  1. A multi meter is like $5...

One that can read 300a of current is more.

What does your drop look like if you play a song with a fairly constant bass line?

Where is the meter reading from?

It's probably reading from the lead to the head unit. The red wire is on a wire that turns on when car is on, and the wire that measures is on the yellow fused wire. The voltage is constant 11.5-11.8 on constant bass.

  2. I'm worried about that voltage. No way you should be dropping that low with a 270a alt. Any way you can clamp the alternator to verify it's putting out?

You HAVE done the big 3 right?

I was thinking the same thing. Where do you have your volt meter reading at? The amps?

I'm reading this from my VM-1.

Could you post a video of your voltage drop? Does it go that low and stay low or dip for a split second then come up to 13v+?

Yes. 3 0 gauge wires. However, my engine to chassis wire may not be true 0 gauge, closer to 4. Is this the major issue? My charging voltage is surprisingly low, about 13.4V warm, 14 cold, but I believe that is ECM controlled. I would like to test my alt's output, but I don't have a clamp meter. Anyone know where to possibly rent one?

  4. Currently, I've got an SP4 15 powered by a DC 3.5k, and under the hood I have a Mechman 270 with a YellowTop. It's a daily car, 12v system, and I only play it full tilt when the car is on and revved. Do I need a battery as large as a D3400 as a secondary battery? Or will a smaller battery like a D975 work? My goal is to reduce voltage drop. Currently, it drops to about 11.8V on max volume.

  5. Thanks, but seems like my issues are all fixed now. I realized that I haven't upgraded the engine block to chassis portion of my big 3, and found that the wire was a tiny 16 gauge wire. Upon upgrading it, I'm seeing improvements all around. I believe the 13.4v I get when the car is warm is just my car. It's a 2005 Toyota Camry, with the 3.3L engine. Don't know if that helps with any research into this.
