  1. I been using this to "fix" my music tonight, not sure if it will make the sound worse/quieter/not hit as hard, find out in the am tom. Hopefully this guide is right... Really not taking me as long as I thought, after 40 tracks, im wizing right through them... lol

Without watching that vid, it looks like one that was posted a while back, as far as i know Decaf made a couple posts and stated you couldn't remove clipping, because it just quiets down the clipping, leaving the waveform (?) unaffected. I wish I could find those threads, a lot of useful info in them.

  2. It's been discussed before, Audacity doesn't check clipping for lower frequencies exclusively. It shows all ranges of frequencies mashed together, for lack of a better explination. And your subs aren't going to be playing anywhere near all of those frequencies, so it's not a good way to check.

Practice on .5 speed in wmp or whatever the slowest setting is. It'll get easier checking songs after a while, and if it helps, modify it to clip and run it through WMP to get an idea of what to look for.

Once you know what you're looking for, you can totally spot it in Audacity.

Hmm...I guess i should've clarified. I was talking strictly sending a clipped signal to your subs. I was always told you can't accurately check specifically for low frequency clipping because audacity shows clipping from any hz.

  4. The DD-1 is not an o-scope. Quite a few differences, a big one being scopes detect clipping, the dd-1 detects distortion (omg!). All clipping is distortion, but not all distortion is clipping.

Without going into it too much, get a dd-1. It's more user friendly and its pretty amazing.

i hate to be that asshole, but dont listen to this guy^^

distortion IS clipping. is the DD-1 an oscope? no. it will just tell you at what gain level distortion is being sent to your speakers.

I hate to be THAT asshole, but everything he said was correct.

Distortion does NOT necessarily imply clipping.

Anyway, the DD-1 detects distortion. While an o-scope gives you a visual representation of the sine wave going through your speakers. The DD-1 is more accurate in the sense that it will detect more than just clipping, and it will set it to exactly 1% THD.

Thank you. I was most likely misinterpreted when i said all "not all distortion is clipping" and it was taken as "distortion isn't clipping"

Either way, I didnt make too much sense in my response after work last night, lol. I'm far from an expert on the matter but there are more ways to distort than clipping.

I'm saying whenever you clip music, it is distorted. You can also have distortion from other things in your system, and still not be "clipping". Basically what I'm saying is it's better to check for distortion, than it is to just check fr clipping. Seem a little more...not so dumb, phrased that way?

  6. Sweet.. you will get great use of them.

That is still on my list of things to get. Maybe next month just to many good deals this month that I could not pass on.

And with all the new products coming out! I could use just about all of them somewhere along the line!

Will have a few vids including possibly a little hairtrick action if it's not too windy out tomorrow

  7. Alright, I've yet to dive into running speaker wire from my 4ch into each door, but I noticed my Explorer has a door molex on the drivers side.

Did some searching and for the life of my couldn't find a good guide on how to separate it and pass a run of wire through it. It may be easier thani'm thinking, as i'm familiar with molex locks and terminals from work. Guess i'm just asking if aybody has experience with these and could give me some tips and a heads up for anything unexpected when passing wires through these.

  8. I'd turn bass boost down and use a dmm to set your gain if you don't have access to a scope/dd-1.

Had an m2000 and it was always pretty darn cold, so it's most likely settings on your amp or a wiring issue.

  9. Little Mockup of the idea for the amp rack

    IMAG0168-1.jpg

And......DONE! Came out decent for a first timer, haha.

    IMAG0183.jpg

    Final fit of the rack

    IMAG0185.jpg

Wires ran and battery dropped in. Dont worry, I cleaned up every bit of slack :P

    IMAG0190.jpg

    Just sao sexy

    IMAG0191.jpg

Placing fuses in the back, later added two more to the left from battery to amp.

    IMAG0198.jpg

And it was put on hold for a bit, Took a trip to the Chicago area to meet up with the box guru Team DOA Mike (aka mlstrass)

Had a good time watching him do all the work  and then go a demo of Barney. Going from never hearing a 150 before to being in that van was just rediculous! Spurred ideas of a rebuild before I even got this one playing, lol.

But! almost cried when it looked like it wasn't going to the clear the back window

    IMAG0205.jpg

But it did, and it's just plain sexy. 8.5 cubes tuned to 36hz. 41Wx21Dx~27H

    IMAG0202.jpg

The woofers finally have a nice home

    IMAG0203.jpg

Belive it or not I'm still about 3.5 inches off the hatch

    IMAG0204.jpg

Few pictures of the dash. the slot under the H/u was the perfect size for the bass knob and fabbed up a piece of wood with velcro that the stinger screwed into. Crappy phone pics don't do it justice.

    IMAG0206.jpg

    IMAG0207.jpg

And it's all stuffed into this. Has a little sagging, but swapping in 4 door leaf springs and getting some cheap black cragar rims until i go to 33s with Dick Cepek DC-2's.

I'll Upload Vids in the next couple days. Can already do a decent hairtrick with the gain pretty liberal.

DD-1 and CC-1 on the way! Should be nuts after everything tuned!

Leave some feedback, guys! Hope ya like it, and feel free to ask any questions abut how I did certain things, or need pictures of something. :drink40:

Like I said, I know i'm probably leaving alot out right now, though.

  10. Alright guys, decided to wait until the build was finished to start a log.

    Gear list is

    H/u - Alpine CDE-123

    Subs- 2 AQ HDC3 15's Aluminum coil

    Sub Amp - AQ3500d.1

    4ch Amp - Alpine mrp-f300

    Door speakers - Polk DXI 570 x4

2 Pos and Neg runs of Knu OFC

    All Knu RCAs

Electrical consists of a Mechman 270A alt, D3400 up front, and a D3100 in the back. All connected with ProjectDB battery terminals.

Anywho, on to the pictures....i'm sure i'm forgetting something or leaving pictures out.

    Alt compared to stock

    IMAG0163.jpg

    D3400 in with stock wiring

    IMAG0161.jpg

Double-up of big 3 added, because I know an upgrade is bound to happen

    IMAG0165.jpg

It was hard drilling into the Ex :(

    IMAG0170.jpg

    All grommets put in place

    IMAG0171.jpg

    Runs finished to the back

    IMAG0208.jpg

Not the prettiest thing, but made brackets to keep my fuse holders in place. (old Droid Eris with no flash FTL)

    IMAG0209.jpg

Coming up from under the car, wires were ran of the drivers side.

    IMAG0177.jpg

Woo! Alot more time than I thought it was going to take.

    IMAG0182.jpg

Shot of the runs covered in conduit from the front

    IMAG0174.jpg

Under the car look at the wires coming in the cabin

    IMAG0176.jpg

What the runs looked like before the conduit clamps. Free conduit from work FTW!

    IMAG0175.jpg

Ya know, looks just a little tidier with the clamps on....

    IMAG0179.jpg

Used the spots that the running boards bolted into since they weren't being used

    IMAG0180.jpg

And now a few random shots of the equipment...

Amp size comparison to the Zune

    IMAG0146.jpg

    Yum

    IMAG0149.jpg

    XS goodness

    IMAG0154-1.jpg

Can't have a badass crimp without these
