Can I just buy a 4 channel amp, run from the head unit straight to the amp then straight to the speakers bypassing the gay factory stuff?

has anyone put an after market head unit into a 99 ford taurus? I looked and looked and none of the wiring diagrams matched this car.. so I found the constant and the ground and put the head unit in.. then I couldn't find the remote.. so I wired the remote wire form the radio to the constant for the time being... then I turned on the radio and started putting speaker wires together... the radio is on.. but no sound will come form any speaker.. fml

I'm building a system for my 98' ford escort zx2 and my girl friend's 99' ford taurus. Im looking at the specs for different subs and I dont know the difference in the rms of a sub vs. it's peak wattage. If a sub can handle 200 watts rms what size amp sld i get. I'm getting this Cerwin-Vega Vega-122 for both builds which has dual 2 ohm voice coils rated at 200 wats rms with a peak of 400 watts. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12081_Cerwin-Vega-Vega-122.html thanks for any help with this!
