  1. Now its got me wondering why it had so much more sound pressure. Box design maybe?

i think it's just because it's completely sealed up like that, it's kinda like being inside a very large 4th order box i think is the correct term? or 6th order or somethin... a ported box inside a sealed box and ur in the sealed area feelin the bass of 6 15" subs..think of it that way

  2. I have a '03 malibu that I bought 6 or 7 months ago, it's been running great at 150k miles I did an oil change and coolant flush etc for it, however recently the transmission has slipped a couple times but only when I'm revving really high as in around 4-5k rpm's (normal operating rpm's stay from 1-3k even when accelerating), how big of a problem is this and how much should I be worried? I've had quotes of $2-3k to have the tranny replaced but I could probably replace it myself

-I talked with a person about it and he said there's a device that a tranny shop can put in there to help reduce the problem and slow down the wear and tear

  3. i'd do 36" width and 15" height.

you have to remember to take into account the trunk opening itself.

build a couple boxes out of cut cardboard to see if itll fit in there.

I build a large dual 2.1 cu.ft. 12" sub box and I couldn't quite fit it through the trunk opening, so I took the top of the back seats off and slid it in through the front, maybe u could do the same?

-nvm I didn't look closely enough at ur measurements my bad~

pick your poison, two routers under a $100 each, one is even a plunge router. Go get a jasper jig for about 60 and your'e set to cut any damn hole you want. You can get a set of bit tat will do about anything you need for about 30 to 40 bucks. Best investment you'll make once.

    here are some bits.

By the way, all this stuff is available at manards for about the same price.

    edit.

Also i know all this adds up to 180 or so, but would you rater pay some guy at a shop, or have tha satisfaction of doing it yourself?

everything this brilliant man as said~ +1.

Also after you buy it the first time, you keep it for a life time for whatever you might find a use for. And Manards is a wonderful place to shop for tools as well, they carry the real shit not shitty walmart brand tools.

  5. I think he's just asking the acoustics of the vehicle.. a buddy of mine has a malibu that i believe is an 04 or 05, they're virtually identical to the impala's, his acoustics aren't too bad and it's well sealed so yes it gets loud to the ear, but idk about spl numbers I've never been to a competition. I have an 03 malibu which the interior basically cancels out my midbass (85-120hz) a bit too much compared to his malibu, but it is still sealed well and does get the low notes loud..

so... loud: to the ear yes, spl I'm not sure; sq 50~50. imo.

edit: with enough cash and the know-how you can build yourself a nice system in any vehicle like these guys were discussing up there^

  6. Same thing happend to my RE Sxx the other day to some Tech n9ne haha go figure. strange music FTMFW. sending it in tomorrow for warranty. Might sell it and go to fi or sundown or AQ, good woofer just idk shouldn't be getting as hot as it was off my brz 1200.1

    :)

OP check coil resistance, report abnormalities.

dmm the sub and if it reads the right ohms, it is not "Bad".

not to thread jack , but say you have a sub and you can see the voice coil is black as nite, but it reads good on the ohms , should a guy be leery of said sub ?

the black color is just from a chemical reaction that takes place when electricity passes through the coil i think.. it's a residue from the oxygen mixing with the chemicals in the voice coil when they get heated.. as long as the voice coil seems in tact other than the color, I think it's fine (I'm not the most educated person on the subject, perhaps you could open a thread to get a more professional answer...)
