  1. I have had the DD-1 for about 1.5 years now and have used it on many applications, but there is one thing I always wondered....

    ok so if you follow the manual on how to set up a subwoofer amplifier it say to turn the frequency setting (LPF) all the way up. so you do this and you continue to follow the manual to the end, you have now setup an amplifier like a pro.

    but, when the LPF is all the way up the amp distorts at a lower gain setting then with the LPF set to 80hz (or where ever you want it). so why should I tune the amp with the LPF all the way up if its not going to be all the way up when im using it? why can't I tune the amp with the LPF at 80Hz like it will be set to after I get done using the DD-1?

    to me it just makes more sense to "tune" a amp with the setting where they will be when your actually using it... maybe not? but like I said at the beginning, I always follow the manual for actual setups. this is just something I found out on my test bench, and i wanted to ask if this was wrong and why.

    Edit - how I found this out:

    turn the LPF all the way up, then set the gain distortion free, now with the dd-1 still connected turn the LPF down to where you want it (80hz for me), now start to turn your gain up and you will realize that the distortion light is not coming on, now keep turning it up until the light comes on and then back it back down so it goes out.

    you will now realize that the gain has gone up a lot more with the LPF set to where you will be using it.

  2. found the problem.

    now im not positive but....

    option 1: i didn't turn the gain all the way down from the privious setting before i touched the prob to the amp causing a spark when coming in contact with a conductor "the probe", and because of the high speaker output voltage going into the wire it melted / unsoldered.

    option 2: the wires on the dd-1 were already unsoldered and touching each other so when i completed the curcit by touch the speaker terminal it shorted and the probe sparked not the terminal.

    hmmmmm....although very unusual, we are not perfect and we would be happy to replace that. Please email me your address to [email protected] and i will get you a new harness out right away.

    Just out of curiosity...did you buy that new or used? I can see if someone pulled the wires too hard (not necessarily intentional) they could come off and cause them to short. This would be the first time i have seen this and its good because now we can keep our eye out for it in the future. :)

  4. setting a bass amp. i was trying to use my dd-1 and when i touch the positive probe to the (+) output on my digital designs amp, it will spark when it makes contact and the amp goes into protect. i was using track 5 the "inbetween" setting. i tried it with the track playing and also with the track on pause and it sparked both times.

    after messing with it i saw that the ground wire had come unsoldered off of the aligator clip, so i unhooked the dd-1 from the amp and unpluged the wire harness from the dd-1. i then crimped the ground wire back onto the aligator clip. i then plued the wire harness back into the dd-1 and as the plug "rca looking plug" made contact with the dd-1 it sparked??? with the ground re-conected i retried tuning my amp and now its not going into protect anymore, so thats good. so i figured everything was working okay but now the dd-1 wont pick up the 40 hz signal, i made sure that the track was playing and the radio was turned up. the dd-1 should be sensing the 40 hz signal because my amp has already been set with the dd-1 and i didn't move the gain at all. so, not sure if my amp fucked up the dd-1 or if the dd-1 fuck up itself.... help?
