So i want to finish my box, its made of mdf and i have a few questions. I want the box to just be painted black, nothing more complicated than that,
1) what primer should i use
2) what paint?
3) how much time between coats and how many coats of primer and paint
4) spray paint or no?
Thanks!

also when you dl youtube songs they are not that loud as from another site.

INB4L
anyways,
your not going to get a level 6,
i'd say its all preference, based on power and max box dimensions, along with the vehicle.
-
Well I'll give you an example of what is going into my wall, 6 sheets of birch plywood at around 45 bucks a sheet, 2 to 3 gallons of fiberglass resin at around 25 bucks a gallon, chop mat, not sure I have giant rolls of it, probably 15 10 foot 2x4's , tons of sand paper, bondo, paint, hmm probably around 400. I just got the design done so I haven't made a true materials list yet. I hope this helps and I'd look at a little more then 4k.
yea 400 isnt too bad, shit id spend 500 on making the box, and making it look "pretty"
edit when i say box, i mean everything to make the wall.
-
ooo ok ill check out there builds and learn more about it.
I understand how to make the box and all, its just make it pretty.
dont get me wrong i love the loudness of my DD, but 2, walled, it has to happen eventually, might as well start planning now. hahaaa

So ill be building the box in the car...obviously.
First step is bolt the floor to the frame of the car
then put in the walls then the roof, then the face plate.
Next or before face plate is to fiber glass the inside and silicon the edges in the box.
Then spray the foam around the edges of the box to seal off the wall.
My question is do i just spay the foam, and it will bond the box to the ceiling/side panels in my car?
After this i just add trim panels to make it look pretty.
Am i right here?

dc 3.5k shipped 48094

just rip them off youtube, easiest thing to do, hate when ppl ask how to DL songs off youtube...sad
-
sad, knukonceptz is 1.95+shipping per foot and everyone knows that, this is the saddest deal since the Louisiana purchase
-
alright, love being in Michigan...
-
a true 1500 wrms amp...for 180, near impossible if you ask me.
-
No, absolutely not.
Very little, if anything, is achieved by using two, three, or more layers of product. Heck even 100% coverage on a panel isn't necessary.
Installation of multiple layers is perpetuated by brands that sell poorly made (or even rebadged) material. They typically follow the "It's so cheap, you can use twice as much..." sort of tagline to sell their product. But test after test shows that is NOT the case.
Start with covering the panel with 25% and see where that gets ya, you'll be surprised!
oh well, i guess that only saves me money.
also whats the shipping cost like?
-
Well thanks guys, you pretty much covered everything.
Just to reiterate...
Prep the surface with denatured alcohol is fine. Mild soap and water works too. You can even use a heavier degreasers or acetone if it is really nasty.
But whatever you do, stay away from citrus based cleaners as they tend to leave an oily residue that may prevent proper adhesion.
Apply it to only the bare metal. And 13 sq. ft. is plenty for two doors.
is it not necessary to do double layers then in the trunk? like on the hatch part
-
right on, cant wait to get some installed.
-
fa sho, does adding sound deadener to both front doors and the back part of the trunk (not the wheel well area) yield noticeable gains in loudness to the ear?
-
is AT a good product? im trying to save money, but everyone is saying that DAMP PRO is just way better
-
you dont need 2-3 layers of damp pro on your hatch.
why not? its about to fly away? ill make a video and show you
-
you can leave the foam there as long as it can go on top of the SS. im assuming you are using damplifier? there is no special spray you need. you should clean the panel though because it will be full of dust. personally, ive always just wiped down the panel with towels and that seems to have been enough. its the laziest way you could clean a panel though.
yea im going to be using DAMP Pro, and obviously put it on the metal, then just put this foam thing back over it.
also is 13 sq ft enough to do 2 doors?
Also, how much would i need to do the back of my hatch 2-3 times? its not really that big of an area
-
i would put it on the metal, then put the layer of foam back over it, it has to be there for a reason..
-
So is there a special spray i need to use on the metal before applying?
Also, my doors have a thin layer of foam that covers the bare metal of the door frame, is it ok to keep it there? or should i remove it.
-
i did answer,
" dont wall your car" may not be the answer you wanted but none the less its holds as an answer.
-
^ man someone's tough,
Your logic is flawed, yes you asked a question, i answered it by saying dont wall it.
you need mad experience to do this, if you spend enough time doing builds you'll learn this on your own.
-
dont wall if you dont know what it is, youll be better off throwing a box in your trunk for now,
-
they arent, only 2500s are
