  1. so y is the collasus basically same price as brutus? and somehow its not doesing anything to my stock elc in truck

It's actually a little cheaper if you look power vs cost. The brz1700 is $.1588 per watt and the Collossus is $.1562 per watt.

Power vs Cost indeed. Good point man :good:

If you go with the colossus, I'd recommend upgrading the alt for sure, and probably 2 batteries in the back.

Overall, I'll be pushing about 4400w, including my mids and such. What batts would you recommend?

  3. Simple ... get you a external active crossover, or a bad ass headunit with High pass, band pass, low pass, and subwoofer pass selection capabilities ...

and BTW, who told you that "overlapping" frequiencies was a bad thing ??

No one told me that. I just thought it was. My current build used to be really peaky around 100hz until I put an 80hz high pass on my components and an 80hz low pass on my subs, so that's one reason. I can admit that I'm probably mistaken though.

  4. How do you set one up? I mean, I'm trying to do a fully active crossover setup with the tweeters running off a separate amp. Is there any way of keeping each set of speakers from "overlapping" each other? Basically limiting them only to certain frequencies. Like 20-80hz for subs, 80-200hz for midbass, 200-~2000hz for mids, and then ~2000hz or up for tweets? I've always been curious about this.

  5. try sonic electronics also. got my brz1700.1d from them with 3 year warranty. its killing my fully loaded fi bl 18 right now. its not tuned but still does a damn good job

That's where I found them for the cheapest. They have the Colossus for $500. Cheaper than buying two of the brz1700.1d.

  6. They are good for the price, and they do rated.

That's my main concern. I'd sure as hell hate to think I'm getting 3200w and find out I'm actually getting like, 2800w or something.

I'm trying not to go too far past the $2000 mark on speakers and amps. So... Part-Express, here I come.

  7. Are they good for a nice beginner big build? As far as amps I've seen used on here, they seem like the most bang for your buck as far as power vs wattage. I want to run 4 800w rms subs, and I'd like to simplify it down to one amp instead of having to gain match and all that great stuff. The Colossus actually has enough power to run them, and it doesn't break the bank too bad. Any input? I'm just trying to get a good idea on what I'm looking at for a rebuild.

  8. If you're really tight on budget as far as power is concerned, I recommend the APSM series. As much as everyone hates Audiopipe, I'm running two 1500's in my truck (conservatively 'till I get electrical straightened out), was running one at 0.5 ohms for a while with little issues (did overheat on a really hot day but you have to really beat on it), but for the price they're great 'till you can afford Sundown, Skar, RF, etc.

I'm gonna slowly buy the equipment over the next year or so. SLOWLY. I wanna get my doors and dash done first since I want a color change and I only really need to worry about the front half of my interior with a wall.

  9. I don't see you fitting 8 15s in a malibu especially in a 4th order. I assume you are doing a wall with a build as big as you say. And have you ever built a wall? if not I would not suggest you trying to make a 4th order as your first wall build.

you cant go wrong with sa15s or dc lvl 3s but I would say with DC changing up their lines the lvl 2 will be closer to the sa line from sundown

After messing around with skecthup, I felt like a total noob for saying that. All I basically know is the box ratio and what he tuning range for the ported side is.

Don't get me wrong, 4 15s will fit on a baffle that's 32x40" if you offset them, but they'd only be getting 1.5cuft a piece on the sealed side and the ported side would only be 15cuft still. That's about as far as I got with attempting to design.

Here is what the two sealed sides would look like on the design I was going for. 1" wood (probably birch ply), 10x40x32"

    sealedbox.png

Yep. Wall is what I'm going for. I'm working on my designing skills, but I haven't gotten too far into it yet. That's why I would honestly love to try a 4th order, but I'd probably need help designing and building. LOTS.

Has anyone had any experience with the GCon subs? I've seen vids of ZCons before, just not the GCons.

  10. Idk. It'll be about a year before I get a big build really going, so I've got time to figure it out.

Did the math. I actually have room for 8 15s in a fourth order. I'm trying to do something on sketchup real quick.

Edit- I mean I MIGHT. If 1.5cuft per sub in the sealed side and 15cuft is enough for the ported side. I could polyfill if I had to. I'm working with a Malibu like Scottichbears if that helps. 98, four door coupe.

  11. I really don't want any 'IB4L" posts, because I'm not meaning to post a vs thread. But if you could only go $250 a piece on subs, what would you get? I don't want to find one thing and get my mind stuck on it, because I was stuck on RF and Soundstream before I got here and saw things that are so much better for the price. I really don't wanna go much higher than $250, but if I have to I will. It'll just take longer on the build.

I'm really considering a 4th order. I have some plans for one. Basically, it'll be three independant boxes that join together with t-nuts (lots), and the subs will use the sides of the ported part as the baffle. I can get 6.88cuft before displacement on the two sealed boxes, and 15cuft before displacement for the ported side. I want to go with 4 15s, two in each sealed box, somewhere around 750-1000wrms.

Here's a few that have caught my eye:

    GCons

    DC Lvl 3s

    Sundown

    Dayton Audio Titanic MKIII

Still have no clue on an amp. Hifonics got my attention for the wattage vs price, but what's some others?

  12. It seems like the norm for a four way set up is sub, midbass, mid, and then highs (tweets). If you already have coax speakers with tweeters on them I would just find a way to add midbass speakers.

^This as a quick inexpensive solution but if you would like to do it right then adding a component set (separate tweeter and mid) and a mid bass would be a better route. You would need an electronic crossover or an amp that is active capable to achieve your goal in dialing in all the right frequencies.

I did seem to forget to mention that... But yeah. Active crossovers would pretty much a must.

  13. I never fully introduced myself on here. I just kinda started posting. Lol.

I'm Lane. I'm 19, and I recently got really into car audio. I found this forum through Steve's youtube vids.

If you happen to find a herokight or herokight93 anywhere, it's probably me.

By the way, in case it hasn't been stated enough, DAMN YOU HAVE SOME SKILLS, STEVE.

Edit. Because I missed a few things.

  14. So you are going to do a wall then? I know noiseycricket (Anthony) has 4 15" in a bandpass in his malibu same as ours so it certainly is possible. Why not just go ported? It would save you a ton of room and you could build it outside the car.

Eh. Considered it. I actually thought about a bass tunnel. I might just put two in at first and then do the wall.

I mean, I'll eventually have a family and stuff, but lets be honest. I've only filled my entire car once, and my girl has her own car now so I never have to pick her and her sister up from school anymore. So my back seat never gets used.

4 15" in a trunk has that impossible feeling to it. Two of them would be pretty crazy. No need to jump into a wall till you're ready. Big commitment lol

I've done the measuring, and it's definitely possible to fit two 15s where my two 12s are now, with more than enough room for a port. That's what I'll probably do first.

I'm normally all about it just sounding good and equal instead of having overwhelming bass, but I've gotta build atleast one loud car. JUST ONE.

Until I get totally addicted and keep putting loud ass builds in all my cars. :D

Another thing I've gotta consider is that it'll be in my daily driver, and I currently live on a dirt road. So... Can you say new suspension?
