  1. A lot of people including myself have been having a lot of problems recently with DEI and the new HCCA/Orion amps.

Mine didn't last me more than 30 minutes!

I sent mine back to DEI (under warranty from Shane, Hccafan)...in MAY! They took forever to even let me know what was going on with it. Finally after asking Hccafan what was going on DEI gives him a simple response:

"Tell the customer that we have been waiting for the parts to come in to repair his amp.  I was like WTF :R it takes two months to get some parts in to repair an amp? :-X

Hell, I've known of people blowing their amps and getting it back to them within 3 days!

This was my first time sending some thing to DEI and more than likely my last. I thought DEI/Orion/HCCA was a great reliable company (products & customer service). If I would have heard negative things about them before then I wouldn't have bought from them. I owned two old Orion 2500ds and never had a problem with them. Sold them simply to get the newer line, D5000s, which I regret.

I am not the only one having problems with the new amps. I know of atleast 5 people (personally) that have blown their new HCCA amps and/or are having problems getting any updates or their amps returned to them from DEI.

Finally about 3 weeks DEI attempted to ship my amp. I was not home for none of the 3 attempts. I asked HCCAFAN if they could resend it and Tammy (person that works for DEI) got upset that I wasn't home (which I did too, trust me). So they said they would send it via regular UPS ground and I said ok. I even offered to pay for them to reship it. Shane told me it wasn't necessary but that I better be home next time.

I understand why they would get upset but at the same time I have been waiting since MAY for my amp. I should be the one thats very upset. Im cool with Shane, I've done lots of business with him before. However these passed few days I have made several attempts by both aim & e-mail and he doesn't answer neither. Same problem other people are having.

Anyways what im trying to tell you guys here is becareful if your going to send some thing to DEI right now. A lot of people are having problems with them. Also I would highly recommend that nobody buy a new HCCA amp. From what I read, the new [glow=red,2,300]HCCA amps are having a 95% return rate.[/glow] Just about every single one of them are defective because they have bad chips.

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens. Hopefully every thing turns out alright for everybody.

  2. no because the gain is still up. i just checked it and the knob that comes with the pa's control the bass boost. i just messed with everything and its just the bass boost that it controls. thought i almost broke the handle for my back seat.... close 1

Right even though the gain is still up a bass knob (not booster) can lower down the level of the bass without you having to lower your HU volume or go to your HU EQ.

Haven't you seen in some of Meade's videos he lowers down the bass (with the knob) and the music is still playing but the bass is almost completely cut?

  3. as far as i know, the knob only works on mine is the bass boost on the amp is turned up. i have the same amp, just one with a lil more power... :D

Did you try setting your gain with the bass knob?

When I had my a1300hct the only time the bass boost would make a big difference was on lower volume levels. When I had it maxing and turned up the bass knob I wouldn't really hear a big difference same way if I turned it down.

  4. like i was sayin though. if the knob is on max but the bass boost on the amp is turned all the way down, the knob does nothing.

There's a difference between a bass booster and bass knob...

Bass knobs which is what came with my friend's amp and what Meade has doesn't work with bass boost (as far as I know).

I've only used a bass booster when I first got into car audio and had an audiobahn a1300hct that brought a Bass booster.

Never again have I used it and never will.

My D5000 had the bass boost turned all the way down and the bass knob worked fine.

  5. I would really appreciate some help from people that use bass knobs **cough cough** [glow=red,2,300]STEVE[/glow] :D

But yeah my friend's pa a2400db came with a bass knob. He thinks it's cool how it works/looks and wants me to install it for him. The last and only time I used a bass knob was with the one that came with my HCCA D5000. The amp didn't even last me 30 minutes :'(

So yeah I just want you guys to make sure that what im doing is correct.

In order to set the gain on the amp using the bass knob I must do the following:

    1. With the system off, turn the knob on the bass knob to max.

    2. Turn the car on and play a test tone (50hz) @ 3/4 volume with the subwoofer level on the HU on 12/12 (max sub level).

    3. Play with the gain until I can get it at about 37.8 on the DMM (@ 1ohm= 1500rms)

    4. When the gain has been set correctly with the bass knob on max, im done.?.?.?...?

    5. Now I can play with the knob whenever I want as long as I have my system on, correct?
