  1. Ahh, that makes a lot of sense. I was always confused on how dual coils affected the ohm rating. I can take my other two questions to the appropriate sub forum (lol pun). Thanks for all the help everyone. Especially rogue.
  2. Had some time to think and I'm pretty well settled on what to do now. Getting the Fi Q with an AQ 1200D. Edit: Scratch that, Fi SSD. I have a couple questions about the options on the Fi Q. I know they aren't really marketing gimmicks, but will I actually need extra cooling? Also, should I be getting Dual 1 Ohm since the amp is rated for 1200 at 1 Ohm. Correct? Was wondering about wiring too. How you guys go about doing the Big 3 upgrade? I know I could get an Amp wiring kit for the sub and amp, but I'm not sure how to go about getting the wiring for the big 3.
  3. Can't do quotes since I'm on my phone, but thanks for the sub and amp suggestions. I want to see if I've got my facts straight here. I'm sure there is more to it, but clipping is caused by an amp trying to push too hard. Correct? Also, no one has directly addressed my enclosure concerns except for one person. So I'd like to see some second opinions.
  4. So far I'm really liking this. DC Level 3 is rated for 900 RMS which should be well under what could cause dimming and I'm sure will give plenty of bump. Regarding an amp. I'm guessing I need to buy an Amp rated higher than the sub since I doubt I'll find one rated for 900 RMS. In which case do I just turn the gains down, or how does that work? Did anyone have any extra thoughts on the enclosure deal? I want to make sure I do this right. Its nice to hear I've unintentionally done an upgrade that helps with dimming though.
  5. On a side note. I have 35W HIDs installed. So that might help with the dimming since they use less wattage and the ballasts act a little bit like a capacitor if I'm not mistaken.
  6. Even if my alternator probably puts out only around 80amps? I don't want to have to worry about dimming, since I know if it happens after the big 3 you're pretty much screwed unless you get a new alt. Which is something I really want to avoid.
  7. I don't understand this. From a little bit of googling it seems like that is a normal port with flared ends that supposedly help with sound quality. I was about to buy those Type R's until I decided to come on here and see what you guys think. I wish JL was in my price range, but looking at the amp I would need, it looks like it would take up over half my budget. Oh, and are you aiming the port for your sub through that hole in the arm rest? Interesting.. I really liked that Fi Q, even though it can probably handle more RMS than my car can
  8. Yea, I can't really modify the car THAT much. At least with the center arm rest I can cover it up if I want.
  9. So I had a thread like this before, but, unfortunately, never went through with it. I've still got a lot of lingering questions and new ones. The budget is for sub(s)/amp(s)/wiring/box. First things first, my car is a 2003 Toyota Camry. I've discovered there is a problem with my trunk since it is seperated from the cabin. I've been told I need to use a bandpass box and position the port through a hole somewhere to the cabin. If so, I've been thinking about going through the backseat's center arm rest backing, as I've seen others do. The only problem is that, since I've never done this before, a bandpass box is very intimidating to me. I have zero background in wood work, but I do have access to plenty of tools to get the job done. Not only that, but I have no idea where to start with dimensions. Especially since the port has a set dimension it has to fit in. Of course friends will be recruited to help. Also, I'm having a lot of trouble deciding on a sub. I should note, that I don't want to have so much RMS that I'll have to put in a new alternator. I will be doing the big 3 and I already have an Optima Yellowtop. Yes I know its not an XS Power or Kinetic or w/e else. Back to subs.. I've looked at anything from an Alpine 1243D Type R to a Fi Q. I generally listen to dubstep style music, so I've been exclusively looking at 12". I have no idea where to go with amp(s). I've tried researching a bit, but no one seems to be able to agree with anyone on what is what. Nor do I have any idea as to what brands are good in what price ranges. I'm anxious to see what you guys come up with.
  10. Thanks for the recommendation! I've been meaning to read up on the differences between a/b and d. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that Class D amps were supposedly built to higher standards than a/b, but apparently that isn't so!
  11. Fair enough, I guess I'll have to take a look into it. Anyone have any thoughts on the Amp I'm looking at? I just picked it because of the same RMS rating as the sub and I've heard some good things about RF amps.
  12. i understand if you lack the ability to make a ported box that sounds better all around then a sealed box...its ok though everyone doesnt HAVE to be on the cutting edge of getting the most out of everything. Granted I'm not the most skilled woodworker you'll ever meet, but I've got friends that can help me out with such problems.. I've just heard that a Sealed Box would be better suited for my SQ crave. If you care to explain yourself, I'd appreciate it.
  13. Yea, like I said I spent the last 3 weeks doing research. I didn't come here not knowing anything. I know the Fi Qs are supposed to be good SQ subs and have been recommended for Sealed Enclosures which from my understanding produces tighter bass. I'm not going for the high SPL. Thanks for the link BJD3, but I've read all of that already here: https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraudio.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=154e04295948afb/shopdata/0070_Tech/0070_Speakers/0030_Tech.Q/product_overview.shopscript I'm just trying to figure out if what they are saying will actually be of real benefit or if it is just marketing hype. Sorry for the confusion. Wanted to take a second and thank everyone so far for helping me out with this! Please keep the info coming. I can't get enough of it!
  14. Thanks for the tips and recommedations! Anyone have any thoughts on those features I mentioned for the Fi sub? Remember it will be in a sealed box.
  15. Do you guys think I would need to upgrade my Alternator? After all, it is only 1000 RMS, but still.. And thanks for the gauges! I forgot to mention what all this is going into! 2003 Camry XLE with JBL sound system upgrade, which actually isn't too bad. (I know a camry..its all I got though) Also put a new HU in it a few weeks back, Pioneer AVH 3300-BT. Thanks for the support and battery recommendation. I'll definitely look into them!
