  1. Thats what i thought. i tuned my two 15s to 28 hz and i dont like how it rolls off so quick on the hing end. Im tuning my 18s to 30 so i told him hes crazy and im ganna design the boxes from now on.
  2. I am building my friends box for one obsidian audio 18 or or aq hdc3 18 and he wants it tuned super low. Would 23 hz be so low that it would lose a lot of spl?
  3. Its midnight where im at so ill mess with the designs tomorrow. Thanx for the advice I will definitely take into consideration.
  4. Ok good. So I have Im still kinda new to this port/airvelocity/volume thing so help me out here. What your saying is that its not the overall port area that counts its the ratio of heights to width? Nono, that's not what I'm saying at all. What I'm trying to say is that both of these matter. Port area per cubic foot can create port noise, but so can too narrow of a port as well. Ok good, so I have a big enough port. Now I just need to get the ratio down to... what. What is a good ratio to be at?

  6. its the best I can do with the space I have. All I can do is 45 the corners and hope for the best. Then I'd honestly consider getting 15s so that you will be able to fit them in if I were you. Or at least get a few more opinions on this before going ahead with it I've already ordered the subs. I have plenty of time to screw around with the box design but im sticking with the 18s. My last box I built (when I was a complete newb) had a 5 in by 10 in port in it running two 15s and I never had a problem with port noise. The subs had an xmax of 10mmthe tho. I really want to tune below 30 but if I have to tune to 32 or so it wouldn't be that much of a sacrifice.

  8. I would love to but I have about 3/4 in clearance between my back gate and my box. Lol I need a bigger car. Touche', Is there any way you can raise the height, and decrease the length so you don't have to sacrifice your airspace? Just trying to think of a way to help you out, bc I had a box with the port facing up and it wasn't as near as loud as my box that i have now with port facing back. I know what you mean. My crappy planet audio 12s with portthe back seemed almost as loud as my 15s when I had the port facing up but they couldn't hit near as low. My box +with the inverted subs is about 6it in away from my roof. If I go any higher it would almost be a wall lol. I might end up taking out the back seat and just going the whole 9 yards and getting two more 18s. They subs wont be her until march so I have a little time to decide. I understand that, not a lot of room in Jeeps. Thankfully my car was wide enough, I could get 17 cubes, and still keep it under 25" and IMO, I'd rather remove my back seat instead of walling off (unless competing), i just hate not being able to see whats behind me lol. I was considering competing but I don't think I can get loud enough on two 18s on 1.6k at 29 hz. My back seats are at angles so I might throw in an angled side to get some extremely space

  11. Escribe I wish I could post picture of the design but im on my phone so im just gunna have to describe it. The box is 39.5 x 26 x 24.5. It is 12 cu ft gross 10 net. The port is 3 x 38 x 27 with three common walls. There is 114 in^2 of port space making it 12 in per cube. It will be tuned to about 29 hz and the subs will be inverted and flush mounted. The port and subs will face upwards and this is going into a jeep cherokee. So what do you guys think? Good or no? And don't forget a whole lot of bracing.
  12. ^X2 building your own box is da way to go. Build it to the specs of the speakers and ur garunteed to get good sound.
  13. [/quot e] damn its a 150 but still thats really impressive. i didnt even think about it being walled my bad Irk... thought it was 160because but oh well. My point is you can get loud if you want. But since its not ur primary objective just go ported.
  14. Go ahead and look it up. Its obviously not with 2 12s but it can and has been done.
  15. I've never heard that place one b4. But than again im no expert. I actually think my subs sound better with the windows down cuz there is not as much rattle...
