  1. i currently run group 31 batteries, factory is group 26. i have about 3.5KW of stereo but my primary concern is the starting of my vehicle. im trying to find a battery for 200.00 or less as i need 2 of them. my truck takes about 280A for 15-35 seconds before i crank the starter and the starter takes 550-850A (depending on temps) for 5-15 seconds (depending on temp and time left sitting) to turn over. i see your batteries on the lower end have 550ca so id think there cca would be 300 or so and that is no where near enough.

there are times that this cranking can be longer, as high as 45 seconds to start.

temps around here are -25/-35F most winters

can anyone give me any input?

  2. a friend has a ZX2500.1 that he is no longer using and it cuts out from time to time on him. he pushed it very hard on a shit electric system. he offered it to me for 30 bucks and im thinking of hooking it to a spare 1KW computer power supply i have and using it to power my 8OHM computer sub. any thoughts? has anyone done this before?

  3. its been run with dual 12" L7's wired to 2Ohm (i think it was 2, it was purchased direct from kicker and they wired it for that amp) and a single L7 12 at 4Ohm. also ran 2 15" L7's at 2ohm. both sets of subs ended up blowing, the 12's seized and smoked while the 15's just got a little rattle at low volume. i am installing a 18" fi BL next week upon delivery

  4. it is wired to the battery for power and to the frame rail of the truck. all grounds and power are 0 or 00 gauge wire. power is supplied by 3 batteries. even out of hte truck and inside tho, running on a dedicated AC to DC inverter it still gets very hot

  5. I have a ZX1500.1 kicker that gets very hot. ive had it since 2007 and just the other day it shut off and stopped powering a sub due to what i presume was a heating issue as it started to work fine after a cool down. when i touch the top of the amp it is so hot it burns my hand. is this normal? can i add a fan to this so its not just passively cooled? has anyone had this issue?

the amp sits under a seat and its currently summer and around 105F outside so there is only so much cooling it can do

  6. I am looking at buying a FI sub tomorrow and am looking between fibl or fiq. i see the Xmax of the fiq is more than the BL so that means the Q has more travel space and should be able to push more air and thus be louder and more oriented to SPL applications. this goes against what the website states and what others on forums have stated. where am i going wrong in my conclusions?

    thanks.

  7. i live in MN, usa. im still leaning towards the BL but we shall see how things go. also this is a bit of an unplanned buy since i had 2 perfectly good kickers untill they were stolen so, 400 is actually twice what i have to spend. seems my suspension upgrade will take a further push back. as for the brand, i understand there are great brands that just spend less in advertising and thus are heard of less but doing this search into subs has thrown so many new brands at me that i am totally lost. up untill a week ago i knew of kickers as the best cheap sub, JL as the king, sony as the laughing stock, alpine as the mid range, MTX were good and make shit subs outside of there highest end, and then rockford that are good for the price. i knew nothing outside of this...

  8. ok, who can help me build a box for a single fiBL tuned for maximum frequency response? so long as i get more frequency response than kickers ill be happy. i dont think im willing to let go of all the SBL yet so the Q is out for me. it is going in the back seat of my quad cab 99 dodge ram and i would like to keep a bit of space open for some small tools. i intend to bring this forum to the sub box builder and go over it with him. im confident this guy can get a good box made given the right information.

  9. i am meeting tomorrow with a pro installer that i worked with at circuit city many years ago. we are going to go over box and sub specs. no one i have talked to has ever heard of FI subs, are these subs really good or are they all hype and just suped up sony explodes? i am very leery of all these brands that no one seems to have heard of. it was recommended to me that MTX 9000's would work very well, how do they compare with the FI's?

  10. the more i read into it the more i think i want to port a fi BL. my kickers were not in a crazy large box, it was vented inbetween the subs and i would say maybe 3 or 4 cubic ft of space in each side. i bought them off a competition guy on craigs list but they were wired all wrong and the box looked to be some ebay prefab. if i got a single BL i could always buy a second later and either upgrade my amp to a 2500.1, i think im going to go 18" just to try and push some more volume out of er. im reading up on all the tech specs of the subs now to try and understand what does what.

  11. i find myself worried that a fiQ in a sealed box wont be loud enough... i wish i could hear one of them in person before i buy. i was reading that a vented box tuned to about 33Hz would give the best of both worlds, lots of volume and still a mostly clean frequency band. perhaps a fiBL in a vented box at 33hz would be my best choice? arg im at such a loss when reading about these subs ive never heard of :(...

if i did go sealed with a Q, its rated at 6-8 cubic feet. what are the advantages and disadvantages of going with a 6ft box over a 8ft and vice versa? i can easily fit a 8 ft back there and it would be much smaller than the kicker box i had.

i just really, really do not want ot loose any volume over my dual 15 kickers :/ maybe ill craigs list and see if i can find someone with a fi audio to listen to around my area in st. paul

  12. i understand the 600W is conservative but if im looking to run a single sub then even at double the power id be over powering them so id need at least 2. now perhaps i do go with 2 subs, im not sure yet. i think i would want to start with a single sub and down the road if i want more than add a second.

i do want power but i also want to change to clarity, something i haven't done since 2004 when i had a CVX from kicker. it comes down to this, will a fiBL be better clarity and frequency response than a kicker 12 or 15 l7? if so then ill go with that, if not then ill go with a Q.

i also read that the Q is able to go into a sealed box so that should add lots of clarity with tighter bass, no?
