  1. I clamped mine by taking one amp and hooking it up at .5 ohm on both dual 2 subs, rise was to 1.2xx ohm and it did 18xx watts.

Maybe your seeing a imp rise to around 3ohm and are just not getting the power you think it should do. How is your voltage doing and I'm assuming it's wired to 1ohm

  2. Okay little clarification, the box will be a simple rectangle box as would any prefab would be, not buying a fancy fit one or anything I will build one to spec that will not be an issue whee as I already know what I'm building..

The one thing I can't decide on is 2 10s ported or 2 12s sealed

  3. My brother just turned 16 and got his license this week, he has a 1998 firebird ram air car (rare factory v6 ram air I might add) that is getting painted right now. He always wanted a system ever since I got my first one so for his bday I bought him a jl j2 500.1 which does 500rms at 2ohm and a alpine deck.

Now as you all know a firebird/Camaro has limited space in the hatch so the next thing I'm doing for his bday is building a simple box to slide down in the hatch just until he decides to upgrade and then we will go all out (after he is a little better behind the wheel)

So after the back story here is my delima, I have around 2.5-3 cubes to play with should I go 2 10s ported or 2 12s sealed?

I've been leaning towards the 10s where as I havnt done any work with small woofer and I think ported would sound better in the hatch..

Opinions? Subs will b skar vvx so we can add power a little later

  4. It all depends on the woofer and car, some subs like closer to a 2:1 for music where as other like closer to a 1:1 generally the smaller sealed to ported ratio also means a betters power handling yet smaller bandwidth...

Generally speaking IMO a 2:1 ratio around 50hz is a good place to start when designing one.. But the best way is to build a number of them and see which one you like the most, as in build a 3:1 a 2:1 and a 1:1 with interchangeable ports and switch tuning freq anywhere from 45-55 hz..
