Hello all,
I am currently in the process of revamping my system. I attempted to do it last summer when i knew nothing about car audio, and it did sound quite decent. I now realize that there is alot more potential. As of now, there are JBL Grand Touring 5x7's up front and in the rear. In the trunk is a Pioneer 12" sub. The powerplant behind the whole deal is a 1200w Crunch amp, which gets the job done quite well.
My problem with the system is the bass coming from the speakers. The only way i can get the speakers to sound well at high volumes is setting the HPF to the lowest setting, which on the amp is 60 hz. If i set the crossover to Full, the speakers sound good until about half volume. After that it is complete garbage. The "bottoming out" just kill the sound if you know what i mean. And for any of you who have the thought in their head, I have in fact set my gains properly with my trusty oscilloscope.
I know speakers are capable of reproducing crisp and clear mids, because my friend has a 2011 Lancer with the oem RF system. When a song with good mids is played, your legs get a massage I believe he has 6.5 Punch components up front, and 6.5 coaxials in the rear. Its all stock, but Rockford Fosgate made the speakers.
Now i can get to my question after describing my situation. My car is a '99 Sable, and it has the abnormal 5x7 speaker size. I plan to get some 5x7/6x8 to 6.5 adapters so i can throw a decent set of components up front.
I know nothing about manufacturers and their reputation in terms of sound reproduction. Based on what some of you have experienced, what would your recommendation be for me? I think JBL doesn't have good bass reproduction.
Thanks in advance.
