  1. Well guys, I can't get a mortgage. Atleast not right now. My banks qualifications are being employed part-time for 2 years or being employed full-time. They;d have to have 30 days worth of full-time pay checks and because I work in fast food my employer would have to verify that I'll be full-time for an extended period of time. So I might be able to get a place by the end of summer. My dad's trying everything he can to keep this place. He just sold his truck to get everything out of pawn and have money. He's trying to buy a small pickup or a car for 3k or less from an individual. He also loses his state unemployment benefits this week. This is the last check he'll get because the state unemployment rate fell below the national minimum for state benefits to be in place. What I'm wondering is where everyone's getting all these damn jobs. On the bright side, the landscaping company he worked for back in December will take him back, but they already hired a new guy. He said he's not sure how this new guy will work out, but if he doesn't my dad is the first person he'll call. So there's a bit of good news.

  2. Figured I'd finish the little bit I started on my car today before I had to take a shower and get all dressed up, too. My girlfriend is still In high school, and it's prom night.

It sounds kinda awkward being in college and dating a junior in high school, but we've been together since I was a junior and she was a freshman.

Got everything hooked back up. It sounds SOOO much better being sealed off. Like I said and ya'll reinforced, car audio isn't my biggest priority right now. I just do little things here and there when I get some extra pocket change. The only other thing I'm gonna do soon is upgrade my wiring kit to a RF 4awg because I foolishly bought an 8awg and tried to run almost 700w off of it. My amp goes into protect sometimes, and I don't wanna burn it up so... That'll be after my dad gets his taxes back. And he's supposed to help me with a down payment for a house because he borrowed a lot of money from me.

Trying to keep all my bases covered. I'll have a down payment, the payments will be less than 28% of my income since I'm working full time during summer, and I have great credit. Main problem is that I haven't been employed for two years, but hopefully I can get a first time buyer loan like the lady at the bank said. I'll be talking to one of their mortgage experts Monday to go through my options.

I'll keep you guys updated as everything goes down.

It's a long ass story as to how things have gotten like this and how life has been punching me in the dick. But needless to say, I've grown quite tired of it, and I don't really think it's so wrong to want a better life.

  3. I've heard before that Cali, Florida and a few other places where you would think unemployment rates aren't that high are surprisingly high. There are some cheap houses in Ohio. Ive seen quite a few in certain neighborhoods that are under 20k. I'm not so sure about the 80 -100$ payments though.

Did the math myself and looked into what the payments would be on some lender sites.

    $20,000/(12x30) = $20,000/360 = $55.55

Then take into account things like insurance and it comes out to around $100 or so.

  4. There are some cheap houses in Georgia. Really cheap. I found one that was perfect. One story, 1120sqft, 2.75 acres, and a huge workshop for 19k. But by the time I was going to contact the realitor it was under contract. The realitor that showed us the tri-stroy that the previous owners looted said they've been buying some foreclosures for $25. However, most of the houses I've been looking at are worth $100,000. They just can't get them sold for that much. I'm trying to stay under 20k, but if I can get a good deal on a mortgage and find one for a little more it's no biggie. The payments on a 20k house are about $80-100 a month. any of you who were wondering why I didn't just rent a home or apartment, I think you could see why not now. Much cheaper every month this way. And once I graduate and get my career going I could move into something nicer and rent it out. I'm planning ahead, so that I don't end up with my back against the wall.

  5. I thought about putting some cardboard or small scraps of mdf in when I started. I got all but one little section foamed up. It's like, 6x8". I'm just leaving the masking tape there. No one else ever rides with me, and if it works, it works. Like I said, loud ain't always pretty. They seemed louder pointed forward, but it also kinda seemed like all the sound was disappearing in my trunk, and I had alot less flex which started making me wonder about sealing them in, even if it was a temporary fix.

  6. I'm gonna have a huge ass build one day. Just gotta get money. It's kinda my last priority right now though. We're losing our house and I'm going Monday to see if I can get a first time buyer loan from my bank. The requirements aren't as high as normal. Main problem being that I haven't been employed for 2 years yet. If I can get it, I'll officially be a home owner, and it'll be backwards because my dad will be living with me. Just gotta find one for under 20k. Not hard in this area, there's plenty for under that. What's hard is finding one that wasn't trashed by the previous owners. Last one we went to was missing the furnace, the ac unit, alot of wiring, and all the brass plumbing you can get to, including the brass faucets. Previous owners stole it.

I've been doing little things here and there on my 'Bu, but I keep forgetting to take pictures. Latest being sealing my subs into my cab. I just masked off the opening of my trunk, put tape from the box to the edge of the opening, and starting foaming it up. Too broke for fiberglass, almost too broke for great stuff. It ain't gonna look so great, but you know what they say. Loud ain't always pretty.

I'd appreciate any advice guys. Hell, I'm only 19 and life's really punched me in the dick lately, so I could use a bit of it.

  7. Taking my dad to a concert tomorrow.

I know I say a lot about money problems, which we do have, but I had the money awhile back. I had quite a good chunk put back after I got the money for my totalled Camry and what was left over from my student loan. I knew my dad would love to go to it, so I got floor seats off of some ticket site because Ticketmaster was already up to the back rows. Wish I could've caught the presale and saved some money, but whatever. This'll be my birthday present to myself for this year and his fathers day present.

