unless I'm wrong, you forgot to change the port height AB18VFL. Thanks for your input, I'm trying to balance quite a bit and with this being my first ported build i want to make sure I'm taking steps in the right direction. I listen to pretty much everything. For sure a good chunk of dubstep and rap/hip hop, but i still would like some musical capability for other genres, though they get a slight bit less playing time in my Jeep
wow youre right, i did forget to change the port height.
i listen to alot of dubstep and metal. yesterday i build a big box alot like the design i gave you, except for a 12. im very happy with it.

how does one go about becoming one? haha
-
just get a new amp. hifonics brz2400.1d. cheap but better than mtx...
-
theres no way that amp does 2.2krms. no use getting it repaired. IMO mtx is stupid and overrated.
-
im interested in the new alpine type-r line to be honest...and i am an AB fan to the fullest.

this is what you want. you're underpowering the sub, so a bigger box should give you the best output. usually a smaller port area will sound a punchier for your metal and rock,

time to grab a new pair of xfls brah

The last time I looked up a TC sub, it recommended a small sealed box. Which goes along with what Socky stated. soft parts. If you find a deal on a SA or a fosgate and put it in the box you built, I bet it would produce the bass you are looking for. If you keep the TC build a small sealed box and see how the sub responds
i like the way you think.

do you have the recomended specs for this subwoofer
nahhh, got the sub for free. this kid had this sitting in his back seat. Told me "you can have it bro, it's a no name sub with nothing on the dustcap. i'm getting a kenwood!"

idk if your amp has a sub sonic filter built in?
lol me eiths brah

maybe the coil can handle 1500rms thermally, but the suspension isnt stiff enough for 1500rms.
im only giving it 600rms...
-
maybe your box wasnt built/ tuned/designed like you thought it was?
-
2.2 for a 12 is pretty big. Shrink down to 1.9-2.0 and see what happens.
i'm not shunning your advice man, but everyone on here says "underpowering sub=bigger box" haha. i used to love building boxes, but now it just seems like such a chore, i dont wanna do it again.

Today I built a box for my 12" TC9 proto. The sub can supposedly it can handle up to 1500rms. It's dual 2 ohm (each coil is sitting at a constant 1.7ohm). The box is 2.2 cubes tuned to 34hz with 12 sq in of port per cube (14.5h x 18w x 24d). I'm only running 600rms to it via JBL monoblock @1ohm. It has no subsonic filter (guessing it's built in), lowpass is around 80, and gains were set with my DD-1.
I built the box long, instead of wide, with sub and port on the front of the box. This is roughly what it looks like (and enjoy my artwork).
When I play really loud, my sub starts bottoming out on some lower frequencies. I heard the coil bounce off the backplate a couple times, but got to the volume knob before it was too late. Also, some lower notes seem to have that "unloading" sound. Is this all happening because of there being too much airspace behind the cone of my woofer?

id rather go with a hifonics if i was tryna save a few bucks...
-
wait.....this is a build log?
you know youre basically free-airing your sony, right?
-
i bet you spent 4 million dollars for the subs, and 100 dollars for the amp.
shakin shit up though!
-
i'm never gonna call them "soundQbed" or whatever.
-
do not increase any of them. I keep my bass level at -8, subwoofer level at 0, and bassboost at 0.
-
why does it matter what it looks like
-
yeah i kind of figured it would end up eventually being a vs post, but i could really use some input from some other people since i cant decide.
this was a vs thread from the start kiddo.
obsidian audio to answer your question.
I've never heard of obsidian i will have to look into it. but i just really like the two that i stated in the beginning of this post.
obsidians are cheaper priced than skars, and i personally like the way theyre built alot better than skar...no offense to skar though, their subs are still killer subs.
