  1. Hey guys, This build log will follow modifications to my 95 Maxima GLE. This weekend I decided to start my first build. I really wanted to have a vehicle with a nice sound system geared towards loud SQ. I replaced all the stock speakers, putting in 2 pair of Infinity Kappa 652.9i and an Infinity Reference 475a amplifier to power them. The speakers are rated for 75w RMS each and the amp outputs 90w RMS per channel. I finished installing them on sunday and love how they sound! They have a clean and loud sound with great highs and good midbass. I plan on getting a woofer next, but that is still a plan in the works. Here's the pics I took. A shot of my car. In order to get the rear deck speakers out I had to remove the entire backseat to get to the cardboard cover that is over the stock speakers. A shot of the rear deck. These things were a bitch to pry off. The clips were really tough since they hadn't been taken off before. This is what the rear deck is like with the cardboard cover removed, showing the new speakers in place. Door panels removed to get access to the speaker housing. I applied a few layers of Resisto Redzone to the door panels as sound deadner and baked it on with a heatgun. That shit STICKS. It was kinda pointless to wear gloves cause they just stuck to and ripped on the adhesive. In October someone broke into my car, smashing my window. I tried to pick out most of the glass bits that got stuck in the door frame, then vacuumed it out with a shopvac. Here's where I ran the amp wiring through the backseat into the trunk. There is a carpeted kinda carboard lining in the trunk that wires come out of, concealing the wire nicely. This is the spot on the firewall where I drilled a hole big enough to fit 4 awg cable through. The amp powered up with its bright blue rails. I've positioned it better and cleaned up the trunk and hid the wires better since I took this picture. I'll get some better pictures of the trunk now that I've finished putting everything in. It looks a lot more 'finished' than in this last pic. I'll also get some better pics of the cars' body when I wash it next. As soon as I finish editing some video I took I'll be posting a few videos to youtube to show the system in action. Thanks for checking out my build log. - Funk
  2. I don't want to tune that high. The RE Calculator gave me 35hz as a tuning frequency with these same dimensions. That's why I asked which calculator was more accurate.
  3. If I were to make a square port box, like I'm suggesting?
  4. I'm trying to design a box for a single SXX15D2 for my 95 Nissan Maxima. These is what I've come up with so far. The specs for the woofer are as follows: 15" Mounting Depth - 8.4 inch Mounting Hole Diameter - 14 inch Overall Diameter - 15.5 inch Bolt Hole Circle - 14.65 inch Motor Width - 7.3 inch Motor Depth - 3.6 inch Basket Depth - 4.8 inch Displacement - 0.18 cu. ft. Weight - 27.6 lbs. Would a box 16" tall be big enough for a 14" mounting hole? the overall diameter of the woofer is 15.5". The RE Box calculator gives me a totally different tuning frequency than Torres Box Calculator. I realize they're 2 different programs, but which is more accurate? Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated
  5. I think I'll be placing the order this weekend since I get paid on friday. Thanks for the help fellas.
  6. I don't doubt that an infinity amp would be a better purchase. The only one that matches my needs is 90w RMS x4. Will this damage the speakers at high volume since they're rated for 75w each? EDIT: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9712_Infinity-Reference-475a.html It isn't much more expensive than the Pioneer, so I wouldn't mind dropping the extra $30 on it.
  7. I think that if i did decide to upgrade later on I would probably just sell the speakers and amp together. Would the infinities and the Pioneer be a good choice compatibility-wise though?
  8. I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in my '95 nissan maxima. I know the front door panels take 6 3/4" speakers because I've replaced them once before. Sonic Electronics says the rear deck has 6 3/4's aswell so it looks like I'll be getting two pairs of 'something'. I like the specs of the Infinity Kappa 652.9i's. Any feedback on these speakers or any other infinity speakers would be appreciated. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13454_Infinity-Kappa-652.9i.html The amp I've picked out is this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_37751_Pioneer-GM-6500F.html It looks like the right amp for the job. 85w RMS @ 2ohms (the speakers are rated at 75w RMS @ 2ohms). I'm very close to placing the order! What do you guys think? I'm pretty confident this will be a pretty badass mids/highs setup for my first install. The bass will come later Any feedback or suggestions on this setup would be appreciated.
  9. Anyone aware of any single-din head-units that can play .FLAC files using a USB stick?
  10. It's off the album Ruthless if you want to find it. I'd like to see someone try a demo of this
