  1. Today I just got my DD-1, and just set my gains on my bass amp, and discovered my headunit distorts at 35 outta 35, but my speakers sounded like crap past 30 since I'm on headunit power for the mid's and highs, and I usually listen to 28, so I decided to set the gain at 29 instead of 34, cause at 34, I wasn't enjoying my sub when I am at 28, so setting the gain at 29 has me enjoy my sub, and I don't plan on going past 29 really whether for daily or demo.

Gain was set with -5 db 40 hz test track since my songs don't go past -5db, and the amp seems to run a bit cooler than before when I set it by ear, and the gain knob was a little less then when I set the gains by ear.

Now the question is, is it ok to set the gains at a desired volume instead of the maximum undistorted volume?

I do plan on retuning when I get a mids and highs amp.

  2. well im glad you get what i was trying to explain

just one thing that bugs me. you say you can "turn the subwoofers down to a nice clean level" but how flat is it?

fidelity is just one piece of sq

but anyway you know what you are doing and you are going to do it your way regardless.

What could possibly be the other piece, I thought fidelity was the main goal of a Sound Quality vehicle.

    wrong word

    three pieces

    accuracy/clarity of notes

    flat response

    and then there is imaging/staging

Yes, High Fidelity means all of those, or at least the sum of all of those.

  4. WTF is SQ anyway!? As in, says who?

If it sounds good, it's SQ...

    not really.

i only take exception to this guy (ihatepunkrock) telling me my system won't be "sq" because i have a lot of power AVAILABLE to my woofer. That's bullshit. Other then that, i know what he is TRYING to say. SQ is not just a "sounds good" thing. There is a lot more to it then that. He can direct that at someone else besides me though. Im no peanut, i didn't just start hooking up systems yesterday.

SQ is in my view that makes most sense, short term for High Fildelity, The reproduction of sound trying to sound as close to the original sound.

I don't get why people think if you run a lot of power, you're taking away from the SQ, it's what you do with that power that decides sound quality or not.

besides that, i can turn the subwoofers down to a nice clean level. Just because i have a lot of power AVAILABLE to the woofer, doesn't mean its always on it. I don't typically drive with the bass slapping hard as hell anyway......you can find me listening to music at normal, clean levels 99% of the time and 80% of the time it ISN'T rap music. I love my beats but i listen to other things most of the time.

I have found that the better I get my mids and highs sounding, the less over the top bass I actually want. That spot where the subs blend seamlessly with the front stage is incredible to me. Especially with the amount of classical music I listen to, the depth of sound that a well balanced sub stage adds to the music is truly incredible!

I keep my eq flat, if the song needs the bass, the bass is there, if the song doesn't need the bass, then the bass doesn't appear. I expect bass when I'm listening to rap music, but when I listen to Pink Floyd, I expect the bass to behave and appear when needed.

I agree on the mids, and highs, having good mid's and high's makes more songs enjoyable, having just a good sub stage but meh mid's, and high's, you'd just want to listen to bassy music all the time cause the mids, and highs suck.

  6. My wife just can't understand why I will not just take my truck to a shop when it brakes and let them keep it and fix it ... She go so mad at me when I got rear ended, I refused to let the body shop of their (people's insurance) choice and give me a rental until its fixed ...

I will not leave my truck with untrustworthy people that I do not know and use regularly ... Knowing my luck, some dum ass will get in there and abuse and tear up my stereo system and I wouldn't be able to do a damn thing about it ...

With the gear you're running, you're better off buying a new bumper yourself, and fixing it yourself.

slp ya that sumbish is clean as hell now, little grease lightening will help clean up any car lol. I use it everytime i buy a car to clean it that shit will get off anything under the hood too, were rebuilding a motor for a heated pressure washer right now we got for free along with a big ass parts washer for free lol. My pops work just throws stuff out that barely has anything wrong with it. Oh its got a scratch lets buy a new one haha so we go pick it up and were supposed to dump it off at the trash but fuck that lol....

Omega ya thats how the shops do my friend works at one and i used to go sit up there and chill and help him a little and what goes on behind the scenes is ridiculous lol. They treat the cars like shit and rig everything up. I can tsay every shop does that but i know that a couple of them in sanford, nc do haha

Well, the shop I'm taking my car to did fix it up right when my car broke down, they are like Triple A approved, but are expensive. I only changed my mind when my dad offered to pay half after the argument. Still hate mechanic I don't know.

  7. ive worked under the hood since i was 8 i am 22 now still a yungin but love to work on cars, under them, in them doesnt matter. I can work on anything with wheels ive worked on motorcycles, atvs, dirtbikes, mopeds whatever. Taken motors apart on all of them and put them back, I love getting dirty and you can make so much money by just knowing what is wrong and tax people a little but a shop holy hell theyll tax the hell out of you for a 30 min job that theyll say takes 4 hrs blah blah blah lol. all in all its a good skill to learn...

Oh hell ya and im a smart ass shopper lol i find hella deals but mines might be a little too hot for a couple peoples liking lol. I aint a thief no more but just know where to go n who to call lol

Yeah, another thing I don't like about mechanics, is the fact I'm gonna have to pay for them to dick around, and they call it "labor"

  8. hell ya last car i bought was a 98 grand am for 200 dollars i swear the only thing wrong with it was the head gasket was blown it had 80,000 miles on it. paint was meh but after a good waxing it was all gravy... brough it home by dragging it with my pops truck with flat tires all i heard was bitching for a month about what a piece of shit it was lol i put about 100 dollars in it done all the work myself and sold it at the end of the month for 2000 flat lol

that takes skill, skill that I one day hope to have. I fucking hate working under the hood. It's like open heart surgery but a great skill.

My room mate's girlfriend saw me taking out my alternator to get it fixed and saw me trying to fix the timing belt on my vehicle..... her response was "why don't you just take it to a shop?" ..... fucking pisses me off. If I can fix something by myself instead of being charged out the ass to have a simple job completed then I'm going to do it myself.

my other room mate was getting advice on doing a system on his brand new ford focus when my room mate tuned in and said "just take it to a shop and get it done right"..... WTF did you ever see how great of a job I did on my car or are you fucking blind and that ignorant

my rant ends here. long story short I couldn't fix the timing belt because the idler pulley had gone bad and I didn't have proper tools to fix it.

I trust no shop guys at all for the most part, took my dad an hour of argument to have my timing belt done at a mechanic when I get the money instead of having a good friend of mine who's good with cars to do it, damn tensioner made me change my mind.

I kinda don't trust mechanics cause I feel like when I have something fixed, they are gonna fuck up something else, so they force me to bring it to be fixed, so they make more money.

Audio shop guys, loololol, I'd be like "no touchy of the audio"

  9. Question: If I upgrade my speaker wire from 16 gauge to 8 gauge, do you think there will be a noticeable difference? Also, any estimates on how much the big 3 costs? 100 dollars for a kit which i'm pretty sure is over priced.

I had the exact same situation when I was using 16 gauge wire for my sub, when I switched to 8 gauge, made a huge difference cause I wasn't restricting current. 16 gauge, well at 2 ohms, can only transfer 300 watts, lower impedance is even worse.
