  1. The box I have is 15x32x20, 2 separate chambers, each w/ a pvc port 3" x 8 1/2", tuned @ 30hz

    -2.1 cu. ft. per chamber~

It's peaking out really low.. I'd say around 34hz, it drowns out the mid-bass almost completely.

I'm relatively new to box designing, and I don't really know much about how a design affects the sound quality... I tuned it to 30hz to hit the lows really nicely ( which it does ), but I'm missing the midbass, should I just cut the pvc shorter to raise the tuning or will that not really make much of a difference? Is there possible to little of port area?

    Subs- 2 kenwood 12"s, 4ohm @ 400wrms, 2 cu. ft. recommended per chamber, running on a kenwood 1800w d-mono amp. ( 900w rms )

I'm running the subs parallel on 2 ohm @ 450wrms a piece (not benched so I don't know the exact wattage)

  2. id change my name if ii coul fosgate subs just nvr rscrewed me over so its what I was a fan of at the time.

i really like fosgate amps but not their subs, so i don't really disagree with you there. i've heard some AA mayhems and they sounded really great, you could get a pair of AA Arsenals which aren't as big but since the mayhems sounded so good, I wouldn't think arsenals would be too bad. A pair of 12's go for about $360 I believe. You could youtube em to see a few vids if ur interested, and I know a guy on this forum that is an authorized seller

  3. just go ahead and do it, aslong as you know which wire is which.. label them.. 18 gauge is good your headunit puts out maybe 15rms on each channel im guessing so thats fine

He never said what HU he had, let alone if he even needed the speaker outputs. The power wires are the important ones

i will try to match up the gauge of wire with the power wire i think it should be fine though, i might just go ahead and get the colored insulation like you said from radioshak just to make it easier to tell them apart, thanks though man.

  4. Looking at putting 2 15" Rockford p3's in my car, my trunk space is limited, I'm thinking about going with this simple design with some cheap pvc ports to the side, it should sound fine I would think since the trunk is a pretty sealed enclosure itself, but I was thinking of having the subs facing upward w/ ports facing the rear, any input would be helpful, any ideas? Thanks

My trunk space: H-17", W-37", D~40" [or] H-14", W-46", D~40" (lower height would squeeze under the trunk levers or w/e they are called...)

    Here's a possible design:

    Box: H-17", W-36", D-22" (tuned @ 28hz w/ port length of 4"x14")

  5. How's the amp running so far? I'm looking at getting a 1200d hifonics brutus to push 2 fosgate p3 15's, simply because it can run 1 ohm @ 1200w. I haven't really heard any negatives on these amps I just tried to stay away because they seemed a little to cheap

  6. Honestly ignore what the manufacturer says that the frequency response is. Just tune to your personal preference. That said I probably wouldn't tune any lower than 30Hz and have a subsonic filter set right at that point. Pioneers don't have much xmax and you don't want to unload the subs trying to play lows.

that makes sense, thanks, i have another small question, is porting with pvc pipe a bad idea? will it make some port noise or can I fix that by sanding the ends, thanks again

  7. Hi, I recently purchased and installed my first sub system:

    Kenwood 9105D Mono-Amp @ 1800w max / 900 rms(2ohm)

    Dual Kenwood 12" w3013ps subs (bridged @ 2 ohms, 450rms per sub(400rms-1200w peak)) w/ 34-300 freq. response, recommended ported enclosure @ 2 cft tuned to 34hz

4 Gage power wires, 12 gage speaker wire, gold plated terminals etc

Got most of it on sale, cost about $350 for everything from sonic electronix and crutchfield.

The subs are in a Sound Ordnance dual 12 inch ported enclosure @ 1.63 cft per chamber, tuned at 33hz

The subs sound too high pitched of bass, it's LOUD and shakes most of the car, it just doesn't sound quite right, I believe it has to do with the enclosure size and bad box tuning but I wanted to make sure, that's why I'm asking here.

So my question is this, is the bass problem the size of the box, the tuning, or the high freq. response of the subs? or a mix of some of these.

Right now the subs don't play below 40hz very well which I'm sure is because of the tuning and size of the box. I'm more than willing to build a box for these but I'm not sure if it's worth it if the subs still wont touch anything below 34hz, I see a lot of people here with boxes tuned to 30hz or less and I'm wondering if I should tune that low even though my response is only 34hz. Should I just buy new subs? Most of my music doesn't hit lower than 34hz but still, I want some ground pouding bass every once in a while, can't really afford anything much bigger right now with my financial situation.

Any info would be helpful I'm just looking to soak up some data since I'm a beginner, a lot of the topics here are very helpful. Thanks!
