I've got an idea. Would I be better off flipping the box upside down and facing it forward as a wall. Port on top. Then recut the top where the holes are which would now be the bottom piece and put subs below port. Then wall it in. That way I'd have plenty of room and not have to rebuild the box. and the wood is 2 layers of .75 all the way around. including port.

ok sounds good! Thanks a lot for the help. Glad I decided to ask about it.
-
ya it was lol. it sucked. but I'm pretty disappointed how it turned out. But hey it was my first big build so u live and learn I guess. I will try out your build. I think I will like it better. So your saying keep it subs up/ port back? and also everyone says 6.5 to 7 cubes/sub thats why i built it so big.
-
what did I fill in wrong? If you're saying I filled the port in wrong, I gave you the inner dimensions. The port is correct on the calculator

so are you guys telling me that torres calculator is way off? because everyone recommends it to me.

Ok, so i finally got my box finished and the subs are going in tomorrow. When I built the box, I guess I didn't realize how much of my airspace in the back it will take up. The subs are firing up and only have about 2" of clearance to the roof. So my question is, am I losing sound and spl by the box taking up most of the back? It seems like I'll be suffocating the sound since there isn't much space for the air to travel. I wish now that I would've just built a wall but it's too late to turn back now. Any help is appreciated!
box dimesions as follows:
34.5" tall
46" wide
26" deep
1.5" thick wood
port 31.5" wide x 17" deep x 7.5" tall
it's around 14 net cubes.
2 aq hdc3 18's off a crescendo 3500

trust me ^ that will be loudest. and that is net after all displacements.
-
box size around 6.5-7 cu. ft. tuned to 36 hz with 16-18 in of port area per cu ft.

technically not getting her anything. But I'm fixing, sanding, and refinishing an old dresser my grandma had (my mom's mom.) She passed away 3 months ago. Sentimental gives always mean the most.

How much airspace and mounting depth are you working with?

Although it doesn't have an ad card slot, I would recommend the clarion vx401. It is a great unit with iPod integration. That's what I run and I've never owned a better double din.

Right now just 2 arc ks1200.1s. Thinking about upgrading to an aq 3500
-
Have you checked fixmyspeaker.com?
-
Ya normally I wouldn't tune my boxes this high but from what I've read, the aq's like it. But I'm assuming nobody sees any problems with this box design?

Good afternoon everybody! I finally decided what subs I'm going to run in my tahoe and I'm just getting some input on the box I designed for my new subs. They will be here wednesday .It will be a subs up/port back and it's going in a 2003 tahoe. The one question I have is, is it ok just to do a regular L-port on the drivers side facing the hatch with the subs centered on top? Will this be my best build? Here are the box specs:

Just remembered this post. The problem was running the two different amps together. I called arc and they swapped the ks1200 for a brand new hand built ks 1000 bx! Two thumbs way up to brad at arc audio!!! They treat there customers right!

I didn't really want to drill holes in the floor, but at this point my audio needs are more important haha. but i will try to put some carpet in. do you have a z too jrchevy?
-
thanks a lot jrchevy! i will definitely try that. gotta figure out a way to get under the box first though. and I will measure the port orionstang but at the moment the car is locked up in the garage and I'm inside about to fall asleep lol. Thanks for all the help though everybody. I guess i never really realized how much of a difference carpet makes on the box. I also thought about using some of that spray foam that hardens when it dries (can't remember what it's called) and spraying it all under the box to hold it down and reduce noise. You guys think that would work?
-
and also, greg from re audio designed the box for me so I don't think that's the problem. Right now I'm assuming it's from the box jumping and not much room from the box to the hatch it bounces off of.
-
Honestly not sure about the port dimensions. My good friend owns a car audio shop and built the box. I just did the install. subs up and port up. but the box is sitting to where its angled towars the back hatch of the car. And thanks sheena! But I noticed it sounds better if I push down on the box.
-
I mean it sounds that easy but its really not. I cant really lift the box up more than an inch or two. It's built against the strut bar in the back of the car. I'm not sure if you're familiar with 350z's or not. I will definitely give that a try though.
-
thanks a lot everybody! Only problem with putting down false floor is I can't get the box out of my car.. It was built inside. But I will just use L brackets and bolt them into the floor of the car. And the subsonic is set to 25 hz.

Hey everybody, I've got a quick question. I've got 2 re sxx 12's running off 2 arc ks 1000.1's and the low bass sounds pretty terrible. I know the amp settings aren't the problems. the gain is MAYBE 1/8th of the way up. The bass boost is all the way off and crossover frequency is set to 80 hz. I am having a hard time finding the problem here. The box is right at 4 cu ft. and tuned to 30 hz. The setup is in the hatch of my 350z. Also when the bass hits, the box comes completely off the floor. I think this may be half the problem. Also, any ideas how to hold my box down without drilling holes in the floor? there is no carpet so velcro won't work, thanks!
Is this box causing me to lose sound by being too big?

the top actually isnt attached yet. It's sitting in my living room with the subs mounted to it. I was going to put it in tomorrow. So literally all I'd have to do is re cut that piece and mount the subs under the port
