  1. Not my video, but it is my truck. 1 xl 18 m1 4th order bandpass.
  2. cool. Let me get busy on the box too. At least I can be doing something until I can order the recone from you Friday. I'm off work until Monday so I'm spending today designing, tomorrow building, and Friday spending. Lol
  3. and how many sq in of port am I shooting for?
  4. and when you say before displacement, I'm sure you mean before speaker displacement, not port as well, right? I would assume 5.5 cubes net plus port, minus speaker displacement?
  5. Lmao. I suppose I should take the advice from the one who would know then. What would you sell a full rebuild for? D1 ohm, 5 layer, nothing else special?
  6. That's pretty much what I figured. I was more or less curious if there were options for stiff spiders and things of that nature. I do set my gains with an o-scope so it will be clean power. Whether it's a full 3k or not, I would say since my amp is an AP3k, it will probably be a little less. I obviously won't be playing full tilt 24/7, but I do compete. My main concerns are for burping and demos. In all truth, this is actually my first 18" speaker and I've been doing this since 04'. So I'm in the process of learning the parameters of them to try and build a box that will optimize the output with what I have. I figured since I'm at the step of reconing I would explore all options of power handling, which would leave me with what airspace I can SAFELY run this speaker on, with the power I have. I understand and agree with you 100% on the 3" coil comment. A 3" coil will only handle so much power...clean or distorted. I suppose I should handle the problem @ hand first, which is needing a recone. Then I guess it's back to searching through these forums to see what others are having success with for a box. I just don't want anyone offering to design me one for money. I know a guy's gotta eat but I can do all that by my self if I know what airspace to use and what port tuning these like. But the recone is for sure step 1. I'll need a dual 1 ohm with a stiffer spider or something of that nature I suppose...
  7. Someone beat on it pretty good and tore the tinsel lead from the spider on the voicecoil that's still working. Definately time for a rebuild.
  8. Thanks to CJ18 it has been identified as an 18" XL m1. Bets part is, I scored it for $80! Now back to the main questions: What are my options for recones? Obviously DC and PSI, but anyone else doing custom work around here? I was hoping to up the power handling on the dual 1 ohm because I'm throwing this on a 3k daily.
  9. I'll have to throw one up when I get home. Not sure how to do it from my phone and I'm still stuck @ work for 2 more hours.
  10. So I bought this woofer second hand needing a recone. One Voice coil is not responding. My only problem is, dude I got it from didnt know what series woofer it is. It's an M1 for sure, but I don't know of a way to tell the difference between the models (lvl 2, 3, 4, xl) so that I can order a recone. So I guess my real question is this: Can I just oreder a recone for a XL sub and it work in the lesser models? or How do I figure out the actualy model speaker I have?
  11. I have a competition next weekend (Nov. 4, 2012) and I cannot seem to figure my box correctly. I'm in the truck class, 0-1501 watts, stock electrical, 1 extra battery allowed. I'm Running a single 12" XL m1, PSI carbon fiber recone, dual 1.4ohm sub dropped to .7 ohms. The amp is a Planet Audio P1250d (when they were still made in the US). I'm putting right at 14.4 volts to the amp. Even at idle, It NEVER drops below 12.6 volts. Should be putting around 1200 real watts to the speaker. Either way, I've built too many boxes to continue just trying everyone's designs. Any help here for a basic design. I know these speakers like smaller boxes, but I'm sure someone here has more experience with them than I do. Thanks in advance guys!
  12. I've got an m1 12" xl, fresh PSI recone with direct leads, and I can't get the port right to save my life. I've been playing with torres and no luck. My max dimensions are 22"w x 14" top - 21" Bottom x 22" H. Wedge style, sub on slant, port up. Almost like a console. Going behind the drivers seat, on the storage rack with the seat up in my Dodge quad cab. Any help would be awesome. Unfortunately, box building is a P.I.T.A. for me. My apartment complex sent me a lovely letter last time for running my rip saw so now I gotta take a power inverter to an empty lot and start cutting off my tailgate. So some experience with a design would be ideal cause the summer hear in Texas is brutal... Thanks in advance for Dallas, Tx
