  1. OH and theeeeen they will lower it even more if it's needed to match up with the rms of the subs. SO just in case lets say a sub is 300watts rms and the amp is putting out 900 without clipping they will lower the gain even more so it matchs the subs rms even tho it can cleanly put out 900
  2. Yeah well i think i just got smarter here, With the O-scope it detects clipping, so they hook it up to my system with the gain ALL the way down, slowly bring it up till it shows it's clipping once they see that they back it down so it's not clipping anymore with my head unit at about 3/4ths the volume. Did i get it right
  3. No man i totally agree, that's why im asking, im asking how it's set and things so i can learn and spread the information with friends around here to farther my knowledge, but the shop should be able to set my gains correct. I know theres a few people here that live near me, in Fresno Cali.
  4. So i don't need a shop to set my gains. Just turn it till when.. how will i know if it's a good clean power without clipping. I am prob making this more difficult that it has to be im sorry. So what good is the shop if im adjusting the gains myself. To see if it's clipping or not but how would i tell if it's clipping when im setting my gains.
  5. Maybe my question should consist of how to set your gain. Maybe that would be smarter. I wanna make sure it's unclipped power, and not pushing my subs to hard.
  6. Yes it's Fuse Rating X Voltage X .7 =Rms power. But that just tells you what it can put out not what it is pushing out.
  7. Haha sleep man sleep. But alright guys as long as i won't be waiting a million years for this it should be all good, i saw a post on the thread saying 6 months i was like well crap. But okay so about im thinkin at the MOST 3 months. Thanks for all your help guys, sorry it took so long trying to learn on my other thread bout gains and such thanks for all your guys's help!
  8. Lol yes i know this, but how do i know where to set my gain, i set my gain as high as possible without clipping? and without going over the rms of the sub? That would be what the shop would have to do im just trying to learn now.
  9. I sure hope so, he of everyone would be able to tell how long the wait would be. Im willing to wait 2 months for my subs because i ahve to save up for many more things before i can put them in but a year might be a little to long
  10. Yeah it should i agree, so i need to get the 4 dvc subs thanks man that clears that up so i'll be able to push 1000 if i wanted. Now i am sorry to bug you again but about the gains, so there is no way for me to know what's being pushed to the subs, so how will i make sure there being pushed to there full potential, just tell the shop to set my gains?
  11. Right 800 a sub is what i can play them with being safe about it. THere dc's lvl3's on a 2k mono amp, that's a whole nother question that i will have after i have this figured out would be Would i be able to bridge the 2k mono dc amp. The amp it'sself pushs 2krms at 1 ohm. So im not sure if i would be able to hook up the subs so that i could get a 1 ohm load between the two subs so that it will push 1k rms to each, and just tune my gain down a bit so that it is 800 each then be sure it's not clipping. So is bridging the 2k amp to the 2 dc subs possible. Being that it's a mono amp
  12. Okay well this might have just answered my question i posted, i read this closer, so basicly they will test my amp to see what it will push without being clipped, then clamp it at that power to see what it's really pushing, then put my gain to anything lower than what it said it was clipping at? This will def be a job for the shop as im fairly new to this im just wanting to make sure im getting the full potential out of the equiptment i will be purchasing. Not putting 200 watts to a 800 watt sub. In case it clears anything up the subs and amp will be lvl3 dc's 2 of those and a 2k amp. from dc
  13. Wow that's fairly sad. Box rise i'll have to read about so then how would i know or the shop know where to set my gains. Doesn't that effect the wattage pushed out as well.
  14. Hey guys, the thread that's probably still up in the top 6-8 is regaurding the lvl4's or 5's i beleive i can't really remember.. horrible memory i know. But as for the level3 motors how long would you think the wait would be. If ordered in this week or the next. Also im ordering from a local dealer, so are the subs being provided to the dealers before people that ordered? Or would the dealers basicly act as people and going by the order date no matter who does the ordering weather it be a normal person, or a shop dealer. Thanks for the feedback. Im wondering the same thing as the guy in the other thread is , just a different level.
  15. Haha trust me i won't be shy about it, if they say no i'll be like wtf?! Im calling kicker lmao. But OH see i don't know how an o-scope works so on the o-scope they will be able to tell how many watts is going to each, so i can tell them i want 800 going to each just be sure that the signal is not clipping. Nor distorting.
  16. That too, there was a local shop that would "set it good", they did it by ear,and my gains were maxed out. Then i turned them down and got them set by oscope So your saying that they will set my gains for me, to there maximum potential as far as wattage goes without clipping, and distorting. So i have no control over how many watts i want going to each.
  17. Yeah i'l have hem set by an o-scope but im not sure what you mean luis im trying to figure out if they will set it with an o-scope to get them to there full potential as well as my amp without clipping, or if i can tell them put so many watts to each sub and make sure it's not clipping and distorting. Also as for depends on the shop, there all authorized by kicker ect. Mainstream brands i would hope they have an oscope so i'll be sure to ask before they set my things up.
  18. Hey guys my question is i want the subs to have around 800rms each but will the shop be able to do this, or will the shop put it on a oscope and push them till it starts to distort then back it off. So that im getting the maximum out of my system. Or will they be able to set it to what i want, and then tell me what volume i can play it at ect.
  19. Well seeing how this thread is still popular haha, i have another question im about to get the 2k amp to 2 lvl3 dc's put about 800 watts each hopefully, i guess the shop will set it till it doesn't distort so i really don't have any say in how many watts goes to each, but all i have to do is bridge the amp right? Since it is a mono amp. And put the amp to a one ohm load?
  20. Hey guys, title pretty much says it all, do the sub that you buy need time to break in, does it varry from brand to brand, such as some don't test theres that's why you need to break it in, i've heard various answers to the questions, if it's any help im wondering if DC's will need to be "Broke in". Honestly any sub for that matter. Thanks guys!! Guess the title doesn't say it all haha, my fail error, i ment subs, little tired here.
  21. Yeah there is a list of reasons that can cause clipping bro. I can't name them all im still a starter as well, but that link i posted will tell you all the different reasons. I don't think the sub would have TORN because of clipping, maybe blew. But it's possible i guess.
  22. Alright well im still fairly new to this so i'll try to explain it to you the best that i can, basicly it's when your amp starts to push dirty power into your sub causing it to clip. It can hurt your amp as well as your sub.Usually it occurs when you try to push your amp to hard or above what it can produce amps usually have a certain amount of power they can push out that's "Clean" power you start to clip when you go above that the only way you can tell if you are going above it or not is to get an oscope or smd dd1, ifyou have your gains cranked all the way this could also be a problem.. If anyone else has a better defenition please go right ahead, still learning as well Also there is a tool called an o-scope or the SMD DD1 the smd detects distortion before you start to clip, so you can set your gains and find the max volume on your head unit without clipping. Here is a site to help you out mate http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/showthread.php?11863-What-is-quot-clipping-quot it's basicly what i said just in english
  23. Ouch! Yours tunes it by ear!? Hell you could do that yourself.. guess i better make sure mine has a oscope
  24. Yeah i agree with the above posts, i think you'd love some dc's lvl3's put them in the right encloser, right electrical the amp is different from what you have, but this is what there capable of:)