Hell, he's wanted to see this band since the first record came out in '78.

Who are we going to see?

    MUTHAFUKIN VAN HALEN BIATCH!

  8. Old ass thread, but I wish I had joined this forum a long ass time ago now.

Dude, work the shit out of it now, and you'd be the coolest grandpa ever when we're all old as dirt.

Bag it and all that and ride through walmart. Gotta get something down on a bottom shelf? Flip a switch and drop it. Something a little too high? Lift it up.

    THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES!

  9. My dad has been out of work for almost 2 years now. He didn't go to college or anything, but he does skilled labor. He has alot of experience in landscaping and line work. He worked for AT&T as a lineman, so it's not like he doesn't know what he's doing in that respect. He knows all about buried utility wires and whatnot. He also does some of the best lawn work I've seen. Hell, if anyone needs any lawn work, he'd probably be able to help you out. You could hit me up with what you want done and I could talk to him about a price.

  10. Since Soundstream is coming out with new picasso series amp, online car stereo has the old ones on clearance.

You looking for something like this?

    http://www.onlinecar...eam_PX4760.aspx

I would personally stay away from the Picasso series if you can, not the best of the Soundstream and it lacks quality. The few I have installed and seen used heat up too hot to touch. Never go into protect but shouldn't get that hot anyway, I also noticed it distorted quickly on the DD-1 (using the SQ track).

Aw man. One of my friends has already ordered two of the old Picasso 2000w monoblocks for his build. That's one of my favorite things about being in a forum like this one, you learn a little bit before it's too late. I was gonna go with that one and the same monoblock that my friend got.

  11. What ever works with what you have to work with ...

No hating from me Sir ...

Haha. I didn't exactly mean it literally. It's just an expression to me. Although, I'm sure some kid somewhere is sitting behind his keyboard laughing at me.

Meh. Doesn't affect me. Creativity comes in handy though.

Good god, the static from my laptop speakers was getting so aggrivating. Premium sound my ass. I guess this is what I get for being an audiphile. Lol.

  12. I apologize to Mr. Meade or anyone else in advance if this wasn't quite the place to put this, but it looks like junk so I figured it belonged in the junk drawer.

Ever get bored and just decide to do something really stupid?

Story of my life so far.

I was using these speakers with my laptop plugged into the stereo you see in the background when they decided to crap out. Probably because they kinda sucked anyway, and I played some Skrillex with a massive bass drop, which they didn't take so well.

    Photo1310.jpg

What do you do when the sound from your laptop is crap and you have extra speakers around?

    This.

    Photo1311.jpg

Two 6.5 Sony Xplods from my old car in the cardbox my new 6x9s came in. Too broke for mdf right now. I threw my back out and was kinda looking foor something to do anyway, since I've been sitting around taking it easy for days.

Sealed it up nice with some left over caulk, and duct taped to make sure. They "baffle" wasn't so secure and it flexed alot, so I added extra cardboard here and there and it's doesn't really flex anymore.

Even measured it, did the math, and ported it to 32hz with a paper towel roll.

    Photo1312.jpg

And I should probably stop doing this, or I'll be stuck with laptop speakers again.

    Boredom at it's finest.

  13. on a serious note tho, i never liked the idea of a square sub cuz it seems like the corners of the surround would be stiffer than the rest of it and i dont know for sure but it would seem that would cause non-linear movement of the cone

I always wondered about that. It seems like a great concept, but not very realistic.

Like using x-ray glasses to look through women's clothing. Great idea, but not a very realistic way of making it happen.

  14. TVB141.jpg

    need triangle woofers!

i dont know if i want to buy that and smash it or buy it and install it just to say i did lol

    This...

Idk what it is about square woofers, but they bother me. Just the look of them make me uncomfortable. Like, they don't even look like they move naturally. It's like a wall vibrating at your face. Now round subs, those are sexy.

  15. I know this has been disputed over and over again, and I could probably find something on it if I dug through the forum enough, but which is better? Is it preference? Does one out perform the other? Or is it different from install to install like alot of other things in car audio?

  16. Honestly man, I might be willing to send you some 4gauge Knu for dirt cheap. Just depends if I figure out this whole shipping thing :l

There's two car audio shops right down the road from my house, pretty much literally. I think I'm gonna stop by there after school one day next week and see what they'd charge for some wire. Problem is, one of them is one of those places that'll wanna do it for me and charge me for it. I hate going in there. Some of those guys are pretty cool and just like to talk about stuff, show you what you could do, give you ideas and whatnot. The rest of them always seem like they're trying to pressure you into buying something and letting them do an install for you. Don't get me wrong, I've seen them do some pretty damn sweet installs, but $125 and up for a 5 channel amp seems a little steep to me.

idk what the shops are like around you man, but where im from, you can never find cheaper wire than knukoncepts or ebay. like they have to make a profit somehow and they will charge you up the ass for wiring. if you can do it yourself, buy the wire online at one of the 2 sites posted. personally im a knu fan. but dont get scammed by paying more for crappy wire from a shop. most shops that is. its not always the case, but be careful, hopefully you lknow what true 4 ga should look like.

The one I was referring to kinda does some scamming. Never been in the other. I'll probably get it off the internet. I just like to shop around anyway.
