  1. sounds good to me and after all it will only be an 8 it may be shocking....

    Ha ha.

    I'm only running a single DD1512 D4 right now and as much as I love bass I'll never be a ground pounder. However, I like to experiment but I've never had the oppurtunity to truly play around with car audio beyond basic installations. Who know's what will come of this foray.

  2. Rent a Mod moment: No vs. threads.

    :noob:

    Please do not report this thread as a VS thread guys.

    This user is asking the Vender Skar Audio (in their section) for the differences between 2 of their model woofers he is deciding on getting and wondering which would suit his needs better.

    This is why these vender sections are here.

    In no ways is he trying to compare a Skar woofer with another brands woofer, he is just wondering the differences..

    Thanks

    -Brian

    Thank you Brian. Up until now, I ignored the previous post.

    Anyone else out there that can help influence my descision?

  3. Well since they are both rated at 400wrms I would go with the MA 8 because it looks cool and should have a little more boom to it

    The MA8 is a good looking woofer.

    I am a bit concerned since Skar recommends a ported box of about .75cf for the MA8. Their directions said something about not going much larger. I was hoping to do something crazy like 2-2.5cf but I don't want to ruin a perfectly good woofer.

    ma8 is supposed to be a better sub than the vvx8

    its like $85 more so that should say something

    More $$$ doesn't always mean better IMO.

    isnt the ma8 and spl sub

    Yeah. The MA8 is supposed to be SPL orientated. What does this mean in terms of real world performance?

    I was hoping that someone could tell me exactly what the differences are between the two subs. I've read Skar's site but both drivers seem pretty close to me. I know there has to be some difference. Skar wouldn't create 2 different lines of subs that do the same thing.

  5. I think I am going to take advantage of Skar's "trade" program and I am trying to decide what to get. I've never messed with any 8" subs before, figured I would start a little fun project. As well, this will be my first foray into Skar audio.

    What are the main differences between the MA 8 and the VVX 8?

    How do I know/figure out, which one to choose?

  6. Can I ask why you don't just get seperate amps? That way you can get a A/B class amp for you mids and highs and a class D for your Subwoofer.

    Simplicity of design and only a small budget to work with. Alot of 5 channels offer a/b for mids and highs and d for the sub.

    ALpine PDX v9

    It's a bit out of my price range but dully noted.

    Here are some other options:

    But it would be less expensive and better performing to go for a 4 channel AB and a Sub amp.

    I can't agree to this expecially once you add in distribution blocks, most likely an extra battery, and additional wiring.

    five channels are the way to go for a simple daily driver install i think

    I'd agree. Simplicity of design and an oppurtunity to get my feet wet.

    5 channel amps are great for "listening" systems ...

    But if you plan to beat the shit out of it ... My suggestion yould be to go with multiple amps (2 2 channels and 1 mono block) for maximum power supply setup ...

    one power supply just wont be able to handle the punishment ...

    just my suggestion here ...

    For now, $ are a factor. With a multiple amplifier setup there are many additional costs.

    audison lrx 5.1 is a 5 channel that has plenty of balls. \

    class a /ab/ and d

    LRX 5.1 is a sweet amplifier but too rich for my blood.

    Anyone have opinions on the two amplifiers I've posted at the beginning?

  7. I'm looking at 5 channel amps for my car. My budget is $300-$400. I would like the sub channel to put out atleast 500 watts @ 2ohm. I've narrowed it down to these two.

    My sub is a DD 1512D4a.

    JBL-GTO 5EZ

    @14.4V

    F/R 4 x 50 Watts @ 4 Ohm

    Sub 1 x 500 Watts @ 2 Ohm

    DB Drive-Okur A3 2200.5

    @14.4V

    F/R 4 x 150 Watts @ 4 Ohm

    Sub 1 x 1000 Watts @ 1 Ohm (1 x 500 Watts @ Ohm)

    I'm skeptical that the DB Drive puts out the power it says it does.

    I have no experience with either brand, at all.

    Any opinions? Other options?
