sealed then the ported.. just wanted to get back with you and let you know my results but everybody is different.. hope this helped and good luck
-
to be honest man id go with sealed box I got a 13w6 in a ported box and it will hit them low notes good but not to happy with all the other notes it plays.. I also have 2 10w3v3 in sealed box and I couldnt be happier for 10s Im getting ready to put the 13w6 in sealed box today or tomorrow I like more SQ then a couple loud notes out of a ported box and if they dont build the ported box right it will sound like shit
My girlfriends brother has 2 12w6's in a sealed box on an elemental amp and it gets loud, and has pretty good sq, there are some notes his subs cant hit though. im wondering if mine would be able to hit lower notes in a sealed box, or if i should just go with a ported. The guy at the shop who is building the box does a good job, ive seen his work before and people are rarely left dissapointed so im not worried about the ported box turning out wrong. I just want to be able to hit lows and it be loud.
yeah my brother has a 12w6 in a ported box and it knocks I built a ported box for my boys 2 rockford fosgate 12 HX2 and his shit beats both of them have SUVs I built a ported box for my 13w6 at 32hz and to be honest I dont like it.. my 2 10w3 sound better and they are in sealed box and trust me youll get low deep bass in sealed enclosures. If you have the room and a SUV go ported but I believe all my JLs sound better in sealed boxs but Im in a truck by the way all I have is JL products JL 1000/1 on 13w6 500/1 on 2 10w3v3 and getting my JL 300/4 fixed for highs and mids.. so really its if you want SQ (sound quality) which is what JL is made for except the w7 go sealed My opinion anyway people will argue ported vs sealed for days its what you want a few Loud notes go ported a nice crisp bass also gets low go sealed plus you can damage the sub in ported box alot easier

Thought so..
Well find out how much the amp puts out and then use the formula.
But by using a dmm you can never know if it clips or not.
At what volume do you set the gain?(on the HU)
I have a Alpine cda 105 and it goes up to 35 but I usually have it around 21 no higher then 22 so i set amps with it at 21

Or, you could check out the DSO Nano...this is what I'm debating on getting.
I was just looking at the DSO NANO but its from china and its probably a piece of crap.. but Im looking at a Velleman on ebay quite a few of them on there would like to get some opinions on them though
"Made In China" I'm pretty sure the chinese are the ones who founded this technology to begin with...not to mention they just simply makes electronics easier to use. But, thats your opinion.
was mainly talking about that $80 dso nano probably being a piece of crap cant imagine its as accurate as the tpi 440

You can check out the Velleman o-scope. Its very affordable. I think I paid like $140 for mine. I wanted the TPI 440 but I couldn't afford it.
yo how do you like that velleman oscilloscope is it good and is it fairly easy to use

cool thanks guys really appreciate it

Probably yes.
But how did you set your gains?
Half gain doesn't mean half power, you could be clipping..
well I set all my JL amps up with a DMM my JL 1000/1 doesn't clip until 44.7v and my JL 500/1 clips at 31.6v both at 2 ohm.. but Im not sure where my Polk Audio PA 500.4 amp clips at.. I got an Alpine cda 105 head unit and not sure how to check clipping on that either.. I do have a test tone CD from JL as all the stuff in my truck is JL except for polk amp and Mb quart RSI 216 components.. also when im checking for clipping on my JL amps should I have the head unit Alpine cda 105 Sub Woofer level at 0 or + 15 because when its at 0 my JL 1000/1 the gain will go all the way up without clipping ..I know the rest of stuff bass treble set at 0 loudness off etc please help Im lost
Do you use a oscope to set the gains? Or a dmm?
Alpine Hu's don't like to be turned up too much, they will clip easily.
Subwoofer level has to be at +15
I use DMM to set gains on my JL amps I dont have a oscope too damn expensive to use once
