I guess I am not your average newbe...I competed and won what I believe was the first (could have been the second) DB Drag Nationals in Dallas when it was still ran with the IASCA finals. I competed in the 0-500 watt consumer class with a 250 watt car(yes they were cheater amps but what wasnt then?)I actually left the event thinking I got second in the finals but a week later I got a call from the officials and they said the winner was a pro and was in the wrong class so he was DQ'd and I was the winner...yeah kinda anti-climatic I know, but a National champ none the less. I hit 152db which by today is nothing but in 1994 when the record was 157 something (a little yellow blazer you all may have heard of) a 152 was no minor thing. Well my son was born that same year and you know the rest of the story...
Well what got me to this board is my son came to me the other day and ask "Dad can we build me a system?"...my response "What the hell took you so long"...
So to my questions. I have decided to go with 4 15 kicker L7's(already have them). I have heard a few people say they are very loud but dont sound that great but I figure it comes down to box design which is my question ,is there anyone out there that will design a box for me? Paid of coarse I am just from the day when sealed boxes were the way to go and I know nothing of port design.
I was also going to run a Kicker 650.4 for the mids and highs(already have it) and a zx2500.1 on the 15's (don't have it) I thought about getting on ebay and trying to find a vlx 200 but then the batteries and alts it took to keep mine running would push this over budget.(mom has a good memory and is watching closley..lol) Are there any suggestions on the amp for the subs? something better proformance for the same money than the zx2500.1?
I have been away for a long time and am having to re educate myself so any advise would be great.
My spelling sucks so please excuse..
The car we are doing the install in is a 2002 Xterra and we are trying not to lose the back seat but dont have to see out of the back glass(i still love wall's but dont see them much any more...lol
Here are a couple of pics so you know im not telling tall tales..
